  • Meet Sebastian. He is a young boy with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. His family wants to help me share treatment suggestions to help children like him across the world. My clinic, Child and Family Development, in Charlotte, NC, allowed me to use their facilities and their equipment to showcase Sebastian's skill and charming personality. We review techniques to reduce stiffness, encourage strength and control. I think you'll love spending time with him. Thank you to this family and my clinic for allowing this to happen.
    I also have available 3 children's educational books, "A is for Autism," "D is for Down Syndrome," and "C is for Cerebral Palsy" available on Amazon. I have forthcoming "Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises for the Hips". If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com. Please note: I am unable to provide treatment suggestions for a child I have not personally evaluated.

    Thank you for your recommendations! I'm a physiotherapist and I have a child with West Syndrome and I've been trying to improve a better head control for her, though it's a bit hard.

      You are so welcome. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I don’t believe I have treated a child with West syndrome.

    Hi, may i ask how do we improve head control with activities in side lying?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a difficult question to answer without knowing the specific conditions upon which you need to work in side lying. Often I will work on head control as I roll a child from his back toward his stomach, effectively in side lying. Otherwise, I guess you could have a child prop on his elbow in side lying to work on head control or put the child in side lying on an incline to make it easier to work on head control.

    Hi doc,what if a child has an history of convulsions can we use the trampoline

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is something you will need to consult with your physician to know the answer to. However, I do see several children who have seizures. They can jump on the trampoline because it does not encourage seizures. I do not know that answer for your child.

    Hi. How can I start to help a 1 year old kid to have head control. So the neck going around everywhere isn’t bad?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend you find a local pediatric physical therapist that can help you. A child should have had control by one years of age. In the meantime here is my head control playlist

    How long does Sebastian stay on the trampoline?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm. That answer varies from kid to kid. When we were doing this, I would guess 5 minutes. But that would not have bearing necessarily on another child

    Thank you for sharing different techniques. I have an 18 month old child with cp, his head control got much better but still not 100 per cent there. After a while his head always goes to his right side is there a particular exercise for this problem please? Or do you think he just needs to strengthen his neck muscles more doing these exercises? I know it s hard to tell me without actually seeing him but maybe you did encounter this problem with other children. Thanks so much love from Malta 💕

      My strongest suggestion would be for you to find a local pediatric physical therapist who can help customize the activities to your child's needs. I have done a lot of head control exercises with Sebastian. Here is the playlist for my work with Sebastian. I hope it is helpful.

      Thank you so much for your reply much appreciated. Yes one needs to work so hard with children with cp. Progress is so slow sometimes I get disheartened. But I 've seen some changes in him at least. Thanks happy Christmas and all the best
