@@PaperbackJourneys I felt that it was a mature realistic look at an apocalypse type scenario and stresses the importance of having people over supplies when things get bad, like making sure that you’re making a life worth surviving for.
Dystopian fiction is my favorite. I look for different versions of apocalypses, whether it is a pandemic, world war, or climate disaster, I just love reading them. The Road is one of my favorite novels. Another one of my favorites is Station Eleven. It’s beginning reads like how Covid started
Station Eleven is great. Even though we don't spend so much with every particular character, they feel very human and the story feels unique in a way that other post apocalyptic books don´t.
Everyone skips lucifers hammer...loved that book ...I've read a lot of these since I was ten yrs old, started with the stand then onto earth abides and many more....great books
‘The end of the World, it’s FANTASTIC!!’ Haha brilliant, couldn’t agree more! 😀 Great video and thank you, I’ve definitely added some books to my DGR (definitely gonna read) list! I look forward to the next one!
I too was going to mention Swan Song. Another one few these days recall is Gore Vidal's "Kalki" Which isn't the lengthiest of Apocalyptic tales, but it weaves actual history with additional fictional narrative somewhat seamlessly. Another of my favorite series is of course "Left Behind" until towards the end when it get to be a bit to preachy which it had been able to steer clear of for the most part during the saga. One last series and it isn't exactly apocalyptic as per the definition however it is by far the best Dean Koontz series, "Odd Thomas" which the books are a pure joy to read.
Thank you so much for these recommendations. I actually did read Swan Song thanks to people mentioning it and I absolutely loved it. Thanks again fo rcommenting.

Which it in a sense was but how it was all tied in was brilliant. I loved the part of the book that began with AV instead of AD ... AV meaning after virus. One of those reads where I couldn't wait until the next book in the trilogy came out (The twelve). Would highly recommend it to anyone who is NOT into the Twilight notion of vampires.

I Am Legend is amazing. Way better than the movie and different so if you’ve seen it the book is a different story. The Road and Station 11 along with I Am Legend are my favorites in this category. I haven’t read The Stand, it’s too intimidating to even start but one day I’ll have the strength and courage to pick up that book
I recommend Wolves by D.J. Molles. A little more gunslinger (no zombies, but fighting/killing people) but it is a gritty, gorey, post apocalyptic world
Absolutely! There is also its companion novel City of the Dead, which wraps things up nicely. There are also a couple short story collections set in that universe called The Rising: Selected Scenes From The End Of The World. One comes out December 3rd. It's more straight forward zombie apocalypse than the complexities of The Rising. A few years ago I went on a tear, reading just about anything by Keene I could get my hands on. The Complex, Kill Whitey, Ghoul, Dark Hollow, and various short stories. Keene is always a good read.
I’ve recently tried my hand at writing a post apocalyptic book because even though I love the genre I felt it’s all become sort of stale and wanted to a try a fresh spin on the zombie narrative.
