    Fantastic idea, using a speed camera on a dangerously driven stretch of road to do a 'breaking the speed limit test' ...

    Keep on being crazily eccentric but stay safe while you're doing it 🙏😃

    There´s a funny speed limit in Germany (yes, we have speed limits) or two: inside settlements there is a limit of 50 by default. But only for motorized vehicles, bicycles are allowed to ride along the sound barrier if they like to. Until a sign with an actual number appears, then you have to stick to that.
    Same goes to countryside roads.

    • @VikingDeluxe
      @VikingDeluxe 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's definitely wrong. All Vehicles (including bicycles) have to follow the speed limitations.

    • @tillmannfischer
      @tillmannfischer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      German law actually has a "catch-all": You may never go faster than at which speed at which you cannot control your vehicle anymore, regardless of what the speed limit may be. At 50 km/h (or even beyond), your braking distance in a velomobile is longer than that of a car (simply because you have less contact surface to the ground with those thin bicycle tyres compared to car tyres), so I bet it wouldn't be too difficult to find judges that would interpret even 50 km/h inside enclosed townships as too fast for bikes (and for velomobiles).
      Of course, that will only matter in the event of a crash.

    • @tillmannfischer
      @tillmannfischer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@VikingDeluxe The posted speed limits, yes. But German traffic law has several "general speed limits", and those only apply to motor-vehicles. There's a couple other rules like that - right-hand-side driving for example is lifted inside enclosed townships for motor-vehicles, so cyclists still have to follow that rule while car drivers don't. Meanwhile, the ban on spiked tyres only applies to motor-vehicles, while cyclists can use them completely legally.

    • @kjeldsloot
      @kjeldsloot 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VikingDeluxe In The Netherlands is it almost the same as in Germany. Only inside zones you can't cycle above the speed. But almost everywhere else you can ride as fast as you can with an bicycle or velomobile. And you can drive on the road with most velomobiles and go as fast as you can (not smart to do sometimes). But you can't cycle on the road with an velomobile when their is a sign forbidden for cyclists.
      But If you ride like 60km/h on cycleways the police can say it is wreckless driving. So you can get a ticket for that.

      @kuchenblechmafiagmbh1381 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, in a lot of situations you don't exactly have a speed limit on your bike, but IMHO you shouldn't do >40 kph in a 30 zone and similar in traffic reduced areas (where motor vehicles are only allowed to drive 10 kph - 1st gear and no gas/throttle) and pedestrian zones - adapt your speed to the amount of traffic/pedestrians etc.
      I somedrives drive through a pedestrian zone when there's a lot of people around, but then very slow and also stay behind some until theres a gap (instead of ringing them out of the way).
      Large car parks also often have not 30 but 20 kph speed limit, so when it's busy, don't rush around like an arrow on your bike (and a lot don't have marked walkways, some people just walk around in the middle of the main paths for the cars.
      Germany also has the rule of sight distance: you have to adapt your speed that you can come to a full stop in that distance, especially important in heavy fog or in the mountains/forest and you're in a very long curve and don't see much ahead because the mountain/trees right next to you block your sight.
      I'm sure in most situations as long as you don't cause an accident police probably won't stop you (I "see" a lot of morons without any lighting driving around in the dark), but as said, adapt the speed to the situation around you which also includes the weather, better keep a much bigger safety distance in wet/snowy/icy conditions; on a bunch of roads there are lower speed limits with the additional sign: "bei Nässe" - "in wet conditions".

    Very nice try! Her in the Netherlands 60 is avrg speed on 1 hour timetrails. That's why I quit racing. Much to fast for me.
    For high speed at short distance study on the speed week Battlemountain. Start at 4 km from finish. Gear up. Get your breath back. Next km. gear up. Get your breath back. Next km etc.etc. until only the last 100 meter max power. I'm sure you can speed up to 70, maybe 80 km/h with a Bulk.

    In South Australia, the Police have stated on their facebook page they won't enforce speeding tickets that are 2 or 3 kmh over the posted speed limit. Fair enough too considering individual cops will do the usual tricks like place speed cameras at the bottom of hills to get extra revenue and so on.

    • @TheVelomobileChannel
      @TheVelomobileChannel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same here in Finland. Police reduces 3 km/h from their speed measurement, because of technical reasons. So basically you can drive 3 km/h over speed limit without any consequences.

    Speeding in velomobil is for sure very inteesting paradox for police.
    On one side by text of the law its unmotorized "bike" and text sort of fail to set up any limits.
    On other side by spirit of the law limits are set up to give long ennogh react time to drivers for suprise on the road and break speed except in velo drum breaks are not going to stop fast ennogh.
    I personaly dont really want to go in front of judge to test on which side of law will step.
    On text part velo can go as fast as it want without limit on spirit side its even more dangerous then car.

      The law in the UK is very clear… the speed limit applies to mechanically propelled vehicles. A pedal cycle isn’t… so it’s not illegal.
      It could be used as evidence of furious cycling though…

      The difference in mass between a velomobile and even the smallest car is over an order of magnitude. There is no way a car with non-tuned brakes will stop in a shorter distance from 60km/h than the velomobile.
