You are so cool. I've watched your quena video 100 times. I'm glad you're still doing well so many years down the line. Youre the best!

Wow, thank you! People who really play the Quena well are amazing to watch. I am not one of them. But it is a great flute.

I had to order a set. This is just too good an opportunity for me to miss.
The sounds of these flutes is part of the root stock of the music we hear today and I shall enjoy playing them.

Just got my set today! Woohoo! I had to come back and watch this video to see what I was supposed to do with those 2 side-ish holes on the Jiahu Crane flute...
I'm SO excited to practice these! 😍💖
Oh, and the bag is GORGEOUS!!💝

Hi Carol: Those are tuning holes! An ancient flute making trick of the Japanese, Chinese and flutemakers in India.

I have been in quarantine since 2010 when I retired from traveling the country selling at craft show and renaissance festivals to attend on line customers. Love it here.

Loving the sound of this set Erik! And love your bamboo deck! I am assuming your materials came from your bamboo forest. Amazing 😄🎋God bless you and stay healthy!

Hi Lori We did use a lot of my home grown bamboo. The floor is pine and was in a pile of trash from a tiki hut maker. As well as the logs. A great find for someone like me who dreamed of a Japanese Garden but did not want to spend a lot of money to become a nightmare, Ha!

I love my beautifully carved Arabian flute I got from you a couple of years ago and even though the shipping cost to Europe was more than the cost of the actual instrument it was a good investment! So easy to blow compared to any other of my flutes, still play it every week! Did not think I needed another flute, but your Japanese scale flute sounds amazing! ;)

Great video Erik thank you for sharing I would love if you were able to share your mic reverb setup. I think making flutes sound the best they can is as important as the flute. Again a big thank you I really enjoy your videos.

      Hi Paul:
I should and will try. Technology has moved on but when recording outside I use a mic, stand, connected with a cable to a RV-3 Boss reverb-delay pedal (cost on Ebay from $100 to $150) I set it on #7, a cable goes into a Taxi by Crate. A battery powered or electric amp. Indoors A mic to my Apple and I use Garage Band, to the Acoustic Guitars setting then to Large Reverb. Hope this helps. Erik

These are wonderful! Do you ever make flutes out of bone or have advice for those who do?

Came from the "history of flute" vídeo, loved the channel!!
    Very informative and entertaining.
I think you should disable the "kids content" to make it easier for people (who are not kids) that love flute to see the vídeo.
    Greetings from Brazil!

Your instruments are magnificent, Erik! I have a question: do the bamboo flutes need to be 'oiled' or otherwise 'treated' once in a while? if so..how?

    • @ErikTheFlutemakerCom
      @ErikTheFlutemakerCom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

We oil your flute before leaving here. Inside we use Mineral oil outside - Coconut oil. Even dry cured Bamboo likes to drink humidity to live long. So if you live in a desert it is good to bring your flute into the bath room when showering to drink from the air. And to oil your flute more often than if you live where there is humidity. Outside oiling is good to do when you wish to see your flute shine. Inside oiling in paces that are very dry. Once a month should be fine.

Amazing! How are the flutes closed at the end? Is it just the natural seal from the node?
