    May have been the first time “The Friendly Skies” was used in a United campaign…which makes it hugely important and pioneering. Became its general tagline for decades after.

      Didn't they airlines have curtains on the windows instead of pull shades of today?

    • @RaptorFromWeegee
      @RaptorFromWeegee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@timwahl1 I think that was a McDonald-Douglas Aircrafts touch. Their windows were different than Boeing, they were bigger but they had fewer of them, so they'd fill in the empty space on the wall with curtains.
      Can't remember if they actually functioned. Def remember them on all the DC-8s, not sure if the DC-9 or 10 had them.

      Right you are. To me like 1962-1975 was the golden age of United. Then they started moving in the direction of no frills flying, like eliminating 2nd class lounges on the 747s

      @@RaptorFromWeegeeyes, that is a DC-8-61 in the commercial. I have flown in DC-8s, and the windows were indeed much larger than in Boeings and spaced further apart.

      We can thank the flight attendants union for that. Suddenly they couldn't be fired for failing to smile and be nice. No more mandatory retirement by age 30. Naturally, the stews started acting more like corrections officers than Gisha girls
