It is quite a town and not just a beach and boardwalk place as this video has shown. There are some wonderful neighborhoods and lots of history. Before New Jeesey became a state of suburbs, Asbury's downtown was a great shopping destination all year. These days the restaurants and music clubs bring visitors to the shore. Amazing citizens from every part of the town give a vitality that any tourist will appreciate.

Very true. I plan on revisiting at some point soon and would love your input to show the parts that are not as well known as well as do a deep dive into the history of the town to post on my Instagram. Would love some pointers

@@cityscape_worldview You might check out the Asbury Park Historical Society and the Asbury Park Museum. The museum, as yet, does not have a brick and mortar location but puts on exhibits in the Berkeley Carteret Hotel near the boardwalk. One of their latest exhibits highlighted segregated days in the town and it was so successful that it transferred up to Monmouth University in Long Branch. Prior to the early seventies, Springwood Avenue was a busy shopping district in the southwest section of the city. It was kind of a continuation of the shopping district on Cookman Avenue in the southeast part of town which leads up to the boardwalk. On Springwood Avenue, up until the sixties, there were nightclubs that featured African American entertainers who would not, in those days, be booked onto the boardwalk halls or the East side venues. They were big names like Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and others. One of the old nightclubs, The Turf, still stands minus a good part of the roof. There is a fundraising movement to repair the building and musicians stage concerts and jam sessions there during the warmer months. Of course, in the old days, when Louis, Ella and Billie performed in the West side clubs, the denizens from Asbury's east side did not hesitate to go see them! So many of the beautiful historic buildings near the boardwalk have been torn town--hotels, movie theaters built in the Moorish Art Deco style, charming bungalows, amusement buildings for ferris wheels and carousels. A nice drive by: Deal Lake Drive at the northeast end of town. You'll pass the Santander Apartment building, one of the few remaining structures in town, built in the Moorish Art Deco style. It is now a condominium. Asbury's great treasure has always been a citizenry that adores the town and its history.

    Asbury has really changed.
Born and raised there as well as Neptune.
    My father still lives there.
I know all those streets well.
