I've not heard this song by the composer until today. Of course, Marty Balin and that piano arrangement just rings my bells. Especially when listening to it on a warm hot beach with lots of pretty girls. Thank you, Jessie.
what an interesting study. All the basic elements of the popular version are here. It's obvious he built this song from the foundation up. It wouldn't be anything but pop without this structure. However, the production quality added to the Starship version takes this to a whole new level. Great songs need a strong backbone and then some polish. Without either, you are left with building blocks, but not the masterpiece.
To me, this is the very good original that Marty Balin made great with his keen commercial instincts, that elevate this basic demo to a great hit record. Marty's version is just prettier and more heartfelt. But Jesse Barish wrote a great song.
Jesse. Another favorite. So special. Yiu sound so good.
Wow! Here's the man who wrote one of my favorite songs. I'm trying to learn it myself. Thank you!
R.I.P. Marty, one of the greats.
This is the best from Barish. Thank you. I've been searching.....

Great 👍
So much more depth to his version, to me.
Suzanne Stokes I’ve always slightly preferred Jesse’s version to Marty’s-but they are both beautiful.

Interesting to hear a different take but I'll stick with Marty Balin and JS. Their instrumentation takes it to another level.
Not necessary at end...haha..
