The fact they kept him out there for 4 hours, he was IN the construction zone, and that they didn't arrest the construction workers immediately points clearly to a cover up and the workers innocence. If they are innocent im sure they will sue and win a big settlement. They should probably sue the cop personally as he was not acting in an official capacity and should be held accountable for their lost wages, lawyer fees etc due to his falsification of a crime, in his "Unofficial" capacity.

The drunk cop assaults these guys, never gets charged for anything, and St Louis county charges the road workers who were attacked? This cop and whatever superiors who failed to charge him should be fired and prosecuted themselves. I hope the prosecutors throw the charges against the road workers out once they look at the facts surrounding this case. This wouldnt be the first time the county wrongfully charged people for crimes they didnt commit. They did this crap to me before too. I received a letter saying I had to appear in court for resisting arrest. Too bad I was never arrested, nor was their any record of any arrests. A cop cursed me out during a traffic stop, I cursed him back, and so he filed bogus charges against me a day later. I never had to argue anything when I got to court, the prosecutor stated there was nothing to substantiate the officer's claims and he was throwing the charges out. What's really alarming is that this cop's superiors approved of these charges against those road workers, knowing very well they were a lie. I stand behind my original statements, the cop and his superiors who attempted to cover this up should be charged and prosecuted. Its even more alarming this happened right near my home.

Oh my word! The Officers made the guy sober up, then retaliated against the workers in the event they filed a complaint. Lot of work involved to arrest two guys who are making crap money, only to set them up for life financially. In every state in the union, the construction zone workers are right. The safety of the area is their responsibility. Even had the Officer not been off duty, he would have heard the broadcast about the blockage and emergency vehicles not being able to get thru. Or can with extreme caution, as the site manager wishes. The fact the off duty officer intentionally pulled over into the work zone, exited his vehicle, approached the workers, and ultimately threw a punch negates all the retaliation charges. My advice is for the community to show their outrage. Demand accountability, transparency, truthfulness. If the Chief Law Enforcement Official in this county does not right this wrong, vote them out. Body cam? Reports? All sealed? Go to a federal judge and demand it be unsealed, or examined en camera

Those construction workers made a fatal mistake. As soon as the motorist identified himself as an off duty cop the phones should have come out and started recording, even if it’s only audio you at least have irrefutable evidence of what transpired. Right now as it stands it is the cops word against the workers word and we all know who the courts believe in those cases!
Whenever your dealing with law enforcement of ANY level, record your interactions, it’s the only record the court will believe if a dispute over events occur! Protect yourselves people because law enforcement doesn’t!

When you say it's not dangerous to be a cop, think about how you would feel stopping a vehicle in the middle of the night on the side of a rather quiet highway, and having to walk up on that vehicle with the windows rolled up - 1/2 the time windows tinted darker to there is no way you can see anyone or anything that is happening in the vehicle. You don't know if it's a nun driving her fellow sister to another town to attend church in the morning, or if it's 2 drug dealers with a woman tied up and gagged in the back seat. So yeah, being a cop can be and often is a very high risk and dangerous job. With that said - THESE COPS, THE RECKLESS DRIVER OFF DUTY COP, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND THE JUDGE ARE COMPLETE A**HOLES !! PERIOD. They all should be fired, the DA should be relived of his office and the judge should be under review by the state board. This whole story is utter B**S***T !! So, rather than trying to lump all police together into the same bucket, direct your outrage correctly at these guys in this case. Inexcusable that anyone, much less a cop (on or off duty) would intrude into a marked work zone. Worse still that it seems there is a cover up by the police. Intruding into work zones is not something to be taken lightly, people literally die that way. If any thing, this cop should be up on charges. Disgusting that this seems to be a sealed record from the police, what are they hiding? If it were a officer that this happened to, they'd be having press conferences about how dangerous their job is and what a hero the cop is for surviving. But just a road worker... disposable.

I remember hearing about an off duty police officer that was involved in drunk driving traffic accident. He was taken into custody at around 12:30 AM and the officers shifted him around to several precincts until they finally took him to have his blood draw at around 7:30 AM. They waited until he was sober before getting him tested. In some states if you are arrested for DUI you must be tested within 2 hours or they have to drop the charges.
