Can you build Raised Beds for under $15 each? Yes. Here in Arizona there is also the problem with termites, using cement board fixes that problem. I am using a cement board that is perfect for the job.

I never would have considered this material for a raised bed. Being in Prescott, AZ, we are close to the hot AZ sun and yet we get lots of rain and some snow. I’ll definitely consider this before making our next raised beds! Thanks for the idea!!
-Nick 😃👍
Thanks Nick, send me photos if you make some.
I really like your raised beds & they turned out great! The price is the biggest advantage for me since I'm retired & can't afford the ready made ones. I'm going to look for the supplies in my area & try it myself. They look easy enough for a 70 year old granny to put together. 👵🏼 Thank you and have a blessed evening.
I totally agree! You can do it. Send me photos when they are made.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az Ok I will if I remember. It will save while though. I’m in the middle of moving to the country & the raised beds will be for next spring growing season.
You precious other pea in the pod. I love you too. Been there. You do more than is humanly possible. Take a breath, we will certainly be here. God already has it all planned out. We just need to be quiet and listen (I have a problem with the quiet part 😂). I read today again… stop stressing, I’ll get you through this. Love, God ❤❤❤
Handy Joe did a Great Job sandi I never heard of wonder board thanks for letting me know always good ideas you and Joe have a safe evening
Hi Todd, we first used it when we made a bathroom shower down stairs in WY. Great stuff.
Something about being able to dig in dirt that's comforting for the soul....it's a great idea!
I agree, I love working with the soil.
Excellent project and you have 3 new raised beds to provide for your family!! Brava!!
Yes, thank you, I will do updates as the veggies grow.
Wow! This is nice. Joe did a great job. So did you too!!
Thanks Lisa.
Very nice raised beds. It looks nice. You got a lot done since you got there.
Hi John, trimmed those trees all up yesterday and working on the big garden behind the house now.
Great idea! I am looking forward to see how well they hold up. Glad you made it safely to Arizona and are settling back in. Happy gardening!👍❤️
Thank you. I am loving them. Will do updates. We are happy to be in AZ.
Are they still holding up?
Great idea. Could you elaborate on the components of Wonder board? My understanding is that it contains Portland cement. Portland cement is approx 30% fly ash which contains heavy metals that are toxic. Just a quick search on the internet and ran across a few articles. There are conflicting articles as well so wasn't sure about your thoughts and what you've found out.
I did not find anything that showed that the cement board would leach into the soil. It is like using cinder blocks as raised beds. Joe and I did say we should have bought a mask for him as he didn't bring one from WY.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az Thanks!
maybe line it with plastic sheet on the inside if you are worried about that
@@TheSateef Thanks for the suggestion. Boy this was an old comment of mine. I'm just sticking with cedar lumber. They're sitting in my garage and waiting for spring.
Really loved the way you decorated it and how it came out at the end. Thanks for the inspo!
Hi Hope, we really are loving them. The plants are growing, I'll do an update in a couple weeks.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az great! Would love to see how everything came out!
Smart idea. Thank you for sharing!
That is Great Sandy, I think it was a great deal too. I love how you arranged them and the rebar was a great Idea. This is going to be a great garden. I had never heard of Wonder Board but good to know. 💕NonnaGrace
Hello!!!! We used wonder board when we made out bathroom shower downstairs. It is amazing.
Those look great! May be a great way for me when I get to the islands. I don’t have a problem using cinderblocks, so I don’t see why this would be an issue!
The moisture is remaining where the wood would absorb some it and I like that also.
Great idea! Really loving this raised garden bed idea!
Us too! No moisture loss into the wood, I love them.
Welcome back to AZ.! Nice project, wish I had known about this before.
Thanks Dena, we are so excited about being back in AZ and all the projects. Well I'm excited, maybe Joe not so much. lol He is excited about golf. lol
I can’t wait to have a garden. You are giving me inspiration! Seeing your bird houses gave me an idea also, I think when I go to the fused glass Christmas ornaments class, I’m going to make a birdhouse also!
Awesome Lynne. I am working on more ornaments also.
Wow that's a great idea, now I'll be on the lookout for wonderboard. 🌱🥔
It is a great product and you can use it in a lot of ways.
Nice. Thanks for showing us how you do it.
Hi Anne, we are loving them.
Great idea, I love your videos, always so full of great information.
Tina, thank you so much.
Such a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
We love these raised beds and so do the plants.
Great deal Sandy.. I live the glass art
Hey Jason, thank you.
Awesome! I am gonna try them here in MN. Cheap and they should last forever!
Hi David. They were so fast to make. We love them.
Love You’re Idea! I live in Az. Thank You
Awesome! Thank you!
Wow...what a great idea 👍
Thank you so much 😊Mary, I love them.
That was fascinating! Thank you for showing the details. I’m still aiming for my big garden next year😃
Awesome. If you make some next summer send me photos.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az I will. I just told Shawn about it today.😁
I'm gonna try it out in Missouri. Thanks. Jim.
Thank you
This was Brilliant
We are loving them.
Sandi, what a neat idea! I would have never thought of using wonder or cement boards, how great is that? I tell ya, that's the neatest idea I've heard in a while. Might have to try this.
Thank you Linda, it is a fabulous product. Send me photos if you make some.
Very nice! 😊👍
Thank you
I may try that where I live too!
Charmaine, I am loving them. Send me photos if you do.
That's something I hadn't seem before using wonderboard. I do have one question though. In the pastvI had issues with soil migration out of the boxes via small spaces between the boards. So are those corners tight enough to keep water from washing soil out? Just curious. Most boxes have a 2x2 or 4x4 in each corner tp ensure everything is nice and tight.
It all looks great though. Looking forward to watching the progress of your garden. Hope the ginger does well for you.
Hahaha nice saw Joe 😅😅😅
Joe loves it when he gets new tools. lol
may i know if your cement board raised still intact? the L bracket, will it hold?
i wonder how long these lasted? i think i would use 2x4 wood corners for extra strength as i would not expect those L brackets to hold very long
Don't know if this would stand up to Michigan winters!
Carole, try making one and see. If you do, let me know.
This is great, but I live in Cornville Az., and we have so many critters who love to eat the roots and everything else. How are you going to keep the critters from eating everything. Thank you for sharing.
We really don't have issues. Last year I had a rabbit in the main garden but fenced it so it was fine then. I thought maybe cats would be a problem but so far so good.
Please let me know if any Toxic will release from Wonder Board
Welll how have they help up
It has been two years now how are they holding up I am thinking about building some
They are just like new. Amazing.
Hi great idea anyone one here from Australia, that would know what this stuff is called in Australia. Cheers
Bit late but it's cement sheeting. James Hardie boards/sheets, available at Bunnings
where you getting cement board that cheap?
bad idea cutting hardieboard/wonderboard with a saw like that.... Cutting fibre cement board without proper dust controls can generate high levels of silica-containing dust. Breathing in this fine dust can cause a serious lung disease called silicosis, which is characterized by scarring and thickening of the lungs, and can result in death.
Joe should be using a mask 😷 too. That dust can’t be healthy.
I used 2 old flat packed book shelves.
Popped out the back and shelves and 2 instant raised beds. They won’t last because of the cheap wood but they’ll do at least another year
Is it durable will it break if something falls on it like heavy branch
I haven't had anything fall on it but so far they have worked great.
