Stingray City, Grand Cayman, Grand Cayman Islands

Stingrays can be very dangerous. Please excuse the noise level in this film. It was very windy. Steven Erwin was killed by the barb of a Stingray entering his heart, back in 2006. We are still very saddened for him and his family.
There is a famous place called Stingray City found in the North Sound of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. It is a tourist attraction, where southern stingrays are found in abundance and visitors can pet and interact with the creatures. Many families go there and have fun in the sun with the stingrays.
There are two sand bars, one which is the shallows and the other one which is deeper and where it is possible to dive with stingrays. My husband and I went on a tour there. I did not get in the water for fear of what happened to Steve Erwin. I filmed the event from the Catamaran. It was most interesting, prior to anyone allowed into the water with the stingrays, a safety class took place for everyone on board the boat. The tour guides specifically reviewed the necessary steps needed to be taken so not to become a fatality. The key topic was treating the stingrays with respect, not to step on them and giving them their space.
These stingrays have been tamed over the years. If we...as a society took the time to treat each other with such respect, our world would be a much better place and less abusive. Please join Hope for Children Foundation in creating a better place and world for all of us to live without abuse.
