Too bad the last album sucked ass, they haven't been the same since the Odyssey album. I hope they get back to a more fantasy/mythology sound on their next album. There has been too much simplifying, auto pilot and rock n roll. But they are def one of the absolute most underrated bands in the world together with Pain of Salvation, Voyager and Conception.
@@FrankTheDoomriderJohansen I wouldn't say their last album was THAT bad. It's still catchy prog metal, but no Odyssey or New Mythology Suite or Twilight in Olympus.
@@thundersnow93 The only ok song for me was Nevermore, but I can't even get myself to listen to that one... It is like if they don't blow my mind with the next album I am gonna get really depressed. New Mythology, Divine wings and Odyssey are their masterpieces!
@@thundersnow93 It's the Roadrunner effect. Same thing happend with DT, but they eventually figured it out, as will Romeo. They have to sell records to keep going, and the last one sold really well. It's not like there's as many metalheads buying music any more
So damn good. I love how they didn't rush anything but leaned into each part. They should have this "version" professionally filmed, maybe even with an orchestra. Kind of breathtaking.
They played this in Albany, NY in like 2009(?). It was their ENCORE. They played the entire song for a bar with like 120 people in it. They went THAT hard for that few people.
I will say - Allen's material is extremely difficult and could maybe cause someone to lose their voice over the years but Labrie's material is leagues harder and Russel has never suffered a vocal injury to my knowledge. I do like Allen's vocals more in general, but there are definitely reasons why Labrie's voice has dipped over the years.
Given that we've begun to crawl out of the ridiculous pandemic times, this felt like an apt encore. Time to come home from the madness. At my show, Russell was also keen to emphasize the importance of music and it's ability to unite us in these divisive times. He was also just a lot of fun to see on stage. Incredibly talented, endlessly positive and gracious, this band deserves even more success than they're getting. They're a genuine classic.
This one, along with Dream Theater's "Illumination Theory" are by far the Definition of the word Masterpiece. This band is Top Class! Every single member alone. Excellent Musicianship! P.S. Please come in Greece...
Saw them live this summer and they were frigging amazing, the band was so tight and Russell Allen still sounds incredible. Sadly they didn't play this but it was still a fantastic show. It's amazing to me that they play this live with no backing tracks, fully arranged for the band.
Easily one of my favorite bands since way the fuck back. Am absolutely freaking out about a new album from these geniuses soon. Everyone is in peak form too. Fucking hell man. AWESOME!!!
i absolutely love that drummer, he have here the same aproach of carl palmer in pirates live, is amazing, like in the record!, in acolade part 1 his playing is still more incredible, really technique with a lot of preccision and timming, he is really amazing!!, love his parts!, that period of the band was the better and more dinamic...., now are too heavy riff for me...., but fuck, they are incredible, what a guitarrist and singer, and also the keyman is outreageous!
Yeah Pirates is a great comparison to this! Always loved those epic prog ocean story songs haha (Ocean Cloud Marillion, Pirates ELP, The Odyssey Symphony X)
Its cool they are playing The Odyssey, but I'm a bit dissapointed about the rest of the setlist. I mean its almost exactly the same than in their last tour, you would think they had some time to practise few other songs what we didnt hear for awhile.
A part of me is glad they didn't perform this during the 2024 fall tour gig I was at... because I would have literally died on the spot from happiness.
Great performance like always (I was at the Worcester gig)...but for the record that is not the full song...the last 45 seconds or so was cut out at the end 🤔
Man, the recording skips the ending :( But nevertheless, so good. It's an honest shame that in year 2024 we still don't have a proper live recording of this song. Like, the last live recording from SX is so old, people were still afraid of the Y2K virus
Man, After that "fucking messed up" Sea Of Lie solo in Bloodstock festival, I can't view Romeo as the same guitarist ads before. Well, still. Masterpiece song is a masterpiece
Shame they are no longer playing along the original orchestration. It seems to have been a pain, as Michael Romeo has been explaining many years ago, but today should not be that difficult. Oh, well... Still a great performance. And Russell Allen is definitely one of the most exciting modern vocalists.
Transatlantic The Whirlwind takes the cake… sorry guys…. If you know… you KNOW…. my best friend past from cancer 2 months ago… big fan of SX and Transatlantic…..
Why the **** they playing in some club??? They must have show on stadium/open air and 100k+ people!! Guys, now you are so much underrated but history doesnt lie, dont worry.
Be very careful when posting a clip of The Odyssey that cuts it short. It just might ruin someone's day, especially if they were lead to believe it was the "FULL SONG"
Gets to the last few seconds of a 25 minute song, that perfectly draws the curtain on the whole experience. Cammer: 🤔This seems like a good time to stop recording🤷♂
I wish those guys would create a decent DVD from their concerts. I saw them in Copenhagen 2016, Pumpehuset with support MYRATH, and that was anevening I wil never forget, but TH-cam is filled with recordings from peoples phones and other things with crap sound and shaking pictures... (my God). Put the phones away and enjoy the concert. Create a DVD instead. You are doing NO GOOD for the band. And this video is even one of the "better"....
Almost like pop stars, playback.... 🤘🤘🤘🤘 Let other people fucking learn how to play live ❤❤❤ I saw you 20 years ago, nothing has changed, maybe your beards and mine are a little grayer... 👍👍
I think he drank some. At the start of the concert he was playing clean and than slightly less. After the concert I talked to him and my impression is that he was maybe a bit drunk. Couldn't really tell because it wasn't too obvious but maybe he did drink more than he should have maybe it is just what I though I dont know.
The lack of any live albums from a band who sound this good live is a damn travesty.
Live on the Edge of Forever! Check it out.
@@cmjacques They are due for a new one - even that record is not a very good showcase of how great the guys are live

Russell Allen being in TSO has been an amazing exercise in how to maintain a killer metal voice to perform live
What an absolutely stunning performance by Russel Allen. I have yet to hear a metal singer whose intonation is so good live.
Michelle Luppi is another great talent...
I can't imagine what it's like to see them perform this song in the flesh, what a masterpiece.

Performing this song live is incredibly challenging in every aspect, from the drums to the vocals, but they absolutely nailed it.
