The tatami looks great. I had no idea newspaper was used to insulate the floor. I remembered old folks in the countryside used to place newspaper under the mattress to keep the bed warm as I watched the video. The new room is coming together nicely. 😊
The new tatami mats really do make it look like a new house. And the grey curtains are beautiful. Can't wait to see what the newly painted, newly curtained room looks like when you have finished it. You are doing an amazing job so far. 😀.
You just unlocked a memory My grandad also made his house. It was a stilt house, made of wood (I still can smell it). It was common to polish the floor with coconut husk. Everything looked normal, unless you looked under the dining table, there was a hole on the floor, so we could see the dog or the hens running around and we feed them (against my grandad will 😅). Sadly, after he die, the house deteriorated even more. The wood was full of termites so my dad and his siblings decided to tear it down and build a new one, but with cement. You are lucky to be able to renovate your grandparents house, preserve the previous memories and make new ones. Thanks for making the videos and sharing with us. I hope you can enjoy your house for a long, long time.
@@totologOneJapanesemanVlog I know newspaper can be used to absorb humidity, so it works as an isolating material to protect the tatami and maybe prevent it from getting smelly.
I love the new fresh look with the new refurbished tatami mats. I would humbly recommend that you being so talented that you tackle the task of filling the gaps of the floor. You will have less humidity on the tatami mats and the house in general. Good job renovating the great traditional Japanese house! I love it. Every time you go to the renovated kitchen I am in awe how nice it looks and that you did it on your own. My admiration from Puerto Rico in the Caribbean- the other side of the planet!!!👍👍👍
The tatami looks wonderful. New curtains really finish that room. Nicely done!
