      Abhishek Dwivedula Jonathan Kent was certainly mistaken about the matter of "letting them die" , but if you can remember, when he was stuck in the car and the storm was nearing, he sacrificed himself. So those weren't just words to him, he did meant everything he told Clark.

Superman killed the last of his kind, his only chance at ever seeing krypton again. Are you seriously telling me he didn't learn anything? he even let out a scream after he killed him. How is supes supposed to know he never wants to kill if he's never killed before? now he knows not to kill. Idk maybe you want your movies to be fairy tales or to be like like dragon ball z where goku politely asks the villain who wants to destroy his planet to fight away from the people and the city so they don't get hurt and they just somehow agree like they aren't actually bad guys, you're acting like the destruction and what not isn't being addressed in BvS. Like that's literally the reason Batman comes out of retirement.

    I HAVE TO ADRESS SOMETHING...
    Superman did not let innocent people die! The buildings were completely abandoned we even saw Louis's boss telling everyone to leave. During the final fight we saw that no one was in any of the buildings. There was even a shot showing the inside of the building as superman was thrown through it (yes it was superman who was thrown and not Zod). Everyone in Metropolis were on the streets below trying to leave. The vast majority of people who died were killed by Zod and the other kryptonians, not by superman.
    In Pacific rim the good guys showed little sympathy for innocent civilians and caused major damage and no one complained about that.

    This movie is not "dark and gritty." Marvel fanboys need to chill with that fallacy. It is realistic. Excuse WB for the gore that would actually follow an alien invasion (and a hulk, but hey Marvel hardly applies logic). Just because our new Superman is not refined and shitting rainbows doesn't mean it's depressing. This is the most wonderful movie I've ever seen, the most beautiful as well. The acting is great actually. Mrs. Kent manages such a range of emotions and is so vivid that you see her pain and reluctance while she smiles at Clark's news of finding Jor. She is quirky, raising her voice so loud like my own mom does whether at my annoying chihuahua or at me sometimes maybe because of old age and bad hearing. I love this movie.

      @newbei17 10 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      I don't think you understand the main problem here. The main problem is that Superman isn't supposed to be a dark, brooding, realistically-thinking character. He's supposed to be the naive, savior type who would never kill a villain, nor even permanently maim them.
      He's supposed to be the guy that always wants to find another way, no matter how hard it is or how much it hurts him personally (even if it kills him). That trait was what made his personality unique, and it was the main reason be balanced so well in conjunction with Batman. Then, this movie totally threw that in the trash, and made him a darker hero than Batman himself!
      I mean, come on! The biggest boy-scout of the DC Universe prioritized his fight over the innocents caught up in it, then killed his first villain with his bare hands! That's legitimately darker than all the Batman movies combined! It's like Hollywood stuck a totally different character in a Superman mask and said "Fly, brood, and make us money off of product placement!!"

    • @williamlopez4846
      @williamlopez4846 10 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      newbei17 No, the main problem is egotists like yourself thinking you know who "Superman" should be because you watched a few episodes of Justice League as a kid. actually, the biggest problem is anyone at all thinking they know what is best, even when this competes with the DC company itself. First of all, his name is Clark. Not Superman. Secondly, this movie does not shit rainbows, I'll admit that. however I will not apologize for my preferred franchise's choice of giving Clark more common sense and realistic morals in this new cinematic universe. Believe me, I know of the Superman you refer to. You wish for the Superman that will allow an entire alien invasion of thousands of Darkseid's minions to slaughter thousands of daughters and mothers because using his ultimate power of speed and strength to annihilate/capture all the murderers in a heartbeat would be too dangerous. Because it would be too evil. Our new Clark grew up alongside the utter hideousness of mankind. One of Man of Steel's biggest themes is hope, because our main savior chooses to believe in who we can be rather than the monsters we are. This movie is dark because that is how it would truly occur. Because our race is a piece of shit. And the mistakes Clark made should be attributed to his youth and inexperience. He was only Superman for a few days, he literally invented his flight and laser beams the day before his fight with Zod. Stop crying just because our new Superman is not the perfect, infallible bafoon he used to be. Our new DC universe is one that is realistic.

      ***** By not fighting there to start with. It was also them smashing up the place. I think Zod would have followed him if he'd relocated and here's why.
      I have some issues with it but I can see why the Death by Kryptonian idea is plausible. To his indoctrinated mind he has nothing left. No reason to be. Even if he killed all humans he'd be alone, useless, a failure. But if he fought and died then he'd at least have a warrior's death and the only person remotely capable of doing that is Clark. So he would follow him to get his proper death.
      Think about it. Despite what Zod said he didn't just fly off and start leveling the area to kill all humans. He taunted him with it and then Clark attacked him. Zod provoked him into action when Clark seemed to want to deescalate and settle things as it was pointless (he gets a point there). For being a trained soldier who quickly adapted to his powers he seemed to be matched by Clark, a farm boy who barely used his powers up to then, the whole way. Even at the end he provoked Clark into killing him by endangering others.
      It really does seem like Zod wanted Clark to kill him if you look at it a certain way.

    Everyone keeps saying Superman destroyed this and Superman destroyed that. If you actually watch the movie, you'll see the about 95 percent of the destruction came from the Kryptonians who made is clear that they dont care about the earth. This movie wasn't perfect but I wish people would get it through their heads that most of the destruction they complain about didn't even come from Superman.
    Example: In this video they blame Superman and say he destroyed Bruce Wayne's satellite but it was clearly Zod who broke it. If anything, Superman tried to catch it.

    • @ricktorca1
      @ricktorca1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      This conversation needs to stop showing up. if you'll pay attention you'll see Superman did try to get away from Metropolis. Zod smashed him and the satellite back to Metropolis so Zod could make him watch people he loves die. Zod's also the one who swung Superman through what... seven buildings? Everything in Smallville though was his fault because Zack Snyder needed to make his product placement quota. We'll have to wait for the sequel when Ben Afleck kicks this guys ass just how bad the destruction/death toll was and how much was actually Superman's fault. You know, aside from the obvious reason of being born and sent to Earth as a baby, since he totally had control over that.

Many of the audience have only seen the Christopher reeves film where he saves everyone. If they read the comics they will see that collateral damage is unavoidable and it shows that he Can't save everyone.

      And he even does this after that HIS own people pretty much destroyed a huge part of metropolis.
      Do you know how many families could live a glorious life for those money?

    How did Superman let the people die if he could do nothing about it because the machine would have destroyed the world if he didn't stop it? And stop with the whole Christopher Reeve nostalgia crap that Superman has to be happy and cheerful in movies. Those were those movies, that's not Superman or his universe. And I'm a Marvel fan too but stop with all this dark and gritty DC crap cause Marvel sets tones that make it fun and okay to kill people unlike DC. Between all the Avengers in the MCU they've killed hundreds of people and aliens or whatnot. Just chill and watch the fuckin movie for what is, and if u think the Christopher Reeve films are what Superman movies are suppose to be like, please read a comic or even watch one of the Justice League cartoon episodes.

      Brenden Johnson "During those same years Superman was being smash to his death in the comics."
      Actually, the Superman comics from that era were pretty lighthearted, not so much as in the 50s and 60s, but it was far from heavy-handed drama. Perry White gets superpowers, there's a team-up with Santa Claus, a Super-Mobile, Cark Kent and Lana Lang became TV news anchors, Supergirl became a soap opera actress, shrinking, growing, and characters like Bizarro, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Pegleg Portia, Father Nature, and Captain Strong (He's essentially Popeye). The Doomsday fight happened several years after Christopher Reeve hung up his cape.

      Joe Schreck Same time frame. My point was, the movie critics saying it's not Superman because it's no so inspirational and shit like the Richard Donner films, obviously never read a superman comic series, DC cartoon, cartoon movie etc since that time.

DOn't you think he'd be a bit preoccupied trying to stop the bad guys and a bit overwhelmed by trying to contain the bad guys from obliterating the world let alone a city block. The enemy ship and people was in the middle of metropolis the fight wasn't brought there by him. And the moody part he wasn't moody at all he was trying to find his way. I actually liked this move (with the exception of the exaggerated random Jesus pose).
    I've always wanted to like Superman but he's never really felt relatable. He just felt too good without any really flaws. He's basically invincible and as/more powerful than anything else he goes against. Then he's also basically the best goody two shoes that humans could ever aspire to be without personal flaws as well.
    This movie made him feel real. He wasn't perfect, he had anger, he had flaws, he had feelings, he had tough decisions. They also managed to depict the fighting in a more realistic sense. He's superman and he's great but HE CAN'T SAVE EVERYONE. Alot of people die because when super powers slug it out like that people are going to die. He doesn't get to choose the battleground.
    I also liked how the battles seemed more realistic too in the sense that it's more chaotic and uncontrolled than you are used to see. Because every punch sends people flying like it should. Every throw has the actual force they are using behind it. It's not some cartoony thing where Superman hits someone with enough strength to launch trains only for them to only fly 5 foot lol.
    I finally have a Superman movie that I can relate to Superman in now. They finally made him a person, not just a Superman.

    • @DerpinPON3
      @DerpinPON3 10 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      And this shit right here is how I know you people aren't Superman fans. Superman is just like everyone else. He has been living on Earth all his life. He's not truly alien to the planet. Raised on Earth by the best parents like ever he is suppose to be what everyone strives to be and that ultimate good because that's who he is. And he DOES have a lot of very personal and conflicting issues. He struggles with the reality of him not being able to save everyone no matter how powerful he is, his lineage, etc.
      Man of Steel is a VERY POORLY written film that is an insult to everything Superman stands for and definitely doesn't make Superman the superHERO he's suppose to be. Hollywood just wanted to make a DBZ with as much destruction as the dollar can pay for because it's over the top with it all. Superman doesn't even try to stop the destruction in Metropolis. And this is the hero who is suppose to feel responsible for the people he protects. A guy that goes out of his way to stop a building from falling over.
      It's nothing to do with nostalgia. Man of Steel was a bad movie period and definitely a piss poor Superman flick. You people never thought Supes was cool so I don't expect you to get it.

    i love the dark tone they take with the DCU...marvel is too child-friendly. That doesnt mean its bad though. i also enjoy the comic relieve in marvel movies and i loved antman. so its good dc takes a different approach

    • @Allistar123
      @Allistar123 9 ปีที่แล้ว +96

      +Slevin Kelevra Daredevil is probably one of the darkest hero adaptations in a while. Marvel isn't child-friendly they just stay in theme with their source material. Tony Stark isn't a broody individual, he is a pretty vibrant and colorful character and so they present him as such. Daredevil is a much more darker hero and they mold the show to take that direction. That is the problem with Man of Steel. They are ashamed to make him like his source material so they force the character and the environment to be darker and grimmy because they figured if it works with Batman than it should work for Superman completely missing the point that they great thing about Batman and Superman's relationship/rivarly is the contrast.

      +Allistar123 You have a point but I would rather have a dark cinematic universe than a sunshine and lollipops universe. Love the MCU, but I think partnering with Disney was one big money hog, and it made the whole MCU too comedic. But Iron Man 1 and Winter Soldier were darker than the rest excluding the terrible Hulk movie which started the MCU. Those 2 movies were amazing.

    • @Liberator130
      @Liberator130 9 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      +Slevin Kelevra Child friendly? The MCU is where Bruce admits he tried to commit suicide, Tony had crippling PTSD, Natasha reveals she was sterilized and trained as a murderer, (the storyline of The Winter Soldier is all about politics that would go over kids' heads like usage of Drones, breaches of personal privacy for national security, and predetermined guilt made by governments), the plot of Iron Man 3 is a condemnation of the United States military and Government, Iron Man 1 deals with terrorist analogues with infamous iconography that has terrified modern society, Scott is an ex-con whose main storyline is that employers won't give him a job because of his incarceration which leads him back to committing crime, and then you pretty much have the entirety of Daredevil which is pre-Guilliani levels of "dark New York City".
      I wouldn't care about the morbid tone Man of Steel took if had a good story to go along with it. If Man of Steel's story was on the level of being as introspective and thought-provoking as, say for instance, "Superman vs. The Elite" I would not have given one damn about how more somber the tone was.
      I hope BvS is great, but Man of Steel has made me VERY worried about WB/DC's attempt at a shared universe (especially since unlike Marvel Studios with Disney, DC does not have a creative oversight studio calling shots for the production). Having the hand-waving of "oh, the MCU is kiddie and kid-friendly" is an absolutely limp criticism at best.

    • @TheStarskye
      @TheStarskye 8 ปีที่แล้ว +121

      "portray Him in a more human/realistic persona"
      Yes because stories that are human and realistic are always full of religious symbolism.
      The movie wasn't hated because it was dark, it was hated because it wasn't true to Superman's character. Nolan's Batman trilogy was dark but everyone loved it because it fit the tone of the character. Superman is not a dark character, the tone didn't fit, it was a dull, boring movie which had terrible characterization.
      If you liked it, then good for you but don't pretend it's something it wasn't or act like everyone who disliked it "just didn't get it"

    • @fumundacheese8256

      +TheStarskye supermans character has been dark before hell just look at injustice where joker kills Lois lane and millions of others by detonating a nuke superman broke then or even frank miller's dark knight returns we see superman kill hundreds of soviets the character isn't always a bright beacon of truth justice and the American way he's powerful and mighty but flawed in many ways and in this movie that's what we saw a brand new superman who hasn't been trained or hasnt even come to his full potential yet and he has to fight beings that are just like him and people died lots of them.

    • @MAnnaconduit1
      @MAnnaconduit1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      axel0c yeah I think comics can be put aside in this argument--even the comics man of steel was based off of were loosely interpreted- when I want to see film and tv superman I watch the animated movies they bring out like superman and the elite etc.- that movie actually is the perfect example of why superman shouldn't kill, same with batman, it isn't because they can't it's because it would be too easy, just crossing that line (one reason villains do the things they do is because they have that power) would get easier and they would become more used to it, less reluctant and maybe one day even become oppressors themselves.

    I know a lot of people will disagree with what I’m about to say, but I must say this: If Superman HAD spared Zod...Then what? Think about it for a second: In the comics, whenever Superman fights Zod, he usually throws him in the phantom zone or a high-tech kryptonite-powered prison or some crap like that. However, In this movie’s universe, there’s no sufficiently advanced high-tech prison that can hold super villains yet. Also, Superman doesn’t know how to access the phantom zone and he doesn’t know that kryptonite is a thing yet. Therefore, without access to the phantom zone, kryptonite, magic, red sun energy or anything that could restrain someone as powerful as a kryptonian...where would he have put Zod? There’s absolutely nothing that can restrain or hold someone like him. If Superman had spared Zod, there would’ve been another fight equally as destructive as the first one...and there’s no guarantee that Superman would win the second round. Also, I think it’s worth pointing out that back in the Christopher Reeves movies, Superman killed Zod there too and nobody complained about it back then. So, it’s okay for the supposed “idealistic” and “kid-friendly” version to get a pass on stuff like that, but the so-called “mature version” doesn’t? Give me a break.
