Glad you enjoyed. Not much has been done over the winter to the layout, but quite a bit has been done rolling stock wise. Several coaches have been purchased and refurbished and figures for the stations have been cleaned and repainted. One the weather picks up we will be cleaning the track and checking for any damage, before running sessions commence once again.
That is a wonderful layout. I only had a small HO set as a kid, but I love layouts ! I used to like only HO however now I am impressed by what is available in 'G'.
Adlestrop is approx 2 scale miles! Much work has been done since this video was shot. There is now a station by the pond extension called "Lakeside" with over the line signal box, station building and a cafe/picnic area!
Love it all - what a fantastic garden layout. Have subbed and look forward to more :) Sadly I only have space for N Scale and that is indoors, so I hope I never need snow clearance.
The track is a mixture of Cliff Barker flexible nickle silver and Tenmille brass - both code 200. Lakeside station is now complete with passengers, lighting and colour signals, as is Adlestrop. One of the team has designed a new point motor and this will undergo trials over the winter. A new 45ft siding has been installed between Adlestrop and Lakeside.
Update. We hope to film the second part of the video in October, depending on the availability of the camera crew and the weather! Running this year has been limited to members availability and health issues and of course the rotten weather. On the few days we did have good running days with several live steam engines in attendance the film crew were unavailable. Watch this space as they say!
another short video has been added - part 2 - The Early Years! A new updated version of Adlestrop has been filmed and will be on here shortly. It will show the new Lakeside station on the pond extension line! 10 Oct 17
The buildings all have covers over them, and the outside station is covered over with a tarpaulin. The rest is left to the elements and cleaned with a blower and a hoover! AS the track does not carry any current it doesn't require cleaning for the locos to run smoothly
most diesel locos have directional lights but they don't show too well on the film. The black loco is actually dark green and is radio controlled live steam!
Beautiful train (the yellow one) but why did the manufacturer make it sound like a flying saucer from some 1950s sciencefiction movie instead of a train?
Not much difference Jaime. The locos are all battery powered radio control, so no direct pick up from the track. Keeping the rails clean would be a nightmare. The biggest problem is leaves on the line but we have a blower to clear them!
I see the point of going for that solution; but I am wondering whether doing things the way they are done for the real trains (levelling, digging, cutting, building bridges, etc.) would not be easier and the result, more appealing to the eye.
Def not! We are only a small team, mainly 65 - 82 years of age, and the ground work would have taken years not to mention the huge cost involved. The owners intention was to run trains rather than create a scenic railway. The line varies from 2ft to 5ft above ground level. The current stations were obtained from a members layout, ready built, but the new Lakeside was scratch built. This will be on the next video!
Thanks. The owners interest is in more modern traction diesels but visitors do bring their own locos to run, and we get a good selection of live steam too!
No genius involved. We were assessing the pulling power of the loco around the new Lakeside extension and just kept adding on a few more available wagons!
Not really! The Vintage Carriage Section hired the Warship to haul their clerestory stock for a rail tour! We have visiting modellers, who model different periods and who bring their own stock of locos and carriages as they dont often get chance to run on such a large layout. We even have a Canadian Pacific steam loco and stock running at various times! Its a layout where you can run your locos and stock no matter what period you model.
No need for an "exterior" mic. No mic works well in wind without a wind screen: Just wrap a piece of furry cloth around it. (I'm a pro sound recordist.)
The locos are lovely! Very wise to build a garden layout at that level too!
This is just awesome! Welcome to build any train things in my garden!!

Very nice video and fun to watch. Have a nice day.
Fantastic -nice to see running at sensible scale speeds!
That is a wonderful layout. I only had a small HO set as a kid, but I love layouts ! I used to like only HO however now I am impressed by what is available in 'G'.
you are so lucky to have the space to do a layout like this...
I especially love the steam hauled 11 car passenger train the best!
Very good video. 👍 🤝
Very impressive layout and a joy to see.

Part 2 Video ?
Yes, part 2 video would be great.
WoW! Massive layout!
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I have seen a glimpse of heaven, it has rails.
very impressive , love to see it in person!
visits can be arranged with notice!
awesome train video

This train too stopped at Adlestrop; the train
Hissed; birds were singing in the nearby trees.
A "visionary"! How cool is that?!

Part 3 has now been added. Showing before and after footage of the new Lakeside station!
Very nice

nice track
There will be an update to the video when the "Lakeside" station is complete - had so many hold ups due to bad weather - watch this space as they say!
Very good
Amazing!
Awesome!
Just aweome
hello, beautiful layout!! what trak do you use? code 250 or 332, or marklin ??
what scale trains would best suit 1:14th scale rc trucks ??
not sure on that Gauge 1 works out at 1/32 scale
Neil2726 yeah the trucks are 20mm or so per foot the gauge 1 are around 10mm per foot ain't they would love a model for my heavy haulage model
closest is Gauge 3 which is 1/16 scale!
A question for you. How do you protect yourmodel railway from the elements eg. Snow, rain and leaves that fall on the track ?.
The buildings all have covers over them, and the outside station is covered over with a tarpaulin. The rest is left to the elements and cleaned with a blower and a hoover! AS the track does not carry any current it doesn't require cleaning for the locos to run smoothly
Quite spectacular, but no lights on the trains?? Is that black loco live steam?.. it looks very real.
most diesel locos have directional lights but they don't show too well on the film. The black loco is actually dark green and is radio controlled live steam!
You noticed differences in the maintenance of the nickel silver versus the brass track?

any idea to get a drawing of the entire layout, need some ideas, thx
What company are magnificent trains Made by
The class 66 diesels are manufactured bu Aristocraft. Others have been scratch built from kits. The steam locos are owned by visitors to the railway
Impressive layout. If the gentlemen wish to enjoy their hobby for longer they really should lose some weight and keep fitter.Thank you for entertaining
Having everything build off the ground ruins some of the illusion...
It was necessary to build off the ground as the site is far from level and laying the track at ground level would have meant major landscaping.
I see the point of going for that solution; but I am wondering whether doing things the way they are done for the real trains (levelling, digging, cutting, building bridges, etc.) would not be easier and the result, more appealing to the eye.
The trains themselves are a wonder to watch.

WHo is the genius who thought the 2 blue cars belonged on the "ALL YELLOW" train?
No genius involved. We were assessing the pulling power of the loco around the new Lakeside extension and just kept adding on a few more available wagons!
Invest in an 'exterior' mic next time & a Warship hauling clerestory coaches is just silly.
Not really! The Vintage Carriage Section hired the Warship to haul their clerestory stock for a rail tour!
