    Jim thank you for this. I'm a Bermudian born and raised, and I've never seen such good quality footage of the storm. I was 9 when it hit and remember a lot about it, easily the worst storm in my lifetime. Good to know you guys still think about us these days, and footage like this still exists out there in the world.

      You bet Andrew . . . being 2003 it was originally shot on miniDV tape which is that old TV box 720x480 SD format. I used a special program to upres it to HD, took 24 hrs to convert and it crops to give you 16x9 but I think it looks pretty good. Thanks for watching.

    Again, like Emily, I had a abnormal experience with this hurricane. I lived in Paget on S Hill at the time. I woke up the next morning to find my parents and siblings had a difficult time in St George’s. I felt bad complaining that it was the most boring hurricane experience I had; only to find out a cousin, and my girlfriend’s daughter was killed! I suffered horizontal rain and a power outage; whilst they lost their lives. So sad.

      Emily was the strangest hurricane I had ever experienced! I woke up late that morning. I hadn’t even realized the hurricane passed through! On my way to work the hurricane had turned 360 degrees and struck again! I had passed a bus going to work, less than 5 minutes on my way back home it was laying on its side.

      @@JimEdds there was good that came out of it as well...families and neighbours got together and helped each other out. After 18 days of army bathes and no tv ect...we finally got electricity, I was happy but there was an underlying sense of sadness....because once electricity came on everybody went back to their own spaces. All the cards and board games were once again put away to collect dust.😓

      Always cool to chat with prople that lived through Fabian. Glad the kids get to see it and who knows maybe they will remember that time. • @JimEdds
      @JimEdds  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fabien was rated at 120mph sustained and the folks on the west side said they had the eastern part of the eye. The NHC report said Bermuda took a direct hit. A powerful hurricane by Bermuda standards and I haven't seen one hit Bermuda stronger. I need to get the map out and find long bay beach and somerset. I do remember a nice resort on a small island just off the south shore smashed pretty hard, glad I didn't stay there. Thanks for watching.

    Before Fabian existed, my family and I setup a tent on Hen Island, St. George's Harbour. Day before Fabian arrived, I boarded up the very small old cottage on the island in case we needed to exit our tents. My cousin The Burp, tried to evacuate us with the Silver Dollar, a powerful fishing boat, but the winds were simply too strong. At night we slept in our tents - I had a large tarp draped and anchored over our tents... We made it through without having to seek refuge in the old cottage - I wouldn't recommend trying this. We still have the VHS video we shot in the middle of the night.

    I just wonder what people are thinking when they are outside standing in the wind. Any object of mass that hits them would crush their brains in.

    • @JimEdds
      @JimEdds  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You might think so but say the wind is coming off the water, it's what I call clean wind- there won't be any debris in it. Say you have been watching the wind ramp up and there is nothing in it so it's a calculated risk. You have to look at the conditions and decide. In Bermuda structures are made stronger than in the US. In Taiwan and Japan and Guam same thing, they build them better than the US. They get hit a lot and they don't want to keep rebuilding. But Charley 2004 Punta Gorda was not a storm to be out in. Lots of debris flying around that would hurt you no doubt about it. So I would say it depends on the storm, location, and what's upwind from you. But I would not recommend it to anyone, stay inside be safe. Thanks for watching Louis.

      Video would require I film it and I was in Hamilton for the worst of it. I did show the southern part of the island waves that morning.
