I have a red MST. It has a dry clutch Duc sound at idle that is felt through the bars and V-4 smooth off idle. The high end suspension and light weight Oz wheels allow the Z-rated rubber to stick like glue making up for lack of ABS. I don't like the KTM head light assembly but my red w/ red striped silver wheels is a beaut IMO. The Baby Block Detroit engine is what sold me on this beast. It is a unique American make hot rod.
This is the best bike I have ever ridden. On the demo ride I took the owner of @MotusMotorcycle was leading on twisty streets doing triple digit speeds. The bike had so much power left it was crazy. I'd own one in a second.
it's a riders bike. I've ridden half a million miles in all conditions on 4 motorcycles and never owned a bike with abs or ride modes. It's amazing I survived this long. Before long , people will not have or need riding skills, the bike will ride for them. Lee Conn, president of Motus is also a friend of mine. He is a purist, and he is a passionate rider. People who are hung up on the looks or price , don't get it. THis bike is a masterpiece of an engineering exercise. If you buy a HD Ultra or Indian Roadmaster , it's $30K. The standard MST is $30K and it's much more motorcycle than either the HD or Indian. By the way, the windshield is surprisingly effective.
Wow... half a million miles?! I bow to you road god lol. I agree that there are some bikes out there already that prevent true riding skill. Say hi to Lee for me and thank him for making such an incredible machine!
i will tell him hi and I'm going to send him your video, honestly though, he has probably already seen it :) that is just the kind of guy he is. . THat's another thing I like about Motus, you email them, Lee is usually the one to reply. You email Motus and the president of Motus is the one answering your question. Pretty remarkable as to how in tune and connected he is with the business. BTW, i have that many miles because I don't own a car. I ride year round to work and also it is our source of recreational and vacation riding too.
It doesn't lack ABS or rider modes because it's "pure," it lacks them because developing those electronics costs radically more than the rest of the bike. I bought a Multi in part because it has great rider aids. I don't engage the ABS or traction control unless I'm being goofy to mess with it intentionally, but I like that they're there. I don't need to impress anyone with my amazing credentials, if ABS kicks in one time some shit happens, it will be worth the price I paid 100 times over. It's insurance, it's not "riding the bike for me."
Aparently it is not a V8 cut in half....they make their own aluminum cast and everything from ground up. Big respect....very cool bike...I would buy this not a Ducati or BMW
Hey DukeOfDC! Great meeting up with you this past Saturday. I enjoyed the video and I will say you are more grave than I am. I saw the price tag and backed off of it. But I still commend you on taking the Motus out and the video on it.
I don't get the people who hate on this bike. Form follows function and it does not hide much.I have never ridden anything with rider aids. i wonder how many bad habits get covered up by them?
WOW!! I love the story behind this bike and hope those guys sell a million of them. And kudos to you, DC, for doin some homework; you seemed to know about the bike than the salesman. I seem to recall reading they used coilpacks and sparkplugs from the Corvette in this motor... maybe why they call it a baby LS?
Well, when the closest thing to a fast sport touring bike boils down to an s1000XR, H2SX, and this.. if you want a bike configured for speed and real comfort .... there ain’t much for you in regards to what to buy with power north of 160hp. I actually like what they've done, not a copy of the other bikes... if a Harley Rider wanted a naked sorry bike, this would be the ticket! American made as well as the LS platform... 👍🏼
I don't know why people are hating on the looks of this bike so much. It looks almost exactly like the KTM RC8 if it were a sport tourer, and people love the look of that bike.
I would buy this bike in a hot second, if i could afford it, without even a test ride. I hope the company enjoys long term success, so i could get one before im too old ! Maybe the price will come down some eventually, maybe not. This bike could possibly go the way of the Vincent Black Shadow i think, just increasing in value over time due to limited production. Clearly not for everyone, but good job guys.
Man, I still get mad every time I see a video on one of these damned things. I followed the development of this bike from the very start. I loved the concept and what they were trying to accomplish. Then snippets of the engine started being circulated; then the first prototypes. Then in 2011 they brought a couple of pre-production bikes out on a PR tour and I caught them up at Alice's Restaurant in NorCal. I actually got to meet Lee and Brian and I sat on the bike. I was hooked. I could not wait for this bike to be released. But there was always that nagging question that no one would answer - the price. Well, you know how the story ends. They took what was supposed to be "the American Sport Touring bike for the American rider". Yes, that was a quote - and went full-on, bullshit boutique with it. Now all of a sudden it's a "Comfortable American Sportbike" and they charged 40 f*cking thousand dollars for the thing. With no IMU, no TC, No rider modes - come on, man. A V4S, R1M, A friggin Top of the Line KBike costs way less than this in today's money!! Oh sure, 31 for a base model - but nobody is gonna go with just the base. Anyway, the day they finally released that info my heart broke and I walked away. Mid-twenties, I would have bought for sure. Forty? Kiss my ass. And here they are - dead and gone. Shame that.
The problem with these small production number vehicles is that it's prohibitively expensive to develope electronics for them, like abs and tc. On something as big and expensive as that, I would definitely want electronics. Still, very cool and exciting! 👍
according to "motorcyclist mag july/aug" the creators built this without the electronics cause thats what they wanted so that its the rider who has to adjust to each condition and not rely on electronic aid

My Hondas are nice for adding the miles (7.3 gallon tank, ridden mildly 50mpg or so, each has over 100,000 miles) but have hit the lack of support age (2003 was the last year ST1100P were made, and mine are '91 models) and I'm currently doing an alternator swap as the orignal is no longer available. Some of the bodywork is no longer available, and other parts are not listed but knowing what works from other models helps. Honda built a bike that easily runs over 200,000 miles, but the parts support is gone well before most of the things are worn out. With that torque the Motus can get decent mileage (I've heard in the 40's but not positive if those are accurate) but the use of automotive parts makes getting it fixed 100,000 miles down the road a lot easier.
Like with all things for rich people, the fact is if you can afford the Motus, it might save you more money than a cheap bike. This will definitely be a collector bike, so in ten years selling it for the new MSRP or better could easily be possible.
Thanks for the video. How was the sideways rev torque? Obviously not enough to make it come off the kickstand but was it noticeable when you twisted the throttle going down the road? Only a few decent vid reviews on tube of this American bike, rare as the bike itself. I wont link on your vid but these are the names of the channels jaylenosgarage, padayswagger, and twowheelobsession. If there is a next time forget the price, just ride and enjoy. Those $20k bikes you ride aren't exactly spare change man :)
A CBR600 is definitely not 350lbs. Second, this motorcycle's engine physical size is nearly 3x the size of a CBR600RR at 1600cc vs 600cc which makes weight that much more impressive. Third, comparing this bike and a Motus is apples and oranges. The CBR is designed to go around a track as quick as possible. This Motus is designed to go across the country quickly and in comfort. With that said, this bike's weight to engine to feature ratio is VERY impressive when comparing it to other bikes in its class like the BMW K series bikes.
i think im still in love with the rsv4... but this bike is very cool. Uughlllly, but cool. i used to walk by the confederate shop all the time and they are truly craftsmen and i can appreciate the hard work those guys put in... but i aint got 40k to drop on a bike😢

If I had 30-40, for a bike, I'd still buy an FJR1300. No offense to those "Bama boys", but coming out with this, right now, and at that price ? I DO commend you for that 1650cc v4 engine, and 160-180 ponies. As a guy who's been riding motorcycles. for 40 years, and had 11 cycles. My suggestion would have been to add something really innovative in the electronics. Such as a proprietary, jam up integrated bluetooth stereo and helmet system. I explained to him how I Velcro my Galaxy S7 to my tank bag, use an inline mp3 Amplifier, and a set of Bose noise cancelling ear buds, with full helmet. He was intrigued, and wanted to know more about the 8000 mile trip I took, and how the phone, ear buds, and amp, worked out. It's amazing when you can cancel 3/4 of the road noise. Fatigue drops, over a long day by 90%.. I have Pandora, Tunein Radio, and Audible. I listened to Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, while traveling 952 miles in one day from Peoria, Il. to Rapid City, Sd. Motus, I think you guys have a winner, but I'd offer something, no one else has, as an incentive to ride................ a LONG way. I'll bet Bose would love to have a crack at designing something for your machine.
So many commenters call the bike "ugly". I must not be cued in to millenials' ideas of beauty, because this bike looks very similar to a lot of really garish bikes out there these days. I guess my tastes haven't been educated in the modern style to the point where I can discriminate between "looks like an insect--fabulous" and "looks like and insect--yecch!"
It occured to me they just stamp as much brands on as possible to not have to design this themselves. same with the engine being taken? This might also be the reason they say they dont like electronics. trying to bring it like "our bike you have to manually control" Its not like they could create a bike with electronics.
I like that motorcycling drew a talent out of the auto trade. The fellow brought what he knew, and it is principled to build a bike that doesn't break. Electronics is impressive but more stuff to go wrong.
I looked at one this week. Very pricey. I think the instrument cluster, is less than impressive. To me any bike that commands $30,000 - $40,000, ought to have electronics to match the price.
I prefer a Ducati Multistrada for half the price, because I want my brand new bike to be fixed if the electronics break. KTM might fix them, if they feel generous, and you ask nicely. Seriously, go read the KTM USA warranty, it's hilariously bad. They couldn't shove that far enough.
the frame ...1000$ ...they pay 1000 $ for the designer of this bike and they put 37000 $in shock, brake .motor , tires ,rim ,paint and windshield!....lol
That's a V4, not a twin. That's why you have another exhaust in the other side, with the other 2 cylinders/manifolds I find ugly as heel, man. lol. But nice exercise, i guess. Wouldn't want one, still... and no fucking way for that price.
Rider aids should be at least optional though.....abs....tcr...at least. Let the purist buy without, but the rest of us should have a choice.....both tcr and abs can save your .....ss,
It's not only hideously ugly, it sounds like a lawnmower. And if you've had the chance to look at one up close, the workmanship is terrible. It is very much a bits and pieces bike. They put parts wherever they could make them fit. Most of the bike is made out of existing aftermarket parts, which is good, because the actual Motus parts are JUNK. I could weld together a frame better than that. It looks like it was made in China (maybe it was) The frame is a nightmare of dozens of hundreds of tiny pieces welded together. Instead of using hydroforming (like H-D did on the V-Rod) to make a nice smooth frame, it looks like it was made of toothpicks. Not only is the welding bad in general, but so is the design. Some of the sections were welded together in a way that pieces shouldn't be welded together. They even used weld for filler in some places, and did not smooth anything out. The paint is terrible, it was badly scratched and had lots of swirls on a brand new bike. The plastics seem brittle and don't fit together properly. Basically this looks like something a semi skilled mechanically inclined person cobbled together in their garage. Not even close to the quality of a Japanese bike. Not even close to H-D either. This company will fail. It has to. There aren't enough dumb people in this country with enough money to buy one to keep it going.
Gerald Scott didn’t see that at my dealer... I will definitely go check for that at my dealer... They recently gave up Honda cause their sales were terrible
OK. I've been watching bike videos for 1mth now and most of you have your cam video recorder on your helmet. Did it occur to you that we are not seeing what your seeing!!!!!!!!! Rarely does anyone show the bike, so fucking annoying. This time you do, but from our perspective we are looking at it from 10ft above it. Remember "we are not there" seeing things through your eyes!
I'm sorry but you must not be talking about my video. Not only do I show the bike in a full walk around (as I almost always do), but my helmet camera is placed so that it is not 10ft above the bike, but below my eyes and above my chest, which with super-view on gives the best perspective. I implore you to go out and film a better motovlog.

This might also be the reason they say they dont like electronics. trying to bring it like "our bike you have to manually control" Its not like they could create a bike with electronics.
Very interesting point! It may be just that or a combination of why engineer it in house if a company is already doing it the best?
I like that motorcycling drew a talent out of the auto trade. The fellow brought what he knew, and it is principled to build a bike that doesn't break. Electronics is impressive but more stuff to go wrong.
there's no break-in period for that bike
+tim vander how?
either they already break it in or the engine doesn't need it break it one of the two
+tim vander interesting
it was in a video that they made. they were talking about the bike and they said that it doesn't need a break in
Baby block Waaaahhhh too much too soon!!🍭
So it costs about 6k more than a Panigale R... I know they are completely different segments of the market, but yeah, I'll pass.
Goede video :-)
Thank you!
I looked at one this week. Very pricey. I think the instrument cluster, is less than impressive. To me any bike that commands $30,000 - $40,000, ought to have electronics to match the price.
honestly could be 40,000 but ugly AF, prefer an ktm 1290 adventure about for haf of price
it can be from Narnia than i would prefer any other bike
They sell just the engine too.

That’s not a realistic comparison.
That's a V4 not a V-Twin. Half a V8.
+Homme_Simon I know lol... did no one see the little text things I put on he screen when I made the mistake...
DukeOfDC I didn't see anything but you mentioned that it's a V4 the second time so all is good.
And.......... they went out of business
Interesting bike but too expensive IMO. I agree with others that it's not very nice looking. Thanks for the video though.
Definitely a pricey bike!
If your riding it for how it looks, somehow you've done it wrong.
My dad had the opportunity to buy one for 14 grand
styling looks 20years old.
the styling should match the attitude of the motor.
I would go look and try it for $20k, no way I would pay 40, no way.
Even $20k is expensive for a bike
the frame ...1000$ ...they pay 1000 $ for the designer of this bike and they put 37000 $in shock, brake .motor , tires ,rim ,paint and windshield!....lol
I want it.. i want it so bad... lol
That's gotta be one of the poorest attempts at a wind screen I've seen in a while. Looks like none would have been better.
That's a V4, not a twin. That's why you have another exhaust in the other side, with the other 2 cylinders/manifolds
I find ugly as heel, man. lol. But nice exercise, i guess.
Wouldn't want one, still... and no fucking way for that price.
+Jorge Silva I know it's a V4, hence the little text blurbs when I mistakenly said it was a twin.
Damn that think sounds like a box of rocks. You’re not the best reviewer I have watched, or listened to. But I digress....
Lol I'm glad you feel you can be honest with me. There are a lot of really amazing reviewers out there that should be able to help you
the bike looks a little ugly but it would be a sweet bike to own
+smurfrides I'm telling you, it's better in person
DukeOfDC yea I know some bike look weird in pics and vids but in person it's a whole different story lol
Rider aids should be at least optional though.....abs....tcr...at least. Let the purist buy without, but the rest of us should have a choice.....both tcr and abs can save your .....ss,
They should, and I foresee them as being mandatory in the very near future.
Exceptional review, I wish you would come out of retirement and also set up a PayPal account so I can send you some money.
For 40k they should have at least put on Rizoma mirrors
And stuffed $20k under the seat lolz
Legitamently the ugliest bike you could of rode.
+Lilmaderr23 savage 😂🤣
DukeOfDC Still a good video though. Should of wheelied the ugly duckling.
+Lilmaderr23 hilariously enough, I was told to not wheelie right as I walked up to it
legitimately...
DukeOfDC Haha that's funny. Looks like it had plenty of power to do it! You think it's over rated? Too much in a bike?
Extremely well made, great quality, high end parts but......ugly as shit. Lol
One gallon each 7 kilometers hahaha
Rather have a Vmax. Just as ugly, but half the price.
Make motorcycle ugly again!
It's defiantly really ugly......
I guess I'm first and no one cares
+Bike Life I care 😍
DukeOfDC because you're the best
Americans should stick with Harleys... Don't take this as an offense
Why?
