    I dont know how much time you need to prepare these videos, but i can tell you that this is really awesome. Looking at so many different examples is really great to improve my skills for Darktable but also in photography in general! Thanks for all these videos. I hope that will last for a long time ;)

    That was just amazing to watch the transformation. Such a great way to show how to use the new modules. I've been struggling with my use of colour calibration and colour balance rgb for a while now. This helps so much. Appreciate the work that goes into these video Boris. Thanks a bunch.

    i like how you've changed the colours on the same mask for the orange above and blues on the road. In Lightroom I would tend to create one gradient mask for top and another for bottom.

    I am amazed at your knowledge and knowledge of Darktable. How should I understand the operation of lights and shadows in the RGB color balance module?

    • @s7habo
      @s7habo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Highlights and shadows are available in "master", "4ways" and "masks" tabs. Which one do you mean?

    • @Bizon-q2u

      @@s7haboI'm thinking about the first and second tabs. Shadows and lights repeat themselves. What is the difference? I see you are using the highlight and shadow sliders in both tabs.

    Another great video. I was wondering why you increase contrast in color balance rgb in both the general and four ways tabs rather than just one?

    • @s7habo
      @s7habo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Christian. I just needed more contrasts. I also wanted to see how it looked with both. It worked well and that's all.

    Hi Boris - This is one of my favorite videos, now watched for the 4th or 5th time - because these pale colors are characteristic for what I get in my photos where I live. I have one question though. Why do you use the Exposure module to paint lightness to a belt across the image, immediately followed by a Color balance module to manipulate the colors of the same area. Why don't you use the Color balance module for the lightness too and spare the rather rigid Exposure module, which have only one slider?

    • @s7habo
      @s7habo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exposure is a linear function. I wanted to illuminate the areas evenly.

    • @Eigil_Skovgaard
      @Eigil_Skovgaard ปีที่แล้ว

      @@s7habo Now I get the impression that Global brilliance isn't linear. Is that true?

      Also, if you hover over the module name with the mouse, you will get information about the input and output of the modules

    • @Eigil_Skovgaard
      @Eigil_Skovgaard ปีที่แล้ว

      @@s7habo I get it - thought it was lighting only - and linear: "Perceptual brilliance grading affects both the luminance and the chroma dimensions, in a perceptual space, proportionally to its input value, at constant hue, and in a direction orthogonal to the saturation."

    • @s7habo
      @s7habo  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Eigil_Skovgaard And what's more, the results will be different depending on which of the two possible perceptual color spaces you use for color balance rgb module. In the "mask" tab, under the "saturation formula" option, you can switch between these two different color spaces.

    good video 👍 - what is the purpose of moving the mondule in the pipeline ? Do you have a video about this ?

    • @s7habo
      @s7habo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. No, I have not made a video about it. The reason is simple. Since in the pixelpipe (from bottom to top) the result of one module is the starting point for the next one, I sometimes want to change the order when I want to achieve certain effect. For example, diffuse and sharpen module is hierarchically *before* color balance module. With it you can blur the image. But if I want to blur the photo *after* the colors are *saturated* , so that I have a nice glow of the colors, I put it *above* the color balance, with which I first increase the saturation.

    I am so very grateful for this series. It's made a tremendous difference both to my darktable skills and landscape photography skills. I am shooting scenes that I would have disregarded previously. Making use of the channel mixer in Colour calibration and the many options in colour balance RGB makes a huge but rather controlled and subtle difference to the contrast and levels and really makes images pop.

    • @s7habo
      @s7habo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the beautiful and very important comment! This thoughtful and layered approach is the key to a good result which many do not know!
      They are led to believe by the marketing strategies of various image processing software manufacturers that they can achieve excellent results with a pair of intelligent sliders. They don't realize that they lack the knowledge necessary to control the various elements that make up a photo.
      Professional photographers, regardless of the software they use, can greatly enhance the photo through successive targeted steps, because they have appropriate knowledge of what needs to be done for the particular scene.

    I have some questions because I found this method quite complicated. Is it the intended use of those modules (I mean, running 3 or 4 instances of them and using Color Calibration to mix channels) ? And if you want to do the same with lightroom, does it require the same amount of manipulation ?

    • @s7habo
      @s7habo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is actually not complicated. I use multiple instances because by separating the photo to different color areas, I have ALL the options of the module available in the respective instance to manipulate these selected areas. Actually, I could use only one instance of color zones module for this, but multiple instances of color balance module give me much more options and also the better control.
      How to achieve this with Lightroom I can't say, because I don't use that software.
      As for the channel mixer, that is a common tool, and I know that many other applications, such as Photoshop, have it as well.
