it's believed that Ben Elton and Rik had a difference of opinion (falling out is possibly too stronger wording for it) and went their separate ways which is what put an end to the second series.

Great to see the uncut version of this episode, thanks for uploading, and in really good quality as well. I remember episode 2 being cut for VHS and DVD too, when Richie and Eddie are sitting on the toilet Richie says "are you thinking what I'm thinking?" which is followed by an obvious, horrible jump cut to Eddie's reaction shot. If I remember correctly they had a conversation about Jet from Gladiators, or something like that but the whole thing is missing and I've never understood why.
Thanks for uploading this. I presume from your own recording off the TV all those years ago. I'd forgotten so much had been edited out for the DVD. I remember watching this series endlessly round my mates house on Saturdays on his family's Betamax machine.
Notice that the Judge at the beginning is the same guy who buys 3 bottles of champagne from Richie and Eddie in the shop in an episode of Bottom. I love how certain respected actors like John Wells clearly had a love of Rik and Ade's brand of humour.

Excellent series. Jumped the shark a bit in this last one though. Wonder what the artistic differences were between Elton and Mayall -- the satire on the establishment seemed dated even at the time and now looks prehistoric as right-on lefties of the 80's would be buried for their crimes of privilege by the intersectionalist establishment of today.- still the same fundamentally but different ideologies to bully the plebs. By the time this programme went out Murdoch had already bought Chinese media and was sucking up to his communist masters..
This was such a wonderful series. Loved it then and now, in 2024, still do. Regards to all fellow fans. March, 2024.

How there was never another series of this I'll never know, this was another level to young ones

Rik wanted more creative control and Elton was a twat about it, so they never worked together again.

You must be remembering wrong, Gladiators didn’t exist yet when the episode was first broadcast.

Roxanne never made the DVD either - must have been a music licensing thing as both songs were cut.
