  • The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has partnered with the United States Bureau for Populations, Refugees and Migration (PRM) in enhancing learning outcomes in Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps of Kenya. Main objectives of the 2022-2023 partnership are as follows - Children in Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps continue to access quality and inclusive education as a durable solution.
Children enrolled in Kakuma and Dadaab refugee schools' benefit from enhanced school-based protection mechanisms.
In Dadaab, LWF has renovated classrooms and therapy rooms, provided learning materials, recruitment of professionals, cash-based interventions and generally enhanced child safeguarding among other achievements.
In this video documentary, we highlight some of these achievements and share some views from the school children and their safeguarding focal points.
"We were able to reach 15,840 learners under the child rights clubs and social advocacy teams. We were also able to support learners undergoing emotional and distressing feelings, reaching more than 3,500," says Jane Nkirote, Safeguarding Counsellor from Dadaab.
Dadaab Area program works to protect children from acts of abuse, neglect, violence, and exploitation. This is in accordance with Kenyan legislation, which is outlined in the Children's Act and the UN Convention on the Rights of Children.
