Only in Britain would you hear the words "yeah, but it would be a good funeral, he's a great lad" spoken by a friend talking about their mate who just had a lucky escape after falling onto a track in a drunken state. Love that driver's attitude to life, wish more people shared his view.
someone who has worked for Network rail as a signal engineer i saw people get hit and the aftermath.... you never hear about the drivers they are the worst effected think about others when you think about walking across the line
think it was explained best on The Tube (2002) when they explained in great depth. you never consider the driver can feel the bump as they drive over a human being, with no control. Cant imagine first hand
If they just didn't let people on the trains when they were pissed, surely they wouldn't have this problem. But I guess they put up with it because it's good revenue. Not really fair to other passengers though.
Profit is probadly one reason, but drunk driving is illegal the drunks might Need someone to drive them. Public Transit Staff really provide a vital social service gettin these buggers home safely, and I wish they wouldnt have to.
@@oskarjarlemark302: Indeed, better to have them on trains/buses (where for the most part, they’re only a danger to themselves) than on the roads, where they’re likely to harm other people. Of course, it would be better for people not to get that drunk in the first place (and I think you can get rejected if you’re too drunk) but that’s probably too much to expect! I’d even argue that even assuming they pay their fares, they’re still a overall loss in dealing with, taking into account the delays they cause and all...

Jeeez. I think maybe Netwank Rail should change their policy on refunds where the weather has been the major contributing cause. Yes, obviously, drains should be cleared BEFORE flooding becomes an issue, but as the maintenance workers explained, it's often someone else's blockages that are the true problem. I'd imagine that the root cause is often found to be external to the railroad's responsibilities.
(Assuming this isn’t a sarcastic comment!) How would you actually ban it though? The ale trail is pretty much indistinguishable from someone deciding to take trains between stations and explore the local area. Maybe a reasonable compromise is to refuse travel the moment you start looking like a risk (like the guy who went on the tracks) and make sure they stay off railway property...
About tresspassers: If they are adult, they know the dangers. If they are kids, only the parents are to blame. Why spend so much money on idiots and drunks? Let them do whatever they want, it's nobody's fault but their own (or their parents). Nobody should have to pay tax or astronomical amounts for a train ticket to protect idiots. The only thing is that it's very traumatic for the drivers and the people who have to scrape guts of the rails... that's life with idiots, I guess.
Declan Cairns No sane person wants to see anyone die but commonsense must prevail. Even as a kid I knew not to play on the railways. Nothing to do with being goody goody. People are not that stupid so as not to know the dangers, even at 15. Why build vast fences to keep them out. The tragic part is their own stupidity. The old message rings true. Don`t go on the lines. Simple.
Mum works nights, doesn't see her kid.during the day. Kid gets caught playing chicken with cars, trespassing a week ago on the tracks, gets killed on the tracks. Anyone see a connection?
Summer madness. Seems like most people are interested in the trains, those who reply, but I haven't seen too much about the imbeciles that make up the daily torture for those going about doing their jobs. I love a beer as much as the next guy, but a dangerous pub crawl that puts lives at risk seems over the top. I suppose that is how the world see the UK now. Just drunken yobs. Pity, I love(d) the place
Have no sympathy with anyone who gets hit by a train. My sympathy goes to the poor driver and the poor sods who have to collect all the bits. And also to the passengers whose lives are put on hold because of someone's selfishness.
If I was the train company, I'd bill the council for the delays caused by flooding due to the drains not being properly maintained

Exactly!
Saw that information desk guy and his brother eidris today at Leeds train station.
I like Jason. He has a marvelous outlook on life. If everybody was like Jason, we wouldn't have to deal with so much crap.
Yeah I love Jason I wish all train drivers were like him
Yeah but we would all look and be the same

Does anyone else come back to this series every few months? I can't seem to get enough of it.
The whole series is beautifully shot, honestly edited and comes across as thoroughly genuine. This episode in particular was very heart-wrenching.
The British always make the best documentaries.
McCall friend, is televised series many episodes
@@IncredulousIndividual do you mean Friends?
Yes, so many on YT.
that train driver is Karl Pilkington: Railway version!
"All i need is some popcorn" 😂
With poop in it
Big shout to the BTP who do a fantastic job under very challenging circumstances- you’re so professional 😃👌👌👏👏👏❤️
The man in the info booth helped me when I went to see my nana.
Bless the members of staff. Having to deal with shite customers!
Really enjoyed this series. Who would have thought a programme about railways could be so good!?
Watching in 2020 and can't ever imagine a train that packed ever again 🙁
It happens I got on one to derby 3 weeks ago it was rammed as they only put 2 carriages on it was like sardines in a can
I work at Wakefield Westgate station. It really is amazing how stupid people (especially to London ) can be.
My close friend was hit by a train. Rest his soul 😭
Funnily enough I saw Jason yesterday at Manchester Piccadilly and Preston (he'd got on the train I got between the two, at least I believe he did).
A very humorous fellow that Jason
this is a normal documentory for people but for me, I remember some of these people, I remember this summer,
33:00 not all drunk people are horrible, this one just makes me smile :D
Wow, the old Manchester Victoria. Not a nice sight but a bit of nostalgia.
Amazing footage.
Most fascinating.
Thanks for uploading this.
Bless that train operator!
I travelled to and from Leeds station recently and compared to the horror stories painted by some, there were no problems with my journeys.
Great show thank you for upload narrated by Lewis !!
Neville you mean

Certainly Yorkshire, I can't be more specific than that though

West Yorkshire by the sound of it. 'On side a train' is definitely a west Yorkshire way of talking

Christ these programmes make me ashamed to be a train commuter sometimes haha. Just tossers everywhere thinking they should be a priority.
Doing a great job. Cheers!
i sort of hope we get a nice episode of some of britains preserved lines in this series :)
The black and white clip in the intro of two guys crossing the tracks where one fell was in Melbourne Australia, not in the UK.
+Doug Borrett Who cares? Arcades ambo.
Doug Borrett How would you know if this is filmed in England
Many thanks for the re-upload. You have done a great job!
Great video Paul & Rebecca. Exceptional still shots of the bottom of the vent shafts. Keep them coming.

14:33 in America you get your self a heavy ticket or you could be arrested for being on the train track
john Sky100 no
Yeah, that shocked me.
A hundred years ago, you could be shot. People don't know how soft they have it today.
Great programme! :)
Why do we pay out compensation for delays caused by weather? No wonder fares are so high
Such a hard job having to break such tragic news to a parent that their child has died. Chokes me up just typing about it.
i teared up seeing it. not even an adult....
this is great.
did you see the prankster walking up the down escalator?

pete5668 exactly
I think that some of the railways look like this in october (a.k.a east coast)! even the prices are extortionate!
fantastic vid Spent many years at KX in the 60s train spotting
I suppose the people who keep trespassing no matter how often they get told, eventually get killed and only *that* stops them.
Or fined

When people get hit, thats natural selection at work. Those teens deserve Darwin awards.

Manchester Victoria station looks so much better since this was filmed, no wonder some people I know refer to it as the "St Pancras of the north"

Josh Rowlands she wants to try the underground at rush hour
After using Central line in the rush hour this train would feel empty
