@@kwakerjak but still this isn't normal but bc they were so backed up the are spoiling a lot Warhammer 40k uninfinity and this one while dominaria just came out
Just so everyone knows, cards like Bag of Holding that exile cards you discard will still work with this effect as long as it isn't a replacement effect. The trigger for Bag of Holding won't resolve until after this ability finishes, so the cards you are discarding that meet the requirement will still be put on the battlefield.
Even if it's a replacement effect, Kayla doesn't specify what zone the cards are returned from or discarded to, which is very important as it means the official ruling is she can find the cards you discarded, regardless of which zone you discarded to.
Library of Leng would go with this commander fantastically. If a spell or effect would cause you to discard a card, you may discard to the top of your library. Plus, it's a 1-drop, so it can be played with the commanders ability. That way, you can preserve the cards that don't meet the 3 or less requirement, and you draw them back
If you want to maximize on this commander play all 2 mana [mana rocks and mana rock creatures] Than run X cost creatures, Enduring renewal, sac outlet creatures, like 6 wheel spells and this thing will easily be winning by turn 4-5 consistantly
I am new to edh. I want to make a budget friendly sliver deck. I would like to use queen kayla bin-kroog as my commander to put into play the slivers that are not red or white. Is that something I can do, or do all my spells have to be red and white?
The two commanders I would love to see a deck built around or any tips on building is Nekusar the mindrazer and Sarulf, realm eater. They just seem like fun commanders to play with, but I don’t know where to start with them.
Nekusar has to be among the top "most hated" commanders in all of the formats history XD HE's a great helm for a deck, if you're looking to loose friends fast :)
Reading this comment made me remember that I love Sarulf and also wanted to brew around him. After some pondering, the best that I could come up with was land creatures and really expensive permanents (like, a majority of everything is cmc 5 and up). Since Sarulf exiles nonland permanents it made sense to me. With a focus on ramp and removal, removal mainly through planeswalkers like Vraska and Garruk, and a bunch of the really ridiculous high cmc ramp spells (Boundless Realms, Reshape the Earth, Verdant Confluence, etc.) (plus, regular ramp too, obviously). It's the best way I could see to build it while being fun to play but not overly obnoxious to play against... That being said, you could also twist it into running ALL the green and black removal, with still a focus on ramp to have more open mana and just buffing up sarulf whilst using his board wipes to clear out anything your opponents try to do...I just didn't see this as very fun personally, I might try to brew it like this too though and see how it plays...we'll see, haha.
I played a lot of nekusar, best way is to just run wheels with payoffs and a lot of board wipes or creatures to protect you, the extra draw effects for table end up losing you the game usually. But you will get a lot of hate as stated before
Wouldn’t Psychosis crawler die from state based actions? The time between you discarding your hand and drawing he would have 0 toughness, even if only for a moment, Right? Edit: If I’m wrong someone please correct me lol
SBAs are checked when a player has priority; so when a spell or action is resolving they wont be checked for having 0 toughness, or a player for having 0 life.
In my opinion Kayla it's a bit convoluted for my taste, nor quick enough to use normally the effect or powerful enough to excuse the round in table waiting a removal. My issue with the card comes from the 1, 2, 3 cost, in a vacuum this effect sounds brutal, but the moment you give it some thought it start to crumble. If you had a turn 1, 2 and 3 play in hand before casting the Queen and have to wait to summon sickness and pay 4... why not just deploy them on the 3 turns? If you sum up the MV and activation cost you neither get discount nor separated card advantage, only when you do both it gets to + territory. To Kayla be in any way relevant, you need to 1st be able to protect her till next turn, 2nd hoard enough hand to make for the 4 spend mana and finally 3rd get to you main phase unscathed cause they even give her a sorcery speed. Either you have a really niche combo that needs the pieces in play the more brief, the better or this is one of the most convoluted ways I've seen on mtg of getting a vanila.
"Why not just deploy them on the 3 turns?" Because they don't draw you replacement cards into your hand if you'd played them directly. Even if you're only getting out a 1 and 2 CMC card with Kayla, that fourth mana you "overspent" can be well worth it to retain card advantage. And if you're running a deck rich with 1-3 drops (which you should be if you're building around this card), even *if* you played a card on turns 1-3 on curve, chances are you'll still have others in hand that you *weren't* able to play yet that this can cheat out *and* replace with new cards in your hand. I had this card in my sealed booster prerelease event deck tonight and when I was able to get it on the table, I was basically unstoppable.
@@Drysart Ok, you were unstoppable on sealed, with decks dry on removal, let's see how well that plan goes when a cut down/strangle make you lose the 3rd turn played.
@@Drysart Not really, as long as I get value through ETB, EOT or at least a ward effect to make it more difficult to kill it would be inmensely better. To use Kayla, it has to survive your turn, their turn and even get to main phase.
So where effect is awarded incorrectly. It says return those cards to the battlefield. Those cards were never on the battlefield in the first place and thus cannot return. One could make the argument that that part of her effect is utterly useless.
Isn’t she white skinned in the comic?? I don’t remember if it describes her skin color in the book. Did they retcon her skin? Lol I mean I’m all for it. Doesn’t really change anything. But I’m pretty sure she was white
Kayla was white-looking in the comic, yes. I've seen people mention her being "alabaster-skinned" in the book, but I don't remember that from my reading. Also, we've got Hurkyl's new design, and she's been made white instead of Arab-coded as she was in the 90s. Ashnod is redheaded and pale-skinned, like she was on the Vanguard card, but a fair bit more waifuish now. It seems like a missed opportunity not to give them more middle-eastern designs, considering the real-world cultures the source material was riffing on, but it's probably not that big a deal. Ashnod is supposed to look like an outsider, anyway, and Kroog being an aracial culture might be fresh in its own way.
White-scrubbing. It's the pathetic post-modern response to what these types would refer to as "white-washing." WotC (Hasbro) is notorious for chasing that positive ESG score. Pointless things, like the skin color of a made-up character, either matter or they don't but these obsessed freaks have no convictions. Whether it does or does not matter depends entirely on appeasing their agenda. Don't hold your breath waiting for a Secret Lair drop featuring a blue-eyed, European Teferi.
I think it is worded that way because the cards are regarded as having already been discarded and are now in the graveyard and the wording for reanimating cards usually uses "return" in its wording.
That's not a typo. "Return to the battlefield" is the standard verb phrase for moving a card from the graveyard or exile into the battlefield. It does not require that the card was ever in the battlefield originally.
My favorite part is how they race swapped the character and made her alt art her standing over the bodies of a bunch of white people. Pretty subtle by WotC.

In the original novel she was middle-eastern. Someone pointed out to me that everything from before the weatherlight saga is considered semicannon. Meaning its only canon until contradicted by later sets. For example they could completely rewrite the brothers war and they wouldnt need a in story justification. They only not gonna do it because the outcry would be too great.

Boros artifacts (a.k.a., Lorehold (?)) just got a new best friend.

This is going to make such a crazy deck.
I hope we get a gix commander card

I have one too, this would slap and add to my draw vein. this set seems to WANT to be bonkers on the heels on DU. wild
