I loved this line: "We need to recognize the immense goodness present in our world, lest we be tempted to think ourselves overwhelmed by evil and violence. The signs of the times, which include the yearning of human hearts in need of God’s saving presence, ought to become signs of hope."
As I listened through this I was struck by the lines: "Everyone knows what it is to hope. In the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come, despite our not knowing what the future may bring." This is of course drawing heavily from Hebrews 12. Then at the end of that same paragraph he says that God's Word is the guide as we find reasons for that hope, and this introduces his meditation on Scripture. Another point that I had really hoped to get to in the video but time restrictions... he takes special care to emphasize the gravity of repentance as the origins of a fruitful pilgrimage, even calling it a "wellspring of hope... the essential starting-point of any true journey of conversion." God bless Pope Francis and may God richly bless Jane, Chris, and Dominic and all that read this document!
I love this part: 'Hope does not disappoint. ' So much in this life does disappoint. Hope does not disappoint. And I love that Pope Francis places this statement at the very start of the document, as the title of the document.
Regarding the intro, it seems that you have not been the only Catholic TH-camr oblivious to the start of the Jubilee. I haven't really seen any coverage of it apart from the actual opening of the various Holy Doors, but zero coverage of this document. Thanks for shining a little light on it. I especially liked the last section of the document (#25) and linking the image of an anchor to hope. "The storms that buffet us will never prevail, for we are firmly anchored in the hope born of grace, which enables us to live in Christ and to overcome sin, fear and death."
The Catholic Church rules. I would have never made so much progress in the spiritual journey had it not been for the richness of this church. I was severely lost, in fact nearly dead from addictions and years of sin. Jesus came to me on a hike many many years ago He healed me some and pointed me in a completely different direction. I was drastically changed that day. I go to daily mass, read what the saints who have had a big conversion have to say. Mindfully Pray the rosary, utilize confession, and most importantly beg for His mercy and strength to forgive me every day and use me for His glory. I highly recommend people turn to Jesus. I know it can be very difficult, especially for people who identify with same sex attraction and tainted by years of great sin.
