Clay Aiken 1997 "This is the Moment" Uncut

  • this is from 1997's Pieces of Gold show in Raleigh, NC. As far as I can tell, this is the only uncut version of the song on the internet. I was in this show and knew Clay at the YMCA where he worked. We were almost in Oklahoma together locally. He was called back for Will Parker, but, crazy enough, didn't get it, so he was given a chorus part. He turned that down.
    He was also named Clayton Grissom at the time. I'm also highly amused by the comment about "Jekyll and Hyde," soon to be released on Broadway. Seems so long ago.

      While I love him and Ruben both, I think he was probably going to win.
      "On May 21, 2003, Aiken came in a close second to Ruben Studdard, who won the contest by 134,000 votes out of more than 24,000,000 votes cast. The result was controversial, as some hypothesized that Idol's voting system was incapable of handling the number of attempted calls."

      @@debconnelly1642 if you haven't read Clay's book "Learning to Sing" I guess you wouldn't know. Clay was born with a collapsed lung. Which obviously got fixed when he was a baby. But knowing he was born with a collapsed lung, you wouldn't expect Clay to have the amazing amount of lung power that he has. You would think that the one lung would be weaker but apparently that isn't the case. Clay has a crazy amount of lung power. More than most singers have.

    My daughter, a baby at the time (2002) would crawl in the room when she heard him on AI. Afterwards she crawled away. No interest in anyone else. She was about 1 1/2 and could sing his songs. Her 2nd birthday gift was a Clay poster and CD! We took her to see him in Virginia. He saw her and sang to her. She was stunned! Awesome!

  • @bostonteapartycrasher

    Wow. This is amazing. Considering he's a tenor (or perhaps the only true heldentenor I've ever heard?) and was a teenager when he did this, the amount of resonance he could get in his lower register is absurd. He pulls off a pretty convincing baritone, but you can tell he's singing with his larnyx abnormally low to achieve the resonance.

    • @lightningshock12
      @lightningshock12 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's a Full-Lyric Tenor, not a Heldentenor. His voice is definitely big and heroic, but his voice lacks the timbre overall squillo of a true HeldenTenor. But still, due to his nature as a Full Lyric, he'd be able to sing Dramatic rolls. His vocal weight and stamina puts him on par with Dramatic voices. He performed this song in NC in a concert and his voice was so heroic. He actually sang naturally instead of lowering his larynx, and he had greater power. Clays voice truly is astonishing

    • @bostonteapartycrasher
      @bostonteapartycrasher 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Clay has one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard. If he's a lyric tenor then I've never heard a dramatic voice in my life.

    • @lightningshock12
      @lightningshock12 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, he's not a (light) Lyric voice. He's a rarer more unique type of Lyric. Full Lyrics have the stamina and weight/voluminous sound and large vocal tract that Dramatic voices do. They just lack the darker/colder timbres and metallic qualities that Dramatic voices have. They have the timbre of Lyrics and the naturally subtle affinity of light Lyrics, but with bigger Dramatic-like voices.

    he's using the mic at the top of it's arc of where it could pick up sound, and he has it 1/2 right by putting the sound OVER The pop filter, but yeah it's a bit too close to his chest lol
