    This is the 3rd tutorial I've seen & once again u came through. Before when I used the Armour Etch, I put it on the glass and let it sit for 3-4 minutes. However, by working it with a brush for that time, my etching was more clean and visible. THANK YOU!

      I would try it for 10-15 minutes. It's frustrating that the bottle says 1-3 minutes. My 15 minute etches come out clean!

    Hi it’s Sharon here , I bought a brother scan and cut about 10 months ago , what a big mistake . It was brand new , and cut great for a few months but now it just chews everything up , I can’t cut anything with it , I’ve started having to use my deep blade to cut anything but that still isn’t great , I wish I had got a cricut, watching this tutorial had made me want it so much more , even the program on your computer looks easier to use , thank you for sharing x

    I want todo two windows that are about 70 inches long, and about 10 inches wide. I won’t be able to rinse under running water. Can I wipe the armor etch off with a disposable cloth then wipe off excess with a wet cloth? Do you think I will need two bottles to do both windows? Can I use a 2 inch regular house paint brush?

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean an actual window in your home? Maybe look into the type of glass to see if that can be done. Etching cream does not work on all kinds of glass. I have a note about it here. jennifermaker.com/etched-casserole-dish/

      Funny you should post this. The glass IS from IKEA and part of a Billy bookcase cabinet I purchased. They didn’t have to doors that are half wood/half glass so I had to go with all glass. I think what I will do is get the spray on frosted glass coating. Less hassle and no water needed for clean up. I still plan to use my Cricut to cut a reverse stencil (cover up the part. I want clear). Thanks for the information.

    • @signsofawesomeronaldkruege7986
      @signsofawesomeronaldkruege7986 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest that the Image be Mirrored and put on the underside of a plate so that the top surface of the plate would remain smooth and would be easier to wash and keep clean. Food seems to stick to rough surfaces more. I would think that using a dishwasher would be awesome for etched glass.

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, as long as it is not made from borosilicate. Dishes made of Borosilicate WILL NOT WORK. Dishes from Ikea and some other brands of dishes may be made of borosilicate glass, therefore, they will not work. Borosilicate glass is a tougher type of glass. If you see a note that your dish is very scratch and impact resistant to withstand rapid temperature changes, it’s possible it may not work to etch correctly. Please check the etching cream manufacturer’s website for more information. 💜

    If you rinse with hot water, the vinyl will peel away super easy! Also, make sure not to get ANY etching cream outside your vinyl template... it will etch immediately when it touches the glass... so you could tape the exposed edges off with blue painters tape if you want to be safe and not sorry. I have etched many things and once in a while I make a boo boo!

    • @azadehpourshams4808
      @azadehpourshams4808 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it any way to fix the booboo?

    • @rocketmobile
      @rocketmobile 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@azadehpourshams4808 , no, you can't remove it, it's like engraved to the glass (and in a way IT IS still engraving, but rather using the engraving tool and *scratch* the surface in this case it's done with chemical reaction to the glass - a *scratch* in a micro way, same thing, different technique)
      But, you can use your imagination and artistic skills and mask the "boo boo" with adding more "boo boo's" and make it look like it's done on purpose. It all depends on how big the boo boo is, some defects can be turned into piece of art.

    Love learning from you. You are so calming & you make me feel like I *can* do anything!
    Q: Does the quality of the brush you use to apply the etching cream matter? I picked up an inexpensive set of 5 at a local craft store that say they are made with 'soft natural bristles'. I'm hoping they will work for this process.
    Also related to the brushes; do you reuse them & if yes, how many times? My guess would be to use them until the bristles start adhering to your project. Well, hopefully before they make a mess of things anyway.

I was thinking of using this etching cream to make them into a frosted look all over the outside of the glass. Many thanks Jennifer! I stumbled accross your tutorial and thought I'd give it a try after some failed attempts at etching with this product. No where on the instructions do they say to continuely brush the product on for 3 full minutes. Armour Etch basically instructs you to glob it on and leave it for 1 to 3 minutes which left me with a patchy sloppy mess. Your method left perfect clear crisp writing on my bottles ( I etched 12) and they all came out perfect!! Just a note I used some removable vinyl that I had on hand (didn't like the color) and it worked great.

    First, I LOVE the idea of the illuminated base! I’ll be ordering some.
    I make custom bride and groom champagne glasses for wedding shower gifts. Here are two tips that I’ve learned over my many years of making them:
    1. Small scrap vinyl pieces are perfect for this! It doesn’t matter what color the vinyl is.
    2. If you’re making these to sell, recommend to customers that they hand wash with only soap and water, as the etching does wear off over time. Dishwashing speeds up that process by a lot!

      The etching is abrasive process, using chemicals, it's like engraving on a micro way, but not too deep, so I can't see how a etched glass can wear off, unless you polish the etched area, than YES, it may looked like clear glass again, but to do this, you need to apply a lot of force and rubbing on you glasses while washing them.

    Some stencil vinyl brands are much thinner, but they're no good for small intricate cutting. For larger, or cutting without much fine detail, it works great. Here's an example (from the UK): www.gmcrafts.co.uk/product/paint-masking-stencil-vinyl-305mm-x-1m/

      Hi Tina if you are in England you get a pack of 4 clear coasters from the pound shop (just take the four bobbles of the back.) if you are in America I believe you get then from the Dollar store, walmart ect hope this helps xx

    one thing i learned about this etching cream is it is so strong that not only the cream itself can etch but also its fumes. ones the fumes (which is not visible) comes in contact with the glass, it will instantly eat away. so its better to turn off any fan that can blow the fumes on the side of the vinyl where you applied the cream.

    I got straight, crisp lines, no bleeding in my design, but it looks very uneven with some areas lighter than others. I used a sponge brush on mine with just a few dabs of armour etch on a 2”w x 3”t design. It’s a champagne flute. Anybody have any ideas on what I did wrong?
    Thanks.

    Scrape the armor edge back into the container when you're done. That's why it doesn't matter if you go up a lot on because you're not wasting it if you scrape it back into the thing.

      Armor Etch does not say to move around in the instructions. I just visited their website because I just put it on and walk away and wondered if there were new instructions. They don't have anything new, it says to put on a layer thick enough to hide the design, wash after etching is done.

    Hello Jennifer!! I’m a new subscriber and I alway joined your fb group. I’m new to the etching and wanted to know if this is dishwasher safe? Also, I’ve seen videos where ppl use this on slate coasters and it works very well. Do you have to seal it? Thank you!!

    • @JenniferMaker

      You do not have to seal it and it is dishwasher safe. The armour etch actually melts some of the glass so it is permanent.

    Much easier than my mom and I did it when I was a kid 25-30 years ago. We traced an image onto contact paper with carbon sheets then cut out the area we wanted etched. My favorite piece waste little mermaid on a mirror for the neighbor girls bday.

    I made lights like that but I was engraving my glass with a dremel, and making wooden bases and wiring up the LEDS myself. Looked great, and more hand-crafted rather than store bought, but I am going to try using my Cricut and etching cream now
