Wharton defeats Gaither for Class 5A, District 5 title

Crown the Wildcats champions after their eighth straight win, a 42-35 win on Nov. 7.
The Cowboys will take to the road for the first round of the playoffs.
Andrew Clifford paced Whartons offensive explosion by running for three touchdowns and throwing a 59-yard scoring pass to Xavier Fisher. The senior quarterback passed for 300 yards, including seven passes for 137 yards to Jairus Jones.
Whartons Shane McEwen and Malik Williams also ran for touchdowns.
Running back Jarvis Giles shouldered the bulk of Gaithers offense by rushing for 212 yards and three touchdowns including a long gain of 53 yards.
