Finally, a review for the Jones Freecarver 6000! I was really interested in the tapered design and deep sidecut-figured it would make the board super nimble and turny. But with no reviews out there, I ended up grabbing the Amplid Singular instead. No regrets though-I’m really happy with my choice.
Yeah that's a great board and super different. It's much more well rounded and can do a lot more than just carve. So if that's what you are going for then that's a great choice.
Great review. Picked up one of these last season right when it became available and got a bunch if days on it. It is a bunch of fun for sure. As a lighter rider (160 Lbs) on a 154 it did better in powder than anticipated. Not the first board I would grab for powder (the Pencil is my go to powder board these days) but it did the job decently. (Not a tight tree board for sure). This one to me is a keeper. Keep the reviews coming!
Right on! Hey could you do me a favor? Could lay it on a flat surface and tell me how your camber profile is vs. the one you see in my review 2:24. If you can send a pic even better. thegoodride.com/other-inquiries/ Thanks!
I got the 58 last season, and love it. Im really surprised of how smooth it rides in addition to how great it carves. Must be some genius 3d work at the contact points. I'll send you a pic of its camber too 😁
Hey man, super review as always :) Super happy to finally find a review of this beast. I am pretty sure that it will be my next weapon. Thank to your suggestion I am riding a Storm Wolf for everyday riding (powder and down the line carving) But this freecarver 6000 seems to complement this as hell for those groomer days :) I'll get the 158 (same foot as you and just a touch litter) want to get the full carving experience :D See ya !
@@thegoodridesnow 42,5 boot size (9,5 us) and 75 kg (165 lbs) riding the 154 Storm Wolf I was afraid to go too big but I will change with a friend for the 158 this winter :)
I'd go 158 Freecarver 6000s/158 Storm Wolf if you felt the 154 Storm Wolf was too small and you wanted more board. If not you might like the 154 Freecarver 6000s as its a lot more board than the 154 Storm Wolf.
Thanks James for a great and detailed review. Really, a carver should be a quiver-board anyway IMO. I’d love to see you do a comparison of carvers out there. Off-topic but I would really like to see you do a review and comparison of the smart phone apps out there right now: Open Snow, Fat Maps, Slopes etc. there is a great deal of competition right now and I think all three have 3D maps which is fantastic to just pull up on your phone when your on the Mountain or kicking back with a beer at the end of the day.
Thanks, and I agree. Some people don't understand carvers, and why they aren't good in pow, so I thought I'd break it down for them to avoid making a wrong purchase. I'll definitely try to do a Carver Comparison, and I'll see if Davey (who is working on travel vids) will do an app review.
Thanks! Very little out there compares to the Freecarvers except other Carvers. Carvers are super technical/unforgiving with a ton of camber and effective edge that results in a tiny nose/tail. Its pretty much just for carving in good conditions. The Biru carves super well for a short-wide and its technical too but a world behind the freecarver and its much more well rounded/a much better daily driver.
Go Gremlin if you want a snowboard that can carve and ride all day. It also has a little better grip. If you just want a pure carving board (not like a normal snowboards and doesn't do anything else well) for clean groomers and have another board like the Gremlin for all day riding go Freecarver 6000s
The Freecarver 9000s is absolutely nothing like the Flagship. The only thing they share is a similar sidecut radius. The Flagship rides much narrower for it's size, longer and has a mellow camber between the feet. The 9000s has a massive bow of camber, all effective edge and a little nub for a nose and tail. It's made to do one thing. Carve exceptionally well. The Flagship is a daily driver that does a lot of things well.
I only rode it out West but did ride in the Mid-West before so my guess is it will do pretty well. It's almost there with full on magnetraction boards and that is what I rode when I was out there and it gripped super well.
Not really like any Korua board. Not like the Pencil at all. Maybe closer to the Cafe Racer and Transition Finder but still so massively different. They don't make a pure carving boards like this. They make boards that can carve and float in pow. This can just carve, is much softer, has much less taper, massively more camber and a massively longer effective edge.
@@thegoodridesnow thanks for the comparison. It seems that in the past 5 years carving boards have blown up in popularity and Korya used to be on everyone's lips. Not so much anymore which is weird cause I feel Korua makes bommer boards.
Not even close. This is on another level. Those are super fun for what they are though. This is for carving and pretty much nothing else. It's almost all camber with only a nub for a nose and tail.
If you want to lace super tight turns like you're in a bowl at the skatepark, go with the Freecarver 6000. If you want to rip high speed drawn out turns across an entire run, go with the Freecarver 9000.
6000 is around a 6 meter sidecut radius and the 9000 is around a 9 meter sidecut radius. The first commenter nailed his description for what effect that achieves 👍🏼
Been waiting for review on this 6000. Already have my 6000 in 158cm and can't wait to try it out. Thanks for doing this review.
Thanks and hope it helps.

Thanks for the good words and your take. Glad you have a Pencil too.
@@thegoodridesnow The Pencil in the quiver is the result of a Goodride review. That thing is a tree assassin.
Awesome timing..I have a 154 out for delivery atm!

6-7 mm camber, with bindings on

Thanks for the review!!! How does it compare to the Stranda Biru that you also reviewed recently? looks like the jones is more technical, right?

Is the 154 the smallest size?
150
This freecarver vs the gremlin for mostly Midwest carving?

Comparison between flagship and freecarver 9k? Both seem somewhat geared similarly

Is the board mostly for posi posi or is duck carving doable on it?
Its mostly stance angle agnostic but its more fun posi. If you ride slightly duck its a board you can work your way up to posi riding with.
How does this handle mid west ice?
I only rode it out West but did ride in the Mid-West before so my guess is it will do pretty well. It's almost there with full on magnetraction boards and that is what I rode when I was out there and it gripped super well.
As i have ridden a bunch of korua boards, how close is this to a Korua and which one? PENCIL?

Korua is still amazing. This is a different kind of board than anything in Korua's line.
How does it compare to the Party Wave + or the Korua Dart?
Nothing like em. This is primarily for carving on another level. Those are for powder and carving.
@@thegoodridesnow from a carving perspective does the dart and the party wave carve the same as this?

@@thegoodridesnow need to get on a demo and see for myself. But like the Dart Plus it bucks you on uneven terrain😞
That would be best. It's always best to try before you buy. Then you will realize how different this board is from the ones you know.
What’s the difference between the 6000 and 9000
If you want to lace super tight turns like you're in a bowl at the skatepark, go with the Freecarver 6000. If you want to rip high speed drawn out turns across an entire run, go with the Freecarver 9000.
