    very nice video. The flanger effect can also be simulated by 2 decks playing the same track and moving the pitch-fader on one deck slightly. We did this back in the day on turntables. I never thought about the inversion principle. Very cool.

  • @larrycoffey806
    @larrycoffey806 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    We "phased" in clubs in the 80s using double copies of records. Used a light + or - of the turn table pitch controls or a slight push (+) or pressure (-) on the record or turn table. Some creativity with the mixer cross fader made for some interesting effects in the day. I described phasing as a "space" effect - something you might hear in a Star Wars movie.

    I have a much better understanding of these effects, I am a guitar player and am just venturing into EDM production and DJing (🤷🏻‍♂️). I know this is a older video but I am learning a lot from them, thank you!

    There is a nice little trick regarding phasing. If you get a track to play alongside an instrumental version of that track the instruments cancel themselves out leaving behind just the vocals. It's how you can create acapellas. A couple of things to look out for though. Some tracks feature vocals that aren't dead in the centre of the sound spectrum, so results might not be as effective.Also when doing that, try to use wav files as opposed to mp3 as part of the signal is lost the more you compress a file!

    Phil, you are awesome. I really like how you put it. I understood it, although it needs practice in technique. An of course, knowing your tracks is essential. Anyway, after the basic course, I am pretty confident to play (trance) for my friends and cope with their feedback (at home). Wish I could tell you more :)

    hey i was wondering if you would suggest a serato or rekordbox based deck for beginners because i've heard they each have capabilities that the other do not possess. im considering getting one and as a beginner who's never played one of this before i would love to hear your opinion on it.
