Soldier 76 out of all people calling sigma an old man is pretty funny
There's a genuine tenderness to how Sombra interacts with Sigma, like she's talking to a grandparent that's lost his mind in his old age. Olivia may be a manipulative narcissist, but it's good to see there's a heart in there.
@Tats McGee Unlike some other cyber criminals, the elderly are significantly more likely to fall for online scams. I guess overwatch is a utopia in that regard.
Its important to remember that sombra comes from a very vulnerable place as a post war kid. Her contempt is only for people who have power. Someone like Sigma is so vulnerable as someone who struggles with amnesia that bullying him would not make sense and would actually be cruel. I actually want to see what her interactions with symmetra will be like considering sym is arrogant and self righteous, but is extremely vulnerable to the truth of her world and echos sombra's childhood aswell.

I think sigma is just the nicest character, he doesn't mind people who hate him, or hate who he hangs out with, he doesn't mind conversations and can hold one quite nicely, he would be the best math teacher

actually concerning about the iris, if you watched the recent ow 2 animation called genesis, theres 3 parts of it. the iris is actually referring to aurora, echo predecessor. or other words, nirvana in buddhism.
Sombra's interactions with Sigma are so precious, to think that the manipulative blackmailer is probably the only one at Talon who isn't manipulating him
Maybe it's because she knows how the ones being manipulated feel when they have full control of themselves as she's done it to them. She maybe doesn't want sigma to go through that without control over his own thoughts and actions all the time.
What's the point of manipulating someone if they're already insane

Sigma's voice actor does a perfect job making him seem both dangerous as hell and extremely vulnerable. There's always that hint that he's the most powerful person on the roster and just can't mentally use his full power most of the time.
Theoretically he could destroy the planet itself without much effort but he's so kind and oblivious that there's pretty much no chance of that. Extremely interesting character.

That could be what the other guy was referring to, alongside the “hold it together” and potential split personalities, another thing hinted at in the sprays

sigma does expose moira's flaw; lack of patience
that was actually hinted at with an interaction with mercy and her, "what a joy it must be to be entitled to patience"
To be fair, we did have a fair understanding of this with Mercy already. But Sigma definitely tests Moira’s patience considerably.
Moira probably sees it as a strength.
Her whole backstory does have to deal with her leaving OW because she felt they made her waste too much time trying to research the ethical way. So it does definitely make sense.
She really does have a huge lack of it

honestly i wouldn't want that, i would like a different representation within the universe, bit a sigma fourth wall break in the story (story mode or maybe even a comic aside from possibly his origin story video) would be absolutely bonkers

@@monkeyl- Doomfist believes that conflict is the only way to strengthen humanity as a race, and talon is here to be that conflict. Reaper is just a murderous psychopath. At least that's what I've gathered from the voicelines and lore comics and such.

Doomfist is my favorite overwatch character for a reason. as someone who loves playing devils advocate, I may not condone anything doomfist does, but i can understand his position, and to me, those are the best villains: a villain whose goal is both attainable, and understandable, even if you may disagree with what that goal is. Doomfist hates stagnation, he sees playing the villain a necessary thing for true progress to be made, which as horrible as it sounds, irl, is somewhat backed by the fact that most modern innovations were achieved during times of war. I think doomfist was potentislly set up to be the best big bad overwatch could offer, considering his ultimate goals and ambition to achieve them
Sombra and Sigma's relationship is so wholesome, I love it.
She actually cares for him and he appreciates her as a friend.

If Widowmaker's kill line for him is any indication, he's intentionally not wearing shoes. (And, I mean, he can float, so it's not like he needs any.)
@@angelbloodshinra he’s likely not wearing shoes due to how long he was in that mental asylum after the accident with the black hole during his research. in psychiatric hospitals (formerly known as lunatic asylums or mental asylums), patients that are deemed a danger to themselves or others will often not be permitted to wear shoes or shoes with shoelaces because they could be used to harm themselves or others. shoes can be thrown at people and cause some nasty damage if it hits your head or any other particularly vulnerable area, and shoelaces can be used as ligatures to tie around someone’s neck to attempt injury or suicide. if you are permitted to wear shoes in a psychiatric hospital, they’ll usually be provided by the hospital during long stays (and it’s implied that sigma was there for some time) and they’ll usually be something soft, like slippers.
when you’re in an asylum as long as sigma was, it’s likely that he kinda just… got used to it, and neglects shoes in a lot of his skins as a result. a lot of patients in asylums for extended periods of time have been shown to retain routines or things like that even after being released (or “freed” in sigma’s case).
@@starffruit the artist who designed him actually claimed that the reason for the barefootedness was to "sell the asylum look", which I remember not going down very well with people who had actually spent time in psychiatric hospitals for one reason or another bc it isn't accurate to how things actually are in those places (slippers and slipper socks are supposedly way more likely, as you said). I feel like they should have just gone with the "a zero g floaty astronaut adjacent kinda guy doesn't need to wear shoes" angle for justifying it...
The fact zenyatta hesitates at Sigma's statement makes one wonder, if the Iris is something a "normal" person shouldn't directly meet
It almost certainly exists in a different plane of reality, and since his accident seems to have given him all sorts of access to other realities and eldrich knowledge...

If Sigma did somehow touch upon the Iris during his black hole experience, then it's no wonder he's gone mad.
They might change it, but I interpret the Iris as the overwatch version of Nirvana, or something like that. It’s something to experience, not meet. It’s not sapient, it’s a thing. I think that’s why Zenyatta seems hesitant
The Iris could be some living embodiment of death. Given the Omnics are never considered "Alive" by there human counterparts and the first of the shambali met the Iris in death....
Though, I'm much more a perpetrator of the idea that the Iris is a sort of Universal background radiation, a cosmic white noise, the music of the spheres. Zen and Orisa always seem to refer to it as though it were an audio experience.
@@boobyqueen So buddy... Im not entirely sure about what buddhism has to say about sentience in Nirvana itself. Taoism clearly states that the Tao is the stillness that originates life and thus is very much conscious itself. And buddhism is very into the spiritual concept of "reality is a mental phenomenon", so it wouldnt surprise me if somewhere in the holy books there is a passage that states Nirvana has some consciousness. Nonetheless, going by the taoist/buddhist concept of infinite realities, the Iris is just Nirvana by another name.
Sigma and Sombra's relationship's is so tragically cute, she really sounds like she cares for Sigma and will make anyone's world hell if they decide to manipulate and utilize him for their own gain.
It's sort of a granddaughter and grandpa connection, it's nice to see her care about someone for once.

I kinda get it tho I used to have a neighbor who passed away a few years ago. He was a Vietnam veteran and 92 when he passed away. He had dementia so as you can imagine he asked or repeated the same shit a lot. So at times it would get annoying if he asked the same question like 5 or 6 times but it wasn't in his control so nothing much we could do. He was a good guy just no longer fully there
Sigma is just the bestest overwatch boy. He just likes science and can't seem to understand when he's being insulted or used. Good think he's got Sombra looking out for him :)

Ok, I’m calling it now that Sigma is more aware than he lets on and is trying to deal with Talon on his own terms. The way he ignores Soldier just seems so deliberate, and I think him annoying Moira is completely intentional too.
100%. He wants to be with Talon, although whether his reasoning for that is sound is a different matter.

I was thinking about that for the Soldier interaction! It almost seemed like a scary insinuation about Soldier himself, the "second ant." He really is one of the more powerful, knowledgeable characters in the cast after all. He's never seemed evil to me, so I would love for him to secretly be playing Talon or betray them after all this time.
The Moira one I took as him genuinely missing her sarcasm, but, the idea of him catching on to her getting annoyed and starting to do it to her on purpose for his amusement is really funny 😂😂
@@solar469 I hadn't considered Sig being on the spectrum! It's hard to tell what's from his gravity accident and what's not. We haven't seen much of him before the accident, after all.
Either way, it makes me wonder how he and Symmetra would get along! I'd like to see that.
Unfortunately, it truly is that easy to manipulate the mind of someone with a terrible mental affliction such as schizophrenia, which is what I believe sigma has. His mind wandering off and his inability to focus can be caused by other mental illnesses, but I believe the whole derealization thing along with auditory hallucinations are clear signs he truly isn’t present when being addressed, and isn’t able to be. With patients like this, what you see is typically what you get; no underlying thought process that they’re not already vocalizing through hallucinations or whatnot.
I like to think Moira can't get work done until she solves whatever question Sigma says. Like waking up in the middle of the night to google something.

Well considering overwatch has magic, zenyatta is empowered by the iris and the fact that sigma was stretched through time and space and probably saw different layers of reality it's very likely
The ants thing actually makes sense, if you consider Talon and Overwatch to be the ants. And, like Sigma, someone is watching their every move, and they don't even know it.
It's probably why Sombra likes him. He can see it all, just like her, he just can't express it.
Thing is, Sigma likely "sees it all" in a more literal sense
Sigma having his mind wander and others trying to pull him back is sad but a dynamic I'd like to see more of

Come to think of it Soldier and Sigma have Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy vibes.
I mean, Sigma is older than 76, I think 76 is around 55 while Sigma is 62, (and a little "bonus"if Overwatch take place during 2076(not sure If thats the correct date) that means Sigma has born in 2014 and 76 during 2021.)
@@tfcast1977 I know there's a timeskip of at least 2 years between OW 1 and 2. So they're probably a few years older. Difference in age remains though.

@@Slendrguy well that could be because of dementia as studies have shown that schizophrenia is associated with having a high risk of dementia and the fact that he doesn't fully remember things and the experiments he has performed there is a high chance that dementia has started to take route in his mind
i hope they go even further. the difference between the cinematic and him in ow1 is jarring. sure i love his polite side too but in ow1 it seems that he is a pretty normal guy outside of a couple voice lines, when in lore he is comlpetely insane.
It seems like he becomes mentally unstable when he hears “The Melody” or uses his power. He becomes more aggressive when attempting to hold together a failing barrier. He becomes even more unstable when using kinetic grasp. When his ult is active and he goes from floating to full on flight, the melody becomes so overwhelming loud even the player can hear it. This is when he is at his worst as he screams out and if you listen closely when using it you can hear maniacal laugher.

I love how casually Sigma treats everything. He has no idea the organization he’s working for has plans to throw the world into war, he’s just trying to experiment on the world.

Talon must really be kind and generous if they aren’t just torturing the man like what had previously happened (or at least not strapped him down like what we saw during his origin story). Would be an extra kicker to find out if Sombra’s kindness to him is her means to gain an ally if things were to ever go south for her (like having a friend in a group of potential enemies).
It seems like Talon leadership is more pragmatic than sadistic. If being nice gets them what they want they seem willing to go that route. I think Widomaker was an exception to send a message.
Sigma also seems to be fine with talon seeing they give him what they need, wonders if sombra pulls from talon if hell tell them or help her
talon manipulating him into committing acts of terrorism isn’t very kind and generous
and sombra isn’t truly with talon. she’s just there for her own gain
I think a lot of people are honestly afraid of Sigma’s power. Especially since he’s not all there and know one really knows how his powers work and where they come from. That’s probably why Talon feeds him resources because they need that kind of power if they’re to stand a chance.

It might be possible, if the theory that the "Iris" is one of the super A.I. like the one in Anubis is true.
@@agentrose9905 he may be a crazy old man, but he's a crazy old man who a) still knows his science b) Was considered genius enough to visit the Lunar colony a couple of times c) experienced a black hole up close and personal and has given him gravity defying powers, not unlike Zen.
Sigmas arch genuinely makes me sad for him as a character. Beautifully constructed, but so tragic for him. I hope he breaks free soon

This Iris that Sigma's met...do you think it has different outcomes for humans/organic life as opposed to Omnics? If something can give a conscience to that which doesn't, what happens to those that already do? Sigma is mostly aware and capable of interaction, and can float like Zenyatta, another exposed to the Iris. However, he hears the universe unlike anyone else. It'll be exciting if we ever get to learn more about it.
Of course, I'm also prepared for Blizzard to write themselves into a corner. Existence is hard to jot down precise.
Gonna be the nerd here sigma reversed his own gravity after harnessing the blackhole and gravity itself, tho your theory could be correct, sigams studies could of lead him into what zenyatta sees the iris as but instead of just giving him the ability to levitate it gave him power on a higher level, it also might be to him being organic, zenyata also didnt go insane so maybe it was less of a strain for zenyata to see the iris then it was for sigma, so the ability side is less for ominics but so is the strain, and the strain and ability gain is higher for an organic

This makes Sigma seem so lost. He's always had one of the craziest stories in Overwatch, and these interactions make him seem so blissfully unaware of the situation he's in, at least the normal version of Dr. Kuiper
Man, Sigma’s a grade-A class of crazy, yet also a very interesting person. One of Overwatch’s best characters.
Feel so bad for the guy. Just like Junkrat he’s an extremely pleasant fellow who is always cheery and polite to everyone they talk to but do to circumstances mostly out of their control they’ve gone completely batty and no one treats them with respect 😥

I like how through these interactions you can really tell sigma's mind is lost, it's a little heart breaking to be honest. Sometimes he asks honest questions everything seems normal, other times he's clearly lost.
The interactions at 1:00 (Zen) and 1:43 (Cass) have _FAR_ greater implications about Sigma, what happened to him, and what he experiences now than many people seem to realize tbh
Yep I really can't wait for the story to learn more about sigma. Also wish we could have more aggressive sigma personality like in the origin story and his ultimate.

With Soldier, he’s speaking in doubles, from innocent obliviousness and from arrogant disdain, *speaking of both Talon and Soldier as ants, entertaining but inconsequential creatures while he’s being told that he’s being used*
With Zenyatta, sly mischief, speaking of *having Zen’s God while knowing he wouldn’t be taken seriously*
Moira, playful mischief, *constantly throwing silly questions at her to the point of irritation, knowing that he’d be excused for being insane*
His being has been split in two before being *layered* atop each other, and more often than not it’s not just one but *both* that’re responding to his environment.
@@fakename2926 interesting theory and you might be right. Sigma's dialogue when he kills is dark but can also be rather cold instead of insane ramblings. And clearly Sigma knows something that the rest of the cast doesn't. I believe he will be very important in the story mode.

As an Irish American, hearing Moira reference the Faeries as the ones who turn people mad and take them to their realm etc. It makes me so happy to see my culture being accurately represented. My grandmother used to joke about the faeries taking me and thats why I had such an attitude lol.
I wonder if Moira has the same fear of birds in the house? Who knows.
I think in this universe, Sigma turned the Faeries mad, seeing how he's back from their realm.

It's not just that he's out of it. Even in the moments where he seems to think something is completely out of the ordinary (meeting a cowboy/getting transported to the 1880's), he just seems to roll with it and think of all the wonderful things he could be doing there. That man is really positive.

Sigma is by far my favorite character, lore wise I am absolutely obsessed with his history and his future!

after hearing the interactions i think the difference between moira and sigma's research is that moira's is based on live experimentation while sigma's is based on speculations and theories
maybe that is why she doesnt have patience with him, he is not objective but more subjective when thinking about stuff

Shes being her typical reserved methodical self. In Irish lore the Fae/Fairies etc are said to wisk people away to their realm or drive them mad. Some say if you step in a fairy ring (devil ring to some) the fae take you to their world and it drives you crazy by proxy. To me, it seems Moira being her analytical methodical self; is asking that question in a way to test if sigma is being cognizant or if he's "off somewhere else". The context also implies he had a huge mental break and finally came down to a human level of cognition and shes asking what it was like because she is sickly curious.

It's gonna be a shame when (as I predict), Sigma finally unleashes his power to the fullest extent and then realises he's done some horrible things and breaks down crying...
This is the exact kind of speculation of what might happen that drew me into Overwatch in the first place, but also the exact lack of any and all plot progression from Blizzard that disillusioned me from it.. I really hope they pull their shit together and actually tell a story instead of just staying in 1 moment in time and tacking extra shit onto the sides. Maybe they can yet reignite that original sparkle

They definitely toned up Sigma's insanity in OW2. In OW1 he's kind of like that weird but still cool uncle, in OW2 he's definitely more unhinged.

Doomfist: arrogant, closed-minded, will challenge someone for arm-wrestling randomly
Moira:weird, meticulous evil cientist, probably already have a plan to kill you if she wants to.
Sombra: chill and sassy, loves gossiping, "information it's live", actually good to hang out.
Sigma: loves to talk about universe, naive, has a focus of a child
Widow: not that talkative, likes to read, personality of a cat
Do not forget that Sigma is a gentleman too, there's an interaction between him and Widow where he invites her to dine on the cabaret, she rudely declines, and he apologizes in the most polite manner...
I love how some of sigma’s hypothetical questions are related to someone being controlled or under watch really egging on the “gravity is a harness”

I love how Talon has to take care of Sigma literally like an SCP. Man can go batshit insane any second so they try to keep him as docile and happy as possible, playing along to his every request and whim because they’d rather do that than face the alternative.
