Prior to this match, In the same year Rick Rufus defeated Rob Kaman. What surprised me was the physical change of Rufus for this match, the pronounced muscularity and strength that was not there in the earlier match of the same year, but it was a mistake. He was stiff and far less mobile than before and it cost him a lot of the defeat.
Rick Roufus was only 28 years old and Ernesto 29 in 1994. I think Ernesto Hoost is the best kickboxer of all times in my opinion. I remember the KO against Changpuek who was top muai fighter.
just to put things in to perspective, all the big boys from any fighting style were afraid of Ernesto. just because he had the hardest/sharpest shinbones ever. ti was like getting hit with a baseball bat. no meat around the shinbones. he had small calves and was pretty skinny. his technique and tactic were so good that he could defeat anybody even bigger than him. this is how insanely tough he was. even if you wanted to kick his leg to force him not to use it, you could reach pain before him getting his leg painful. simply Mr Perfect.

Hoost wasn’t unbeatable, but he fought all takers and won most of his fights. Hoost is considered the GOAT by many, including myself. Ps. Sapp wasn’t a good fighter at all, he was just a brawler who used his size. Hoost was an extremely skilled and technical fighter.
it was the 90s they were all on a ton of test. most pro athletes are on some form of PEDs(not test specifically) today as well, only the lazy ones get caught really and they always come up with the “did not knowingly take it” excuse
When i saw this fight it felt for Roufus cause I had no idea who Ernesto Hoost was-I was shocked on how Ernesto broke down Rick which led to the final head kick. Looking back knowing how great Ernesto would become in K-1imnsurprised Rick hung in there as long as he did-tough man.

muay thai and modern kickboxing are superior cause they have 8 weapons while kickboxing only has four. also the clinch and low kicks but you cant deny old full contact is very charming and unique. very good looking
Rufus was a great technical fighter. I think Hoost could have shown abit more restraint in the celebration given the seriousness of the injury. Both very good fighters in their own right.

The best long last fight ever... Very cool fight but interesting. Both are good, skillful, endure. First time saw Roufus in battle. Hoost the best too. They use many martial arts skill such as boxing, kick boxing, Taek kwando, Muaythai, kumitee etc

Beautiful fight. Arrogant American Changpuek Kiatsongrit kicked his ass!! His legs were over after that fight. Kiatsongrit is a legend! Together with Sakmongkol and Buakaw (in later years) my favourite Thai fighter.

@@yongjiean9980 IMO, real kickboxing is all the main forms of kickboxing combined (karate,savate,muay thai, sanda etc). This includes sweeps, elbows, knees, throws etc. At least let people throw legkicks, knees and give them the ability to clinch

Snake Plissken compare his moves and series in this fight and later with pre 1989 fights. It's two different fighters. I guess when he fought Changpuek Kiatsongrit he got serious injuries and was never the same since. Branko Cikatic won K-1 in 1994 when he was 39 years old but it doesn't mean it was his prime
Nasty KO by Hoost, really shows how deadly he can be even without lowkicks. Roufus is a worrior though man, the man was an amazing fighter!

Hoost was a very technical fighter and also trained in savate, even without low kicks he is one of the most complete fighters.
