    From 13 000 feet, 23 highly skilled wingsuit pilots take to the sky. Once a year, team ‘Need for Speed’ meets up, united by a common passion for human flight. They are an international group of skydivers from all over the world.
    These are not full time sponsored athletes; they are everyday people, with normal lives, and normal jobs. They don’t have a hunger for the extreme or a death wish: they simply love to fly, and all share a passion for the same amazing sport.
    Some of the most technically skilled wingsuit pilots in the world, they’re obsessed with clean flying technique, using their suits as an extension of their bodies to perform choreographed displays that appear to be a mixture of flight and aerial ballet, with the suits they fly allowing them to perform at unprecedented levels of accuracy in a perfect union of skill and design.
    Phoenix-Fly, the world's most innovative leader in wingsuit design, has its roots way back in 1998. The company is known for making cutting edge wingsuits that focus on maneuverability, performance and safety.
    In design, the goal is to follow the shape of the human body as closely as possible.
    A wing designed with the cleanest shape possible, minimizing drag, and maximizing lift and control. This allows every small input made by the pilot to be translated to wing, resulting in the most pure and clean form of flying possible. Wherever the body wants to go, the suit takes it.
    Subtle manipulation of the relative wind through the wings, can make the pilot change angle, speed and direction at will. The sky is transformed into a playground, where the only limit is your imagination…

    Jarno!! I'm assuming you did the filming on this project. I'm so impressed with the wing-suit maneuvers, but the filming was just as impressive. It's one thing to get these wing-suit pilots to do this incredible choreography but to capture it on film the way you did turns the whole project into a Work of Art!! Awesome!!

      Jarno Cordia How many hours and jumps of training did the team clock on the first year? The coordination is so good. I keep coming back to this video over and over again. :)

    • @mccordia
      @mccordia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually no training at all, aside from everyones individual flying back home.
      The team met on the dropzone, and then went right into these jumps. So every 'training' jump is in the final product you see...

      We tried that a bit at the first Project Blue Sky in 2015. You are right, it is hard, but certainly not impossible. Slightly safer and "easier" to do with the original group of just 8 of us, you can see it here: th-cam.com/video/eUHbqNp3oAw/w-d-xo.htmlm50s

      I'm not sure how to explain my version, but I kinda ment something like flying outwards and back inwards, switching positions and such in sync with each other. Could possibly be done with 4 or 5, having a few stay in place to be used as a point of reference until it becomes their turn and perhaps ending it by all moving outwards or something.

    Very impressive. How much more time do the wing suits give you in the air? What a good idea, what fun. Did you invent them? When were they first used? How long have you all been doing this? often? Do you have a website? Do you announce ahead of time when you are going to do this? You could get much publicity. Will you do it again in Sebastian?

    • @mccordia
      @mccordia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wingsuits double to triple the time in the air, and add a glide of around 2:1 to 3:1 on what we're doing.
      I did not invent them, but have been lucky enough to be involved in assisting with testing and design over the years.
      I keep an active log on what Im doing at facebook.com/mccordia/ if you want to see where we are flying next...
