This year he's participating to the ESC with the song Brividi, together with young singer Blanco and I wish he will do well. He was raised by his mother and he's very very fond of her they have a strong relationship and she used to be his manager.. The line in arabic is from an egyptian pop song very famous when he was a child that his father used to play in the car stereo when we went to visit him as a child and the line "drinking champagne during Ramadan" his just a metaphor to say his father was misbehaving. This is the song that made Mahmood win his first Sanremo in 2019! He came second in ESC 2019 and lemme say that as much as I loved Duncan Lawrence’s song, we were ROBBED!!! Mahmood literally stole many foreign people’s hearts that year and many still follow him now. I was so bummed when he lost, I was enraged because everyone recognized the quality of this song 😂 his sound would slay in the USA (and tbh he would get better recognition than he does in Italy) because he mixes in it his Egyptian heritage, his father is Egyptian (his full name is Alessandro Mahmoud) and this song is about their difficult relationship (he says that he only called him for money, “Soldi” means money cause his mother was well off).
