Here in Nova Scotia my Devils' Pocker sedum gets such big wide heads, which get from light green to pink to dark red as the temps drop. When almost everything including brown eyed susans are done blooming, those are such wonderful pops of colour as the trees are losing their leaves. At my young adult daughters' new ocean view house she is just starting to put in her gardens. The hedges will be chives, perennial geranium & sedum alternated. They won't need the shaping & trimming that boxwoods do but will still create large rectangles for inner plantings of mixed plants with vegetables & herbs. Want her to have less mowing as much as we both enjoy the job, but are busy people. I wonder if you have tried Tansy in containers for even more diverse butterflies etc. But don't let the yellow buttons go to seed. As lovely as the foliage and t hose bright yellow little circles of bloom, they are invasive if not controlled.
