If your AC not blowing cold air is occurring in your house (or air conditioner not cooling), the first thing you should check is make sure your breakers are both on.
Another common problem with your AC not cooling, is the safety switch. You may feel like the AC not cooling enough, and find that your safety switch is filled with water.
Another problem with your air conditioner not blowing cold air might be the capacitor. If the capacitor is faulty, then you will certainly see your air conditioner not cooling enough (or AC blowing warm air).
It can get pretty toasty as the AC blows hot, or if the air conditioner blowing warm air, so I hope this video helps you to get cool again.

I just bought a replacement capacitor...Cost me about 15 dollars. The fan spins fine, but the compressor isn't turning on...Hopefully it works! I unfortunately did not have a meter that reads capacitance to see if it was broken or not, so I just figured instead of getting a fifty dollar meter from my local Menards, id go ahead and order the capacitor and just try it out...wish me luck!

Yeah it’s hard to tell without being there but that could be the problem. Let me know how that turns out 👍

I just watched another video and it was not the capacitor. It was bug caught in the contactor keeping it from closing.

New air conditioners don't use freon. Am I right?

    • @mechanicsfornonmechanics8998
      @mechanicsfornonmechanics8998  หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah the word “Freon” can be (generally speaking) understood as the refrigerant in your AC system, but more technically, I believe Freon refers to R-22 (which is still in many people’s systems), or its predecessor R-12. The newer refrigerant R-410a is not technically, I am pretty sure, referred to as Freon.

@@mechanicsfornonmechanics8998 Freon is banned. It's going out of style and becoming rare and more expensive. That is why I had to upgrade my system to a new one. Freon has been banned in the U.S. since January 2020, prompting major changes in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry. You can still use an older air conditioning system that uses Freon, but maintaining and repairing one is growing increasingly expensive.

@@crand20033 That is true. The A/C industry is very expensive to the consumer.

@@mechanicsfornonmechanics8998 Well they have to come out so they want to make it worth their while but when it's just a small job (cleaning, or turning a screw) they fabricate a problem (or replace something that doesn't need to be replaced) so they can charge you more than they could have. Its an industry rife with scams so I want to learn how to do it myself.

I flipped off my breakers and my air conditioner and nothing happened. Are you sure I wasn't supposed to use my index finger or maybe throw the peace sign?
(Lol.. Jk - people are dumb enough these days where it's hard to discern from sarcasm - I felt I needed to include the fact I was joking lol)
Seriously though, my window AC is garbage. It's basically just like a $900 fan now. I'm in Arkansas and it's the middle of August so it's 100+ degrees everyday. But I work in a sawmill that's in an uninsulated metal building and we all work on the second floor where all the heat is trapped (ground level is mainly hydraulic tanks and wood chips on conveyor lines) and if I'm not mistaken, my supervisor told me they took the temperature in there last summer and it was supposedly like 150 or 160 degrees in there - like it's always 30+ degrees hotter inside than outside - when we walk outside for break, even the 110+ degrees feels like Antarctica just having a little breeze/fresh air...
Seems like you'd die at that temperature but even living in Arkansas and growing up playing football and working in the log woods (I supposedly had a heat stroke in the log woods a few years ago), farms, plants, factories, mills, etc. and being very familiar with stifling, oppressive heat and humidity, the heat in this sawmill in an uninsulated metal building with machines everywhere putting off heat and even vapor/steam from the wood and almost no airflow is something I had never felt.
It's a wholly different experience/feeling and there is a new sensation that you don't get from just regular heat - it's like the air in there is some kind of solid material and there's kind of a crushing and suffocating feeling... Almost everyone in the mill gets to work in cabs with ice cold ACs but I'm one of the about 3-4 people who not only have to stand all day but do it with no cab lol.. One of the other guys without a cab got so hot the other day, his eyes glazed over and he was all confused and they had to send him home - something they don't allow very often. But anytime any of my cab dwelling co-workers try to tease me or give me crap about anything, it's a pretty touchy subject - I'm like, "Get your lazy ass out of your comfy chair and out from the AC and get out here and help if you have a problem" lol...
But all of that to say, after being in the sawmill all week, just being at home where it's probably 95+ degrees in my house and having an AC to just stir up the air feels pleasant. Though I do fantasize all week about being able to sit under the AC on the weekend at home and it's a pretty big bummer lol... But air conditioning is one of those luxuries that I might be better off learning to live without - like if there's ever a situation where it's just not available for whatever reason I'd already be acclimated.

Crazy environment you find yourself in there. Thanks for sharing 👍 Yeah it’s all relative. 95 degrees sounds pretty brutal, unless you come out of an environment of 150! Hopefully you get to enjoy those air conditioned cabs soon enough🥶
