Gotta thank you my man. You've been inspiring my playing for a long time now - learning from your phrasing and voicing. Thank you for the quality of your work, both on backing tracks and solos. Keep safe!
Took me a minute but that change going from Dmaj7 to Bm7 is totally the same change to "Don't Say Goodnight" from the Isley Brothers! Love this backing track and when listening to it the first time I was like...Whoa, back up! HAHA!!! Great stuff and a blast to jam over with my horn!
This is so cool and beautiful. Your solo style is awesome. It feels like a perfect balance of rock, blues, country, and jazz. I salute you on your excellence.
Adjustable speed on this is fantastic. Great practice. I didn't know you could adjust the speed on TH-cam videos till today. Lmao. This groove is 👌 . Love that he puts up charts, chord progressions, and plays solo over for some suggestions/ examples. With a looper I now am confident to jam in front of folks thanks to these.
Dude, I’ve been playing heavily over your backing tracks. they’re My favorite on TH-cam and are Helping me progress so much. The style you play in is how I’ve always wished I could play. Recently I bought a new guitar as motivation to practice again and it’s this exact same deangelico. Had no idea you played this one. So sick. Thanks for all the inspiration!
So tasty. excellent chord choice for leading tones. Really gets me out of the box and moving around into other tonal ideas. I have no idea what all I just played but it was from my soul. Thanks
Love your tracks, but just can't imagine ever being able to play over the changes on these complicated chords. G#m7b5 ! I see that and my heart sinks! I started at 53. Guitar really is the most challenging thing I've ever done. Seven years in, and I feel like I'm still trudging up the foothills!
Thanks for the videos man, very helpful ! I love to watch you solo the tracks after struggling myself during 10 minutes, that pissed/amazment feeling is the best xD
That is great man. Your soloing at the end really helps me get ideas and helps figure out things I need to practice. Only thing I’d like to see more of is showing how you are playing the rythm better, it can be hard to try and figure out the chords just from the names, especially the slash chords. But great stuff nonetheless.
Increlible el solo, derrama buen gusto y musicalidad! Mi mas profunda admiración... Saludos! The solo is incredible, he exudes good taste and musicality! My deepest admiration... Greetings!
Gotta say, that A Ionian chart sitting there the whole time is misleading. There are an awful lot of nondiatonic chords here, A7 Em9 A13 G13 B7 C#7. I'd say less than half of these chords are even diatonic to the key of A/F#m. Not that it's a problem for me, cause I understand a decent amount of jazz harmony, but it will definitely confuse a lot of beginners.
Its not misleading at all. The chord changes might have some non diatonic chords in them but the song is still in the key of A Major. You can play nothing but A major scale over the entire song and it would sound great as long as you are playing the changes and hitting the tention notes when applicable.
@@americoperez810 Haha! You are funny. Less than half the chords are even diatonic to A Major. It’s not even debatable. This is jazz harmony but telling someone to play tonally over the top. It absolutely will confuse beginners. Do you think beginners have any idea about “playing the changes” and jazz harmony? Not to mention using the modal title of A Ionian, as if that were exactly synonymous with “the key of A Major” is also fallacious. This is why the internet screws up so many beginner’s paths from the get-go. You just said “sure it’s all in A Major so long as you know how to modulate practically every chord per chord-scale theory.”
@@SelfPropelledDestiny I literally just finished playing A major over the whole thing..... How are you gonna tell me? Have you even tried to do it yet? Also, just because you have non diatonic chords and it has "jazz harmony" doesnt meant that the song cant have a tonal center. In this case, that tonal center is A Major, the very first chord of the song and the chord that sounds like Home. When I said "playing the changes" I didnt mean literally. I meant more like following the flow of the music. If there are tension chords then just play tention notes like the 7th of A major. If not then play stuff around the 1, 3, adn 5. Just because there are non diatonic chords in the song doesnt meant it has to be complicated.
@@americoperez810 We are not talking about simply “tonal center”. Sure the overall piece is in A. What is misleading is a chart of “A Ionian” being displayed as these chords go by. If the chart was ever-changing to “play the changes” then it would be valid but it doesn’t. All I said was that beginners will not know anything about what we are talking about, and they will continue trying to play the same A major scale over every chord that happens. There is no explanation for a beginner of what to do with the chords. That’s the misleading part.
You literally CAN play A major over the entire thing. I dont see how its not valid. Again.... have you at least tried it? I just did it again to make sure I wasnt talking out of my ass.@@SelfPropelledDestiny
Nice Chords, but this is not a soundtrack to jam in one scale, because the change at A7 over Em9 to G13 needs E dorian (over Dmaj7 you have to avoid the G from the Dorian scale)
Oh yeah, settle in for a sweet conversation with your guitar. Thanks for that one.
As a metal head, this really shows how lost I can get.
Me too man. Shreds sound good over this too though :P

Hey everybody this is a great one to practice your swing lines with.
Nice progression
Love this one. Kinda sounds like if all the tunes on Gutherie Govan's record were distilled into one.
Your work is great Tom. It would be helpful to include the chord diagrams on the tab sheets. Thank You.
Would love to see chords change over the top of these with charts for us learners !!
That first phrase, man.
Increlible el solo, derrama buen gusto y musicalidad! Mi mas profunda admiración... Saludos!
The solo is incredible, he exudes good taste and musicality! My deepest admiration... Greetings!
Delicious!!
