I lost my dad back in 2015 to cancer and this song fractured me. I'm an absolute mess right now.
My father committed suicide recently due to his physical and mental pains from Vietnam 54 years ago. Just couldn't take it another single day. I was never mad at him for doing it, but I just miss him sooooooo fkn much!!! Thank you for your story and for supporting this AMAZING young man who's, literally, touching the world!!! I am sorry for your loss. Another reason I hate the Vietnam war we lived thought.
I am very sorry for your loss, and sorry for the suffering your father felt. I lost both of my parents recently, each to a different cancer, my mom just before NY 2021, and my dad last July, and I was the one to decide to help them peacefully go. I am lucky to have lost them later in life, but I still miss them. But it just proves how much their existence mattered, and how real the lifetime of love was. All the best to you and the rest of you and your father's loved ones.
Iam Tongi is special. But who are reading this remember that you are special too. Never live in regret and always say to the people that you care that you love then. Don't leave to tomorrow. And you are loved too. Hugs from Portugal

James Blount wrote this for his Dad who was in end stage kidney failure. This young man's Dad died of kidney failure 😢 James Dad got a Kidney and James donated the proceeds of this song to help others who need transplants. His version is very emotional as well.
I never watch American Idol this kid has me stuck I can’t stop watching and it’s for him and him alone I mean there are others on the show that are good but he is special he makes you feel and we need that today I absolutely love him!!!

The reason this song hits hard is because Grown Men don’t know how to relay their emotions and say goodbye let alone saying goodbye while his dad is on his death bed.

I was reminded of my father. Before his death, he tried to maintain his household due to economic factors until finally my mother asked to separate from my father. At that time I was small but I knew and felt the pain my father was experiencing, it was seen when he closed his eyes for the last time.
