  • Watch a colorful flock of Northern Cardinals take over the Cornell Lab FeederWatch Cam. You typically see cardinals moving around in pairs during the breeding season, but in fall and winter they can form fairly large flocks of a dozen to several dozen birds. These flocks are usually made up of approximately equal numbers of males and females, and contain a mix of hatch-year birds and older adults.
Watch LIVE at AllAboutBirds.o... for news, updates, and more information about the pond and its surroundings.
This FeederWatch cam is located in the Treman Bird Feeding Garden at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York. Perched on the edge of both Sapsucker Woods and its 10-acre pond, these feeders attract both forest species like chickadees and woodpeckers as well as some species that prefer open environments near water like Red-winged Blackbirds.
The Wild Birds Unlimited store at Sapsucker Woods has been a part of the visitor experience in the Cornell Lab’s Visitor Center ever since the new building opened in 2003. They are the preferred vendor of official Cornell Lab merchandise and offer a dizzying number of feeders, binoculars, and birdwatching-related gear and gifts to make any bird enthusiast happy. WBU has also pledged support for many of the Cornell Lab’s local efforts, including providing the bird feeders and food for this FeederWatch Cam.
The FeederWatch cam hardware includes an Axis P1448-LE camera with an an ETS ML1-WPW microphone.

    beautiful cardinals!🥰
I can't that many at my feeder at once. It seems like theres only one pair in our area, and even the two of them take turns at the feeder 😅

Same here, I've only ever seen one pair in my area and most of the time I only ever see one or the other (male/female). But to be fair I live near a busy main street, not a lot of trees around. Definitely a more busy suburban area. I wish I could see more Cardinals.

@@BlueBird1994_ That could be why, but I live in a very wooded area myself... maybe some pairs are just very territorial? 😅

Also I read a comment where someone mentioned the finches were beautiful. My Cardinals are also accompanied by these small beautiful birds And mine were identified as chirping sparrows according to a wonderful app called Merlin.
I was perfectly content to glance at the sky every now and then until my sister decided to start feeding the birds this year because I have trees that stay green and nevwr lose their leaves. I called it feathertopia for my hummys, as I intentionally planted vines along with the little sprigs of trees. The trees grew up tall and strong And the vines did exactly what I wanted them to, climbing the trees and blooming orange colored blooms, the hummys love it. I never knew how beneficial it can be to other birds but I do now.❤ I'm still learning of course but I can no longer make fun of bird watchers I rearranged my hammock to be front and center of the shed door for optimal bird viewing😂

In Mobile Alabama I have no less than 10 cardinals at feedings. I know this Sounds anthropomorphic to say and it probably is but I could swear they have a "look out". I was crouched inside of my sheshed unable to be seen but by one male, who was perched up high and had a direct line of sight on me, every single time a sweet little honey of a female would come to land, that male would snitch on me with a call and she would Uturn just as she was abojt to land or either she would drop to the ground. 😂 I have been able to capture many beautiful birds from my window as I crouched and stayed hidden, including beautiful white wings and even a woodpecker pecking off a platform feeder. Oh and the American Robins I have no less than 10 of those at a time, started seeing them a few days ago. Early mornings used to be my most dreaded time and now I set my alarm just so I can hear the symphony in my backyard. It's absolutely beautiful it is ear candy!!❤
Edit to say I attempt to snag a picture or video, with sound and flash off, with my small hidden telephone camera. That's what I meant when I wrote "capture". I promise I'm not being a crazy old bird lady trying to wrangle in winged wildlife 😂.

I think that too. "Look out" is a perfect description. They go tell their little birdie friends somehow I've always thought.😊

I love cardinals! I didn't know that they molted and on year I keep seeing this 'bald' cardinal and I thought, what the heck tried to get you! I also love how the male will feed his mate seeds, so sweet!

I bought very nice feeders that were guaranteed squirrel proof. I bought the best cardinal feed I could find. I filled the feeders and waited. The next morning they were all empty and I filled them again thinking the birds must be really hungry. At 4am they were all full and by 6am they were empty I found out the deer were emptying them as fast as I could fill them. How do I keep deer away from my feeders?
