Also like to wish Divinyls drummer Warren McLean a speedy recovery from his surgery as he battles a bit of cancer. Warren is a master of the kit as well as being a damned fine human being. #WazOnEarth

John, I once heard a muso talking on the radio (I can't remember who) and they said re charting success from albums of serious musicians, that absolutely no one can guess which song will make it. Songs written with charts in mind inevitably miss the charts only to be beaten by 'junk' filler type songs they have used on the album. I mean by filler, songs added to albums that were just thrown together with little thought. A bit like cooking really - if you're handy in the kitchen some of the best little meals are stuff you just chuck together without too much conscious thought. I do remember Ella Hooper from Killing Heidi saying that Weir surprised her and that reminded me. So Divinyls well... you know, we're here enjoying it unforgotten after all this time. I'm revisiting 90s Custard at the moment. I got a new apartment baby .... And it protects me from the lonely whistling streets ...
Beginning with the Temperamental era, Chrissy had completely departed from the wild feral persona she was famous with over 6 years to a soft spoken beauty.
Joey Roller I loved her feral persona ...seeing Chrissy live in the very early 80s in pubs / clubs was the best thing ever .amazing performer and sexy as can be
Steve O'Hare...The change from the feral persona was inevitable as the band matured but may have been accelerated by an interaction at the East African Tragedy (EAT) concert in Jan 1985 where she delivered a wonderfully animated performance of ''Money''. In Chrissy's book ''Pleasure and Pain'' she describes experiencing some friction from fellow performers because of her choice of costume. We all love the gutsy little dynamo, but she also had a sensitive side.
@Warren552011 Yeah Warren, I get the impression that the impact of the interaction had a lasting effect, otherwise it would have pretty well been forgotten and never included in the book. I don't want to imply that James Reyne and the others were a bad lot, as they may have simply been consumed by the pressure of making sure that the concert went smoothly and particularly that it didn't upset the sponsor, Coca-Cola. As we both know, Chrissy was a very talented and complex individual and no one could be blamed for sometimes confusing the persona with the person.
I got told by Marks recent wife owner of wheels and doll baby the song was written about a leather jacket,, I think one of Mark's or chrissy early rock n roll leather Jackets.
When I hear the Lyrics it feels like she is singing about someone close to her who is on the game...could be wrong. Similar to a Sharon O'Neil song" Maxine".
geezuz not every song can be raw and eclectic like 'Science Fiction' or 'Only Lonely'...its ok to have chill songs,if its guilty of anything its guilty of being mildly bombastic,hardly a crime

This song is so good. One of their best late 80's tracks when they were at their best in my opinion.
I hope they release some nice remasters and a boxset to honor Chrissy's career.
