  • The tragic scenes out of North Carolina continue today. A majority of downtown Swannanoa has been completely wiped out beyond believe. Closer to Black Mountain roads have been washed out and Lake Tomahawk has drained due to a dam failure and all that remains is a muddy mess.

    Thank you so much for showing the Black Mtn area. You and I commented about that area last evening. Just this evening I was able to talk with my Aunt and Uncle, for the first time since the 27th.
    We are praising the Lord, that they are safe. Their new home was built in the Blk Mtns a few years ago. Their home is okay. Being without power and water, they have went to Charlotte to a hotel.
    You said last night, you would try to film this area. And you did. We are very Thankfull. We appreciate what you are doing.
    My aunt mentioned that they will be volunteering help.
    They are both pastors.
    Be safe out there!
    And, God Bless you.

    I saw my precious aunt's house in this footage and I hope and pray she is with her friends, shelter in place. I haven't heard from her but I hope and pray she is okay. This devastation is so heartbreaking. I'm crying for all the people whose loved ones are gone and displaced and lost everything. It is so sad. Praying.

The country government should be responsible for all this damage. The town is in the flood zone or flood plan. The sad part is the insurance companies are not going to pay to fix anything. It was a perfect storm for a disaster to be created . Extreme intensification going into landfall caring the energy northward and then the energy was enhanced with the higher elevation. You see this happen on Caribbean islands . The other aspect you can see from the video allot of the development was by the river as it's mostly the only useable land . Developers used what was available not knowing it was a ticking time bomb .
    I think it's time to begin the retreat. We have dug a hole that we don't want to put in the effort that is needed to turn things around . We put our heard in the sand and go about our lives like its aok

      This was a once in a hundred year event dude...a massive, incredibly rare flood in this area. So, your sarcasm isn't justified. It would be like saying, dont live in the midwest, because you might get hit by a tornado once a century, or in CA because you might get a massive earthquake once every hundred years.

      @@28704joe is it? You should look into the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis. Approximately 12k years ago there is evidence that a series of meteor impacts melted the Laurentide and Cordilleran ice sheets in a matter of minutes causing a mile deep flood. The story is in every culture for a reason. And the Day of the Dead, also in every culture interestingly enough and at around the time that earth goes through a meteor debris field (perseids).

      Honestly - the drone video shows the damage in places where ppl can't walk or drive. I'm in Texas - there are no words to describe the vast areas & extent of Helene's damage to infrastructure, homes, businesses. Many many many towns, multiple states Roads & bridges destroyed, railroad tracks destroyed. No power. No water. Grocery stores & gasoline shortages. No internet & cell phone communication for days if at all. Reports of hundreds of dead bodies. It is beyond comprehension. And storm chaser videos help the rest of the nation see what is real, that national main stream TV does not cover. I'm 74. This is one of those apocalyptic scenarios that will take MANY years to recover from - and some towns will never recover.

    Looks obvious to people who don't live in this region that many of these homes should not have been in these areas and that many of these mobile-homes were not properly tied down, or just poorly built. I see no drainage canals nor storm-sewer systems. However, it is obvious that the real problem came from upstream at each location where there was carnage. It would have been cheaper to build
    some of this stuff right the first time.

    • @schex9
      @schex9 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +15

      I don't think you have ever tried to hold a mobile home in place against 1,000,000 cfs water passing through. And since the water basically scoured out its own new channel, the soil holding a concrete tiedown structure in place would have been washed away and next the concrete goes. We don't design for the 500- to 1000-year flood.
