    Many comments I noticed are comparing this to the Beatles version. I am sure Phil Collins is not trying to outdo the Beatles. I think he is just celebrating their brilliance. Very cool interpretation of the song. He is a musical genius in his own right.

    I normally cannot stand other artists singing the Beatles songs, but I must say that Phil Collins did a great job here. both as a singer and a drummer. And with George Martin playing the piano and in the controls, it is almost an original version.

      And studio bass work is now computerized unfortunatly....puts a lot of musicians out of work...same for drums...but thats also why a large percentage of songs out today are so much alike...just a simple track on the bass and drums. He already was a well known name producing the really crazy Goon Show with Peter Sellars, Spike Milligan & Harry Seacombe . • @mc17strat
      @mc17strat 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry to disagree, but I don't see what the point of this project was anyway. Anytime you reproduce music - and in my opinion - less superior versions of the original songs in this case, you leave people asking why. Phil does a fine enough job of singing and playing the songs EXACTLY HOW THEY WERE ORIGINALLY RECORDED - BUT WHAT IS THE POINT? Jim Carey doing I AM THE WALRUS in his comical voice - WHAT IS THE POINT? Now I have to admit, I am a Puritan when it comes to my rock and roll - DON'T F^CK WITH THE ORIGINALS! Comedians recreating these songs is completely blasphemous in my opinion. However, if I were completely being objective, these versions add nothing original. Haha, Jim Carey funny voice version - um, I'll pass. Robin Williams - who I have always loved as a comedian and very talented actor - complete fail and very bad career decision. I think he was very vocal on how insecure he was about doing this project, too bad he didn't follow his instinct on this one. To your point above, I CAN PLAY DRUMS AND SING, AND PLAY GUITAR AND SING, AND PLAY PIANO AND SING, BUT THAT DOES NOT GIVE ME THE RIGHT TO ARROGANTLY REPRODUCE ALREADY WORTHY VERSIONS OF SONGS I WILL NEVER IMPROVE UPON. These poor celebrities went beyond their limitations due to hero worship and certainly ego kidding them they were worthy. Lastly, Mary you are a complete FUKTARD for even thinking that Phil had any right singing the Beatles. Sorry, but I had to add this last part because you are a RE-tard - however, I have to admit I am a Phil fan - prior to him becoming the 80s clown prince of pop. Respectively yours...Jackie Walton.

It has always been my contention that Mr McCartney didn't need to scream "Golden Slumbers;' I know the whole song is a classic, but it's a lullabye, for pete's sake! LOL No hard feelings, Mr. McCartney; you are still loved! I always thought the child might scream in terror at that point. Thanks so much for proving my point so beautifully! 🎶🎵🎸🥁

    "One morning I receive a call from Sir George Martin. As part of him winding down his career he wants to make an album, In My Life, featuring new versions of some of his favorite Beatles songs. We’ve known each other for years but never worked together, so I’m thrilled to be asked. He and his son Giles fly over to France to a house I’ve rented to use as a studio to record my next album.
    It’s decided that I’ll take on “Carry That Weight/Golden Slumbers” from Abbey Road. First I play the drum parts, including the famous Ringo solo. We double the length of it, which George loves. Then we go about the vocal parts, full of close, three-part harmonies, with George saying, “This is what Paul sang…this is what John sang…” Working with this genuine musical legend and thoroughly lovely man is a treasured memory of mine."
    What a talent...

      Lovely and appreciated as a tribute. But his voice is not the most appropriated for this song since both have very different voices. Contrary to someone saying that Collins effortlessly sings this Beatles wonder, it is so noticeable he was making a great effort to reach the higher notes. But the thing to understand is that a homage is not to try to equal, much less to surpass, the original, but to thank those who did a classic, timeless song!

      Read Phil’s biography, “Not Dead Yet”. You will change your mind about Phil. I went from “Yea, he is good, I like him” to OMG, this guy is awesome. One of my all time R&R’ers. I read his bio on the Queen Mary, crossing from NYC to the UK. I discovered the bio in the QM’s library. Got about 3/4ths through it on the QM. Had to buy it when we got back home to finish it. As we were “scouting about” London, we randomly got off the tube at an interesting looking small town to explore a bit. Turns out it was Phil’s neighborhood growing up. He describes it methodically in the book. What a coincidence. Speaking of coincidence, we also decided we want to see Abbey Road. Took the tub, then a bus or a 2 , then a short walk to get there. The closer we got, the more crowded it became. We were thinking “man, this place STILL draws a crowd”. Turns out, it was 50 years to the day of the infamous Beatles Abbey Road cover photo. They even had a Beatles recreation of the walk. I am a huge Phil Collins fan now, BTW. LOVED Genesis in the 70’s, but other than Peter Gabriel most of the band was incognito to me. I know much better know. And ALL of the band. Genius!

    I watched this documentary - Sir George Martin's choice of songs by the Beatles and those he chose to sing each song.
    It was very enjoyable - he is quite the visionary. Creative, interesting, talented - the soul of the Beatles.
    Phil Collins & his drums - perfect match for this song.
    Thanks for sharing the video
