I also only add salt and a little basil. I make small batches as the tomatoes ripen in my garden, so a food mill works fine for me. It freezes well, too.
@confidenshal-learnwithkay1511 you dont need to do that. if you accidentally bump the top it could cause some serious food poisoning. just leave them after water bath canning. they seal fine on their own upright.
@@confidenshal-learnwithkay1511 You'll see many homesteaders doing this same thing of hand-tightening the lids, turning the hot, filled jars upside down onto a cloth and covering with a towel to ensure a good seal and let the product gradually cool. A very satisfying feeling, this. 😊
✨ Hi love, for your convenience, feel free to find the full recipe linked in the description box of the videos. Here you go: themodernnonna.com/italian-tomato-sauce/ ❤️ Enjoy!
Curious to know why you turn the jars upside down? Our Italian friends make it using long neck beer bottles and they don’t turn them upside down. Genuinely curious. 🙂
I swear I want to cry because those sauces all look sexy. But I always wanted to know why they have to boil the jars when it's done now I'm getting hungry cuz now I want some of that sauce and pasta and garlic bread.
@@themodernnonna will you let me know if you give a try, or know anyone who succeeded at it? I won't be able to try this until January, the hottest of summer where I live
Hello hun, if you make them like us, they will keep fresh in the pantry or cantina for 2 years. We still have sauce from 2019 and 2021 that’s perfect. Make sure you store them in a cool dark place.
We purchased our machine at Nella Toronto, but you can also look online or go in store and they will direct you best. I will link the website and our electric tomato squeezer here: www.nellaonline.com/products/nella-0-40-hp-tomato-squeezer-18902

Would a hand cranked meat grinder work to squeeze the tomatoes? Or it would waste too much produce?
Good question, but I've not tried that so Im not sure.
