I feel like you can shop pretty much anywhere, regardless of age as long as you cover yourself appropriately. You shouldn’t shame older women for shopping at Forever 21 or Ross in the Juniors department or etc. just because of their age. You can find nice some clothes and/or layering pieces anywhere. A simple blouse from Forever 21 can be paired with a nice blazer from a different store or etc.
Fashion Fun me too I dress anywhere but my key I know my shape if not sure go to fitting room and see how it fits. As older I get my experiences rises so I can't destroy my style just because I have to shop all these shop that don't appeal to my style
You're right! But I think she's talking more to grown women who buy all of their clothes from places like Forever 21 because that's just where they've always shopped. She's trying to get women to elevate their style. Sure, if you go into Forever 21 and know what to look for, you can find pieces that work for nearly anyone's wardrobe needs. The problem is that many women don't know what to look for and might just be mindlessly buying things in a daze that catch their eye (no hate, we've all done it).
THANK YOU for addressing the fact that people DO need to dress their age to look nice. A more edgy or youthful personal style doesn't necessarily mean you cant dress that way and have to switch to dowdy because of your age, it just means you have to adapt to stores and styling that make clothes that better suit the needs of an aging body or bodies that have changed INEVITABLY from having children...none of us normal people get out of THAT unchanged. lol
Nice video! I agree with everything. However, can I just comment something about your outfit in this video? I think your blouse doesn't seem of good quality and also this type of blouse don't need a necklace in my opinion.
It's the Coco Chanel rule- take one accessory off before you leave the house 👌🏼 I totally agree with you- especially with the undergarments. I'm a 32F so if I can find a proper fitting bra, so can everyone. Wearing the right foundation pieces literally takes 5 pounds off and make you look put together 👍🏼
I actually love your outfit here. That colour blue and necklace ❤️ Only thing I don’t like is the rips in the jeans but that’s just my personal preference.
I'm afraid I do not agree with you on the 'dress for your age' comment. I am 63 and am never inappropriately dressed. I wear what I feel suits me and see no harm in some fashion pieces added into a look, regardless of age. I buy in the same places as my daughter who is in her thirties, but I only wear what suits me, and the fact that I am a small size makes it easy. I feel the same about people saying you cannot wear long hair or black eyeliner etc at this age. I wear it, and it suits me, and I like classic basic clothes which can also be worn with the odd fashion item, and I get complimented all the time. So my view is, age has nothing to do with it - it all depends how you look and what suits you REGARDLESS of age. For example, I would never ever wear the jeans you have on in this video, but then I would not wear them if I was young either, it is all a matter of taste and knowing what you look good in! Age has zero to do with it.
Vivella Holy shit you do not look your age! You look awesome. (Which is not to say 63 can't look awesome! But yeah, you look a lot younger.) On the dressing one's age thing I think it has more to do with, are you the same shape as you were? Has your hair, your face, yr general vibe changed? What suits your lifestyle? I'm 35 and can still fit things I bought 17 yrs ago, but I wear them totally differently now that I know my style better. But I'm not about to retire into middle aged sobriety. To hell with that. Someone like Daphne Guinness still suits that edgy monochrome style that she wears so well. She found a look she totally reigns in. She looks like an empress. Others are better exploring a few different looks. But above all we should enjoy what we wear.
I totally agree. I am 70 years old. I still wear jeans and would buy something at Forever 21 if I felt it would be appropriate. In fact some of their blazers and shoes are awesome. I do also agree that the jeans that you are wearing,Lauren, are inappropriate at any age and the hat doesn’t help. Totally unprofessional.
I agree with you all! I am 40 but have been told I look 30-32. I love fashion so much I wear clothing from all brands whether they are geared toward younger women or older women. It is about style preferences and not necessarily age. I can sometimes even wear what my 18 year old daughter wears and it's all good :)
I see all of the negative comments in this video. My take on her outfit is fitting to the topic. My guess is that the top & pants were deliberately chosen to prove her point about style mistakes. Lauren usually wears something related to the topic of the video she discusses and shares on youtube. (for FREE, mind you), so let's not be too critical.
I'm over 40 and still love forever 21, I know that I shouldn't wear everything in there but there are some really nice pieces you can find that are very age appropriate, fun and cute.
I love your blue top with the black distressed jeans! I may have ditched the necklace with that particular neckline, but I still think you look super cute. Thought I'd say so since I saw a few comments with less than nice things to say about your outfit. I love your edgy style!
Not everybody that's 40 .looks 40 ! Thank you very much and I'm not saying dress like a hooch either but I'm 42 have a 25 year old son . People tell me I look like his sister !!!
Living Thedream she normally dresses well but she loves that pair of ripped up pants which I abhor. They make my eyes twitch when I see them so I now actively try to ignore them but the combo with the tight top made that a bit hard this week. She's allowed bad day too so don't be hard on her. I betchu she's out there acing the style game at least 330 days of the year which is an A+ damn it!
Oh, so totally agree with the tight clothes rule. Why, oh why do the heavier girls, or even regular girls wear ridiculously tight jeans and leggings? The stuffed sausage look does not make anyone look thinner. About your new bra company....there are all sorts of beautiful padded, lacy bras for small sizes. The DD and up is where companies need to make some attractive, supportive, and comfortable bras! This is a real struggle.
sometimes it's not about size, but about body type, I get muffin tops from wearing low cut jeans even though I weigh 130 pounds and I'm 5'6, the reason is my hips are rather long and square-ish so the issue is not the size of my garments
RM M hi, I'm another person with 'long hips'. Something I've learned to do if I want low cut is to buy jeans that are a little too long in the leg the get out a sewing kit and lower the crotch a little, no more than an inch to avoid misshaped jeans (it's a surprisingly simple fix). This will steal length from the legs and allow room for the hips to sit where they should without giving you a wedgie or muffin top. A tailor should be able to make the adjustment if you are not inclined to do it yourself.
Fashion question! I always hear fashion tips based on people's bodyshape and what they want to communicate to people around them, but do stylists also take into account the client's face? I think I have sort of a babyface. Would that matter to a stylist?
It would to a good one... I personally believe the face is very important. I have a much more feminine body than face, and I always think I look best when dressing to make my body match my face and not the other way around. But judging by how many poorly dressed celebrities there are, not all stylists are very good :/
I have a hard time accepting that you’re a fashion guru when you wear unflattering clothes and over accessorize. I’m not trying to be mean. But I’ve watched several of your videos and cannot honestly say that your “style” is flattering to you. You also need a good hair stylist as your hair looks unflattering and matte on camera. There are so many people who give fashion and style advice - your channel is not one I would subscribe to.
It looks like all your advice is geared toward the work life of people the most when you tell people to dress for their ages. what about the other aspect of their lives?
Usually love and agree with Lauren but her look (especially this video) is not looking great. The ripped jeans, to tight tops, and horrid hat is not a good look for anyone. Also she is becoming a member of the world's jeans brigade (which already has way too many members) - lets all stop with relying on jeans for every outfit - jeans a couple times a month - not daily people!
The way that you always sit in that chair without moving your legs looks like you are in a wheelchair with paralysis from the waist down. Not cute girlfriend.

Very well said - dressing in style depends on how you look in a particular style NOT YOUR AGE
I totally agree. I am 70 years old. I still wear jeans and would buy something at Forever 21 if I felt it would be appropriate. In fact some of their blazers and shoes are awesome. I mean if you are under 13 you shouldn't be wearing club outfits so age does have something to do with it
I see all of the negative comments in this video. My take on her outfit is fitting to the topic. My guess is that the top & pants were deliberately chosen to prove her point about style mistakes. Hey! Lauren can you please suggest some outfit ideas for a curvy body?
Stay tuned for my next style series :)
I'm over 40 and still love forever 21, I know that I shouldn't wear everything in there but there are some really nice pieces you can find that are very age appropriate, fun and cute.
Patrice Thomas do it Patrice. Also, Goodwill has some good finds.
I love your blue top with the black distressed jeans! I may have ditched the necklace with that particular neckline, but I still think you look super cute. Thought I'd say so since I saw a few comments with less than nice things to say about your outfit. I love your edgy style!
Tell iris she is wearing too many accessories I dare ya,I love that woman👍🏻😉
Not everybody that's 40 .looks 40 ! Thank you very much and I'm not saying dress like a hooch either but I'm 42 have a 25 year old son . People tell me I look like his sister !!!
I actually love the top you are wearing, the colour of the top, and necklace but I can’t stand ripped jeans.
How can you give style tips when you are dressed like that??
Living Thedream I agree. That necklace and jeans 😱❎❎❎
Living Thedream she normally dresses well but she loves that pair of ripped up pants which I abhor. They make my eyes twitch when I see them so I now actively try to ignore them but the combo with the tight top made that a bit hard this week. She's allowed bad day too so don't be hard on her. I was just thinking that
i thought she was going to point her outfit out as a "style mistake" in the video....usually love her outfits though
Because that's her own personal style and we all have different preferences.
Oh, so totally agree with the tight clothes rule. Why, oh why do the heavier girls, or even regular girls wear ridiculously tight jeans and leggings? The stuffed sausage look does not make anyone look thinner.

I agree with you completely about dressing your age!!!
I was taught that it was good to be forgiving :P
Your absolutely right
How do you figure out what your style is?
sometimes it's not about size, but about body type, I get muffin tops from wearing low cut jeans even though I weigh 130 pounds and I'm 5'6, the reason is my hips are rather long and square-ish so the issue is not the size of my garments

Ecause me lauren about the first mistake. Did you look at your belly in the mirror before you start shooting

Great question, adding to my list x
You're so right ;)
What about women who try to walk in high heels but can't?
I have a hard time accepting that you’re a fashion guru when you wear unflattering clothes and over accessorize. I’m not trying to be mean. But I’ve watched several of your videos and cannot honestly say that your “style” is flattering to you.

I like your videos but it seems that you don’t do many videos for curvy women....
I can't wait til you lose that hat . Your so pretty
i totally get what you're doing - you're being ironic by dressing like early 2000's Britney Spears.
very smart ;)
It looks like all your advice is geared toward the work life of people the most when you tell people to dress for their ages. what about the other aspect of their lives?
I feel like she is trolling is in this outfit lol... This can’t be real!!!
Bad jeans Lauren
Bad hat Lauren
Bad top Lauren
I think it's too small for her head
Love the top and the hat but the jeans 👖 no
Love the hat ❤️
👍👍👍
Over spill .. Hilarious

Sorry I did not like your style today☹️ I couldn’t Focus on the video and listening to you☹️
Learn to speak well who can take you seriously when you JAM Man. Check your style Man
The way that you always sit in that chair without moving your legs looks like you are in a wheelchair with paralysis from the waist down. Not cute girlfriend.
Look who's talking. lol
It depends on how you look, I’m going to be 40 years old and I rock forever 21 better than some 21 year olds and younger! 😌 🙌🏼
Esther Beato DeGama- well you look really young for your age. I'm 41 and I can't get away it.
Goals 👏🏻
As she said: it's about style. You may look great in a 20 year old clothes but your style will not the best. Style can be synonym with elegance.
