Bought this thing and took the wheel out and the top loaders fail every single time. Put the wheel back in and does the same thing. Pretty crazy you got it to work and I can't get a single top loader to automatically go through. Any suggestions?

Great content! I bought the epson 400 and it will not work for what i have. I want to know how the chrome and mosaics look on this scanner? Man I truly appreciate your quick work getting this review out in a timely manner. Your reminder to the people starting at 1:12 makes a ton of sense and you're right, you did say you'd be owning a Fujitsu (now Ricoh) scanner someday! Scanning cards in a penny sleeve inside a toploader with no issues is a game changer for sure. I'm glad I stumbled across your channel as I begin to ramp up my journey. I currently list cards on ebay doing the caveman method (like most people) using my iphone to take pictures which led me to your channel, these scanners and Card Dealer Pro. I'm ready and motivated to take the next step to speed up the listing process as I have stacks of cards collecting dust, thanks JMac!!
Much appreciated shipping got delayed for several days so thought I’d have these about a week sooner, thanks for the support and glad you’re enjoying and getting something from the content!
Thank you for the video. I did watch the epson video as well. If you were just using a scanner to scan penny sleeve low end cards , nothing top loaded would you stick with the epson or One of these? Thank you!
My Epson ES-400 II starts to generate lines after some usage -- i.e. some leftovers are being left behind from the scanning of cards (even if the cards are in new penny sleeves). Later these leftovers start to scratch the penny sleeves on the following scans and leave the lines... How is Ricoh able to avoid that? For example after you scan a few hundred of cards are we going to notice also some scanner generated lines?
I purchased one of these and for the most part am happy with it. I think I need to tinker with a few more settings, but the scans look MUCH better in my listings than what I was getting with the Epson scanner. Too many scratched up penny sleeves and top loaders from the Epson that were making my listing pictures look like garbage. I do wish you could scan consistently with penny sleeves with the 8040, that is probably my only complaint, but I can just as easily take a little time and top load the cards and scan them. Its still a time saver and the scans look much better in my listings than they did before. I'm actually, as time permits, going back through my entire store and rescanning everything and updating the listings.
Thanks for the feedback, this is definitely a great mid-tier scanner for someone even with higher end cards they want scanned in top loaders to use and know their cards are protected! Yeah I was so used to only scanning with penny sleeves I had to readjust after a couple of days to use top loaders with this one.
Hey Jmac! I recently bought a fi-7180 off ebay but whenever I hook it up to my computer it says that it's a fi-6140? Also I don't have that margin setting shown for me in Paperstream Capture either! Any idea why?
Well turns out it was in "emulation mode" which allows the scanner to act as an older model. Got it switched back to 7180 mode and working like a beast now :) Margins work too!
Good video. Is there a wheel that needs to be removed? Does scanning in a semi-ridged have any affect on how you inventory your cards? Can you still use the 4 or 5 row boxes?
I have this scanner, do you have an issue with scan lines? Many of my scans have horrible scan lines. I’ve tried cleaning it and it’s good for about 10 scans but that’s it.
Yeah this one is a brand new release by Ricoh to get a mid tier price point option out there. Needless to say I’m really excited to unbox and start using the 8170 as well, but this is great option for half the price!
Good day JMac. Just purchased and it’s on its way. But, 😮 I just found that in Raw cards with white border, back ground is white and can’t be changed to black, making it a bit difficult to determine end of white border on raw card. Also I didn’t think of this at point of purchase but can I use my Apple computer for set up? Don’t have a PC and or windows. Lmk Thank you for your videos.
Hey JMac! Thanks for all the great content! I was wondering how you organize the cards after you scan them? Do you use the SKU feature in CDP? How do you go about that so you can find them easily when purchased? Thanks man!
So, you don’t it helpful to use the SKU feature in CDP? I’m just getting going and about to list a lot of cards. Thinking it might be helpful to just file rows of 50-100 cards with SKU at a time and separate that way to pick when sold. Seems like you find it easier to separate by sport/product/year to find later? Like you say in the video, I guess to each their own and it’s an ever-evolving process!
@@bradmoore5992 didnt say that the SKU feature isnt useful (i use it for lots/collections i buy sometimes to track progress and profits on that particular lot/collection), you asked how I organize....that's how we chose to do it.. Find what works best for YOU! All the best.
I have a question. I buy a lot of collections but they are normally shoe boxes of random trading cards, not just story’s cards. My question to you is do you go card by card to process your collection? Basically what is the quickest way to process a collection to see if cards have value, then condition for possible grading. I have cards out my ears from buying out collectors but not a tremendous about of time to process and asses. Thanks for your time!
Awesome video, I’m thinking of investing in scanners, quick question though, once they are scanned how to you get them posted on eBay? Is that just the standard way one by one manually?
I use CardDealerPro.com you upload the scanned images to their service that then pulls in the data on the cards and makes it easy to list. I don’t see how you can go wrong with the SV600 for everything it’s totally touchless which means nothing mechanical will jam or should break on the scanner.
I bought this 8 months ago because you said it was a good scanner and it could not be farther from that. I still cannot get it to scan consistently without causing distorted images even if I do one at a time. Tried cleaning and everything. Just not made for sportscard scanning like you said it was. I bought this scanner based on the review regarding top loaders and semi-rigid compatibility. Unfortunately, so far the scans have been horrible. Nearly every scan has print lines. I've cleaned the glass to no avail. I will go back to my Epson for reliability. I am using a Mac which doesn't seem to be highly supported by Ricoh. Very disappointed.
how much were you paid by Ricoh to make this? don't see how this is any different from the Epson ES-400II other than "speed", but that's what happens when you select 300dpi vs 400dpi
You can't scan a stack of top loaded cards with the Epson, also I'm reviewing several scanners if you don't like them, or don't need one, don't buy them. Its okay. It's literally just a review of a new scanner on the market.
Actually it's very difficult to scan a single top loaded card with the Epson. The Epson is the lowest tier scanner (it will get the job done for raw and penny sleeved cards) and this is the next step up, so if someone wants a better quality scanner than the Epson (and not spent $1k on the 8170) this IMO would be the choice.
What I want to know is how the hell do you get any cards outside of the standard thickness through this? Or top loaders. Every single one I try to put through it gets stuck halfway through it, this machine has been a complete disappointment

Hey ☺️ how do you feel about this scanner a year later? Are you still using it and it’s going well with toploaders?
noticed an “edge correction” setting in the advanced settings when you pulled it up. Might be worth looking into what that does.

Does any one else get lines showing up on the scans
Now I have to learn about this. This is awesome. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Does this scanner have the same problem as the Epson with faint lines? Especially on sleeved chrome cards?
No
So no print lines is a game changer. That is why all I do is paper stock with the Epson.
How often do you need to open it and clean the inside? My Epson has to be cleaned after about 100 scans.

all good. I'm getting her dialed in now. thanks@@JMacSportsCards
Can these scan cards raw without damaging them?
Did you or anyone else in comments have issues with scanner scratching cards left, right and center?
