I agree, Danny Bush. Most of greats have two or three elements in which they can't be touched. Eva had 5 or 6. She could do what they did as well as them. She had no limits of weaknesses as a singer. She could scat as well as Ella, the range of Cleo Laine, the jazz sense and restraint of Lady Day, bluesy as Sarah Vaughn and smokey as Nina Simone. She had it all. 44 years of being a music addict then i hear eric weinstein mention a singer called eva cassidy. music when performed at its best is emotion, three notes from this lady cause shivers and tears. inexplicable
I cry almost every time I hear Eva sing "Over the rainbow". Her version is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever made. So talanted and equipped with a voice that only a god can have made. I'm so sad that I've never heard of her when she was alive. RIP Eva!
She was SUPER LOYAL to DC & the fact she was from there & family from Maryland. Blues Alley has been legendary for live music in DC (Georgetown). She will never be forgotten, love always Eva 🕊💞
How is Eva Cassidy this damn good?! Hands down one of the best vocals I have ever heard and her guitar playing is just as good. Not many singers can break me and make me cry just by hearing their voice, but Eva is in a whole other league. I cried twice watching this concert. Once during Time After Time and a second time during Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I have never heard Somewhere Over the Rainbow covered so beautifully. It’s damn near flawless with both the vocals and guitar. I am so proud too that Eva Cassidy is from my state that I am from the great state of Maryland and I am so happy that she shared her voice with us before she left this world. Her voice is just timeless and you know it’s good when it makes you cry and gives you goosebumps. Thanks for posting her final concert so that she gets the credit she rightfully deserves as an artist.
Dude! You sound as bad as me! Tears falling . My wife turned me on to Eva because i guess she was tired of my obsession with Linda Ronstadt.Big mistake! Lol! I now have two musical mistresses!
@@gtswann I'm so glad to read these comments and seeing this wonderful artist getting the recognition she truely deserves, such emotion in her voice and her range is unbelievable, a true legend
So nice that the audience let her finish singing before applauding, allowing her to put all of that fine nuance into the whole song. What a stellar singer, and gone at only 33.
How did the world fail Eva? I love her...but a terminal condition has happened to 10's of millions of humans. People are still dying of cancer even today. Those who hear her love her....the world loves her. The world has not failed her. The evil of cancer took her. The world still loves her.
The greatest vocalist of her generation supported herself working at a plant nursery because record executives did not know how to package her, refused to see her as the talent we love and appreciate. Did she contract the melanoma that killed her from chemicals at the nursery or from exposure to the sun, both hazards for people in ag-related businesses? She was working there to make ends meet, not reaping any of the royalties (much less the acclaim) that have come her way since her death. Properly remunerated at the time for her genius -- or even living in a country with a decent national health system -- she might have gone to the doctor before the melanoma had spread throughout her body. Medical costs discourage many people from doctor appointments. Massive failure of the world we have created on several fronts. Those who knew Eva STILL love her, or love her still. We latecomers were denied that opportunity. We love her NOW.

I love her rendition of Field of gold, everytime i hear her sing the oooh oooh part my Heart aches. We played that song on my mothers funeral and she was also named Eva and died of cancer. It seemed fitting somehow
I'm not too much of a jazz fan, but this goes to show how versatile she was. Jazz is not easy - this much I do know. She's good at singing every type of music. Simply fabulous! A healer of the soul.Hat's off to the guys accompanying her too!! Wow!
So grateful to have this live concert of Eva. Such an intimate setting with every song evoking such raw beauty and soul. The band was spectacular as well. Her voice is timeless and I know it will inspire generations to come. ...When I think of how young she was taken from us, it makes me cry. so glad this was posted.. if people stumble onto this .. they'll have a new favorite singer in the universe,, Eva was a global treasure , she never knew . :)
Thank you for all the work that was done to restore this performance, for allowing us fans to sit for an hour and get lost in the music. An amazing performance. Love it.
Absolutely love her singing, her musicianship, her soul, and filled with sorrow she left us too soon. Have all her albums already. Best wishes keeping this music alive in her honor!
I am so sad that I had never heard of this great artist until now. Now, I want to hear everything she ever sang. Just superb song choice, voice and range. Stunning.
I am so unbelievably sad and (and angry at myself) that I never heard her much earlier than I did. I was living in Washington, DC when she was there -- but not going to clubs AND NEVER KNEW SHE WAS APPEARING THERE IN Blues Alley! What I missed being in SAME CITY and never heard her. Just makes me sick.
@@judithhowell6654 You are not alone. I grew up nearby in Baltimore County, hearing about Blues Alley when I was too young to go. What a s absolutely beautiful voice, very can sing both blues and jazz. Lovely! So terribly sad we lost her so young. Reminds me a little of Bonnie Raitt

She made every song her own without writing a note. Incredible. Tears in my eyes listening to her perfect pitch controlled vibrato. I mourn not knowing of her while she was living, I mourn her death, I mourn all of us missing what she would have grown into with another decade of life and I thank God for having much more than her memory to witness now. Most moving singer perhaps ever.
Sadly she was completely unknown outside the D.C./Delaware area in 1993. We are all forgiven for not noting her brilliance then, but will always worship what she was.
She was, and still is for me, one of the most beautiful singers I have ever listened to. She is still alive through her songs, beautiful gifts that she has left between us. LOVE YOU EVA!!!
She was already prepared to die. She was dying of metastatic melanoma & wanted to leave a legacy for her self. She truly did with the recordings she made!
Eva made a massive difference and contributed so much during, and especially after her death. I will always remember the first time I listened to her album Songbird and did i cry !!! Who is this singer I thought? And only then did I discover she had already died, so I cried some more. She's so powerfully affecting. Incredible voice, other worldly. Well done Eva, thanks for all your work, your passion, your humanness and the legacy you left behind. Love and best wishes xx
I bought five of her CD’s and they are in my car and listening to them is like magic to my ears Like a Live Concert better soundtrack then on TH-cam on my cellphone
Amazing! Love the acoustic guitar numbers. She’s the best parts of Bonnie Raitt and Roberta Flack all rolled up in one sweet guitar player…simply wonderful! She owns each song with such creatively personal sensitivity.
Yes because I heard this song in the movie Maid in Manhattan I thought it was Roberta Flack but it wasn't it was this beautiful song bird from heaven that God allowed her to leave this magnificent music for us to enjoy
Here we have a truly class act. Eva’s spin, on traditional old and modern classics, is unique. A voice all her own. Renditions of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow “ and “Autumn Leaves” are so wonderfully caressed by a voice that shows it’s pain and sadness. But also Eva sings with a deep sense of hope and certainty too. Gone too soon. Such a talent. RIP x

This documentary reveals a great deal about Eva Cassidy, important in understanding her choices, direction (many), and that critical one night at Blues Alley. It is a nod to the guys behind her, especially Chris B. (Thanks, guys. This could not have been easy to do.) This film explains a bit about her musical choices, which have been criticized as too generic. Yet I myself am thrilled that her song choices reflect my own - wonderful songs that I know and love well. Every song is terrific. No filler. As that one night of music defined most of what the greater world would hear from Eva Cassidy, this film fills in much- pondered gaps and adds essential knowledge to her legacy. Without CB and the band, no one ever would have heard this music. Well done all round then.
I am grateful to all Eva’s friends, fans & band mates who made sure that we could see & hear Eva’s wonderful voice all over the world as she would have loved!

Her version of OTR was truly amazing! When I pass from this life, I want that played for me. Her vocals, her harmonies and her passion was nothing short of incredible. As a cancer survivor, I instantly connected with her music. The aches and pains of this life can truly be expressed through music and she has done that. Thank you EC for sharing your gift with us. You are greatly missed. 💙
Until a few years ago when a person mentioned her on a radio station, and played a song by Eva, I had never before the authentic sound that came from the soul...the voice most conveys a feeling that I have heard in my life. How tragic to lose this young elder...
Her style and playing are just so perfect for each song, and her band is second to none. They never overplay, and when they solo they round the song with just the right touch. This is one of the finest performances I've ever heard.

She sang from the depths of her being. Part of her allure is she didn't know just how good she was.
Awe... I would kiss the feet of any one of those 124 souls lucky enough to witness Eva Cassidy's final concert at Blues Alley. What a privilege it must have been to experience such pure magic in person!
What a voice. My teenage daughter is an aspiring vocalist and I encourage her to listen to Eva Cassidy and soak it all in. Wonderful.
I have a Daughter I’ve never been allowed to know she is 47 years old now and I’ve been told by a detective 🕵️♂️ if I go anywhere near my daughter I’ll be arrested for stalking my own child believe it or not her Song Enter from the East is about Me. My family had me put in restraints for trying to go to an unknown location in Alaska Christmas 1973 & Spring 1974 her first CD 💿 pieces of you I’m sure is dedicated to brake my heart 💔 all over again. Her mom was the game player along with a girl Lanedra Carroll calls Laura Gold on Jewel’s credits of her second CD 💿 called Spirit and the very last song on that CD is called This little Bird 🐦 and Nedra held me in her arms and sang that song to Me after we consummated our marriage see that guy Jewel calls her father in public gave Me His Sister’s hand in marriage at an LRY Conference in Toronto Canada September 1,1973 because I had a Draft Card for the Vietnam War and My Random # was 027
I would love to hear some of your daughter's music
@@readonnawilson9600 you most likely have. He's saying he's Jewel's father.
Eva was and still is a one woman Master Class to any aspiring singer.

Not only do I love, love, love Eva...her band is GREAT!
Absolutly one of the best voices,... Sorry she went so fast.... Still remember and listen to this fantastic woman....She didnt get the acnowledge she deserved in life ....But she still lives in our minds ... Love from Norway
44 years of being a music addict then i hear eric weinstein mention a singer called eva cassidy. music when performed at its best is emotion, three notes from this lady cause shivers and tears. inexplicable
Hello Stevie how are you doing today???
I cry almost every time I hear Eva sing "Over the rainbow". Her version is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever made. So talanted and equipped with a voice that only a god can have made. I'm so sad that I've never heard of her when she was alive. RIP Eva!
Her voice is as expansive as the Universe and as intimate as a lover's kiss. Oh my gosh. We've been robbed.
The greatest female singer I've ever heard. Incredible.
As long as Eva's music lives, Eva lives in our minds. Never to be forgotten.
What a loss to music when she left us.
She will return to us...
Her music.. her voice..and the shy girl with this incredible God given talent is gone live forever.... Love from Norway....
@@BorsosGabor2023 Your wish is granted.

She is the Van Gogh of Jazz xx
❤
So nice that the audience let her finish singing before applauding, allowing her to put all of that fine nuance into the whole song. What a stellar singer, and gone at only 33.
WOW!!!!! The BEST female vocalist I have EVER heard!!!!!
The world failed Eva, but she didn't fail us. The integrity she brings to her art still provides us a beacon of inspiration.
Eva’s story is the very definition of integrity to her artistry.

I love it when her voice cracks just the tiniest bit at the end of a few songs. That's when I am reminded she is human. Her voice was naturally perfect, RIP beautiful.

I read somewhere that she had a cold that day and not to mention the cancer that would end her life a few months later.
Amazing singer 😢
1 hour of Eva’s performance gives so much more than the whole musical industry within past 10 years gave... pure delight and such a peace ❤️
Just want to say that Eva deserves only the best musicians and you most definitely are.
Thank you for complementing Eva's amazing voice so sympathetically, please know how much you are appreciated.
Never get tired of listening to her sing and play guitar, she was supremely talented!
Love you and Miss you Eva.
Every song she sings, she makes it her own. Exhilarating. She takes you on a journey.
Nothing compares to her ! I can listen to each and every breath, and inflection and turn of phrase all the day and night long and never tire! Hear something new each time. God bless her.

She is absolutely mesmerizing.
Her voice!
Her arrangements!

I came across Eva's music by accident. Her voice caught my attention, as she was singing from her soul, so touchy. Thank God this has been recorded...
I so agree...not sure how I found her here but I am so very glad I did. I listen to her every single night....
I just discovered her today. Her CD is on it’s way to me.
Wow!
Smiles, hi Vera 🌺 😊
Hello Vera how are you doing today??
Her amazing guitar work combined with Eva's vocal interpretation makes this beyond special!!
Absolutely the most beautiful rendition of “Over the Rainbow” I’ve ever heard, she made it her own and brought a tear to my eye. Such a loss.
So grateful to have this live concert of Eva. Such an intimate setting with every song evoking such raw beauty and soul. The band was spectacular as well. Her voice is timeless and I know it will inspire generations to come. ...When I think of how young she was taken from us, it makes me cry. I’m a cancer survivor and understand having faced my own mortality. My only solace is God must have needed her more. Even now, on days when I struggle with life long recovery, her voice helps me face and some how...to heal. ❤️
Lori Stegner I’m a 33 year survivor from cancer and the radiation treatments fried me so bad I had both shoulders replaced and bone grafts on both hips and all this was from 3 years to 9 years after I got diagnosed in 1990, shoulder 93, hip 96, shoulder 98, hip 99. Then in 2016 had aortic valve replaced one bypass and a pacemaker put in and heart Dr told me everything under my rib cage is fried from radiation treatments long ago and looks like leather. But this is the easy part of my life for believe it or not in 1973 I met a girl from Alaska in Toronto Canada September 1,1973 and her brother gave me his sister’s hand in marriage because I had a Draft Card for the Vietnam War when I was 18 years old that year. Well in my failed attempts to get to an unknown location in Alaska from Niagara Falls NY my family had me put in restraints because they said I had an imaginary wife and daughter Jewelry, long story short in Jewel Kilcher’s Songs Foolish Games and Enter from the East are about Me and the situation I just mentioned and I ended up in the Special Olympics August 25,1974 three months after I heard a whisper the girl in Alaska had a daughter and named her Jewel !!! 😢
Hello Lori how are you doing today??
Autumn Leaves. Takes my breath away and moves my heart
The crown jewel of this concert, IMHO. Get sucked ALLLLLL the way in every single time!
Absolutely. My most loved song exquisitely rendered, none better.
Absolutely - it tears at my heart.
Eva is in the pantheon of the seminal Ladies of Song: Ella, the Sparrow (Piaf), Janis ... and a handful of other phenoms. So grateful for whoever posted this live set on video!!!

Your not biased your telling the truth.

But it never occurred to me to try and get there after marrying young, and living closer still. Life's coincidences can be painful sometimes. I'm a great grandmother now, did some singing myself late in life, and only discovered Eva, 11 years my junior and long-gone, here. Thank you, G-d for TH-cam!
With everything my family and I have experienced recently, I needed *THIS* more than anyone could possibly know. So so so very grateful that her legacy lives on. Her music (for me) has calmed so many storms. My spirit feels less broken.
It's like the comment above, thank God they recorded this. She is so flawless with this live performance, which is demonstrative of how effing good she was.

What a s absolutely beautiful voice, very can sing both blues and jazz. Lovely! So terribly sad we lost her so young. Reminds me a little of Bonnie Raitt
@@michelesmith899 I was thinking that myself on the blues tunes. She's like Bonnie without the rasp, but better. Oops, sorry Bonnie, I'm still a huge fan and always have been.

I feel the same , joyful tears, every time I watch the documentary, “Timeless Voice” 😂 and listen to her albums over and over again 😊
Sadly she was completely unknown outside the D.C./Delaware area in 1993. We are all forgiven for not noting her brilliance then, but will always worship what she was.
Had i a Golden thread & songbird. The best EVER!!!! iam 38 man 😢everytime❤❤❤❤ .
She was, and still is for me, one of the most beautiful singers I have ever listened to. She is still alive through her songs, beautiful gifts that she has left between us. LOVE YOU EVA!!!
I never had a day listening for many years over and over again could feel the holy Spirit every time
She was already prepared to die. She was dying of metastatic melanoma & wanted to leave a legacy for her self. She truly did with the recordings she made!
Thank you Bryan McCulley for recording this and sharing it.
She was an Angel wandering along us!
With a voice so pure and strong, to give all who she left, love and hope!
No words can describe how happy I am for this vid. 55 whole minutes with eva cassidy live singing. Yasssss
So amazing ... the way she sings over the time , over the chords ... that 's jazz feeling !!!!
I discovered her after she'd left us too. She was just awesome and I play her music all the time. Thank you Eva.
I can listen to Eva every day and never get tired of her perfect voice!
everyday...without fail. pure sunshine
I bought five of her CD’s and they are in my car and listening to them is like magic to my ears
Like a Live Concert better soundtrack then on TH-cam on my cellphone
No one ever did it better than Eva Cassidy.

RIP x
One of the very best voices of the last 100 years. She was a natural. Just stunning.
She is my favorite female vocal with Ella Fitzgerald. Autumn Leaves gives me goosebumps every single time.

Thank you. The whole concert is wonderful. I've watched Rainbow thousands of times and to this day I cannot get through it without tearing up.
Hello friend how are you doing😊🤗
You too?
When someone mentions a song to me, if Eva sang it, that is what I hear in my head. She OWNED everything she sang.
I hear her songs when there is nothing being played or even if the radio is on in my car I hear her singing 🎤 in my mind it’s unbelievable in all my 66 years of life I’ve never experienced anything like this I was a big rock and roll 🎸 fan in my past with Mountain, Genesis, Grateful Dead, Moody Blues, Tom Petty and King Crimson but now all I can listen to is Eva Cassidy
Time After Time. Eva is brilliant. A shining light in a dark sky.
Love love love this gorgeous voice!
Smiles, hello Wendy 🌺 😊
Until a few years ago when a person mentioned her on a radio station, and played a song by Eva, I had never before the authentic sound that came from the soul...the voice most conveys a feeling that I have heard in my life. How tragic to lose this young elder...
❤🌹
Her style and playing are just so perfect for each song, and her band is second to none. They never overplay, and when they solo they round the song with just the right touch. This is one of the finest performances I've ever heard.
Sometimes I despair for the modern world, internet and 24 hour news but at least with you tube we can share moments of total magic that might have been lost like Eva never to be lost now.
