I worked in the Rockefeller Building for a few years after graduating high school. The Educational Research Council of America had its offices on several floors there. I left to go work at Sohio Research & Development in Warrensville Heights which is now occupied by Sherwin Williams. Talk about a Rockefeller connection!! So sad to see it in this state of disrepair.
People that have no knowledge of construction believe that office buildings can be converted to apartments/condos. This is simply not true. It is many times more expensive to do this conversion than to build new. Unless you want to pay $2 million per unit, it simply cannot happen. This is why it is not happening. It's the same reason that 90% of the contents of your recycling bins go to the landfill or incinerator. It is 1000X less expensive to make new water bottles than to recycle the old. It just doesn't feel as good inside.
Sherwin-Williams logo depicts a bucket of paint being poured over the earth’s globe. The same could be done for 614 Superior Avenue. Pouring a bucket of paint onto the 614 Rockefeller building from the rooftop of the new Sherwin-Willams’ skyscraper makes the job much easier (executive cigars not included). Anyone else notice what an amazing resemblance Michelle Jarbo has to Kate Middleton?
These old buildings are not worth remodeling. I've been involved with big projects like this, and the subcontractors never get paid. Things just go on forever. They are not built for modern infrastructure. The wiring alone for just electrical is a nightmare. The sprinkler systems are a nightmare. I have worked on a lot of hospitals that have just expanded over the years, and parts of the buildings are new, and some parts are old. It's challenging and not worth it for buildings that are not in constant use.
cleveland is /was Toast when I moved Sept. 1992. Shaw High!!

Industrial Publishing Co., later Penton/IPC, had a big presence in the Rockefeller Bldg. I remember when ERCA was in the Rockefeller Bldg.
Yeah I worked at ERCA too. Great job.
@@cindygreenwald1202 Yes it really was. I enjoyed going to work every day there.
