Crazy to think most of these guys are in their early 40's now, some even 50. And the quality of the cameras weren't the best but somehow it still feels like just yesterday with the filming. Like I'm still waking up in my old racecar bed, playing some Playstation 2 and hanging out with friends after school, and coming home to watch tv but always catching a glimpse of the war on tv. Seeing those guys when I was 8 or 9 years old. I'm 23 now, in the army national Guard and about to be deployed soon.
I know war ain't a glamorous thing, I'm just hoping that mine is memorable for the right reasons, goofy shit to look back on and not the nightmares that make you wake up sweating and shaking, or somehow making the feeling of a gun in your mouth a numbing comfort.
God bless those who went before me, God protect those who go with me.

It will be the best and worst time of your life especially if you go into any combat zone. You become trauma bonded with the only people you’ll ever find worth a damn in your entire life besides your closest family members. Your brain is going to be taken out and scrambled and put back in. Then one day the dudes you served with will be gone and you’ll never hear from them again. Then the military one day is gonna tell you “okay, go back out in the civilian world and do your best little fella”. You’ll have a few military buddies that you will keep up with for a few years but they fade out of your life eventually and that’s when the bullshit starts. No one understands you or your sense of humor, you find it hard to open up to normal people. As for me I don’t regret a single second of it, but I miss my friends. Take LOTS of pictures and cherish the moments as an e-1 - e4. Don’t be afaid of article 15s and ALWAYS do everything you’re tasked with with 110% effort

"War does not determine who is right - only who is left."
      -Bertrand Russell
I pray for every family that has lost a loved one to the horrors of war, no matter which side they fought on. Those were human beings, and they had families. They fought for what they believed was right, they made the ultimate sacrifice, and it doesn't matter whether their cause was just or not, they were simply pawns in a chess game played by people in offices.
Yes, I'm American. I know my country has done atrocious things in the name of war, and too many of my countrymen have given their lives to serve a master that does not care about them. I have 2 grandfathers that served in WWII, and not once have I ever heard them say "Boy, I'm glad I fought in that war, all of my dead friends would be happy not seeing their families as long as we won"

@@AthelstanKing The myth of Soldiers being victims is absolute silliness. Take action. Fight your oppression. Don’t just go along with it and count your lucky stars that you were on the side that wrote the book. Whether it was the “law” or not, YOU are responsible for your actions. If you did it, then that is something YOU did, not something someone MADE YOU DO.
If someone forces you or tricks you into doing something, you still did it. You failed to live by your own principles and lived for someone else. When you act for someone else, you are COMPLETELY responsible. Displacing that responsibility onto a “leader” is the greatest source of human shame and misery.

@@Chris-fn4dfit’s clear you weren’t around back then.
I joined the Army Infantry after 9/11. I wanted to do all I could to prevent attacks like that from ever happening again. Uncle Sam said Iraq was a threat so we invaded - hard. Back then we trusted our government. The moment I found zero weapons of mass destruction is when I realized monsters ruled the world.
I never fired a shot. Didn’t need to because the Republican Guard literally deserted and months later became the insurgency. I was on the front lines in Baghdad in ‘03 ‘04 & ‘05 and I didn’t shoot once. Mostly because I was a Recon troop and we were fighting ghosts, but also because I understood we were warring in someone’s neighborhood. Tried to win hearts and minds. I wanted zero regrets and I have none.
Tour one, after we invaded, I was smoking cherry flavored hookahs with elders. M4 in one hand and tea in the other. Our early convoys were like parades and smiles. I’ve had half of a dozen Muslim fathers walk up to me on the street at a safe house, with their daughters in their best dresses, formally asking me to marry their daughter and bring her back to the US.
The locals loved us for about a month in Baghdad and then Bush broke up the Ba’ath Party, all hope was lost, and we were caught in the greatest urban conflict in human history. It sucked.
Once you gain some wisdom, you’ll begin to understand nuance, and how you should have kept your mouth shut when you were younger…

For many of these war things, I feel a lot of nostalgia for something I would not even be born for almost 10 years after the fact. I'm 14, and yet i somehow feel like I was there in a past life or something. By god have my dreams of it been horrible, and I expect it was a hundred times worse in reality. I saw this on a completely unrelated video, but "we made it back lads, let us drink for those who did not."

It was all short minorities back then too brother, nothing had changed on that front. Hispanics are like the backbone of the marine corps

Race has nothing to do with this, the democrat government letting illegals flood through instead of real immigrants who work and build the nation though.
