If people know how much the US exists to use its citizens and the world abroad. They wouldn't love it so much. But yes the US is great for exponentially growing money if you are not a salary person.
Many Koreans have negative opinion on the US. Things like health care, gun control issues, and racial divide in the states are pretty well reported in Korea.

It really depends on where you are and your insurance. I had Medicaid get me into surgery in less than 2 months and I didn't pay for it being poor. That being said, I lived in a state that funded it well. I make 80k, and my insurance is about $83/paycheck. I pay $1600 for a deductible. The most I pay for expenses is $5000/yr. They give me $1400 into a bank account for that though. It's better than some folks and I'm lucky. My PCP and therapy visits are free. Derm was free too, psych, blood tests. A lot of my drugs were free when the insurance started kicking in... But again, you need that good plan for it to be worth while. I'm very, very lucky.
My State of California will be giving Free medical to undeserving Illegal Alien migrants, Liberals in my state are causing prices to rise for hard working class citizens that actually need it for value prices.
I feel South Korea and Japan are two of the most protected countries under the United States's security umbrella. If any of them were attacked its hard to see the US not dropping most other conflicts to focus on them.
Thank you for your honesty!! I am a big fan of South Korea and hope for your continued growth in healthy directions and honest reflection and observations regarding the US. We all need to work hard to be better and learn from each other, both from the good and what needs to be improved.
They all had good and valid points. I most definitely think US would help Korea if a war break out. The US has been allies with Korea for years. Yes the US, my home can be dangerous, and more dangerous than Korea. I still think we are the most powerful, but we lack in taking care of our own US citizens, in regards to healthcare, education, homelessness, jobs, economy. The government is screwed up so bad to the point that we honestly look like clowns here in the States. I'm glad that some Koreans see us in a positive light, but we have a lot of work to do here.
The mindset of Americans are not on the same page as Asians. When Kim and Trump were having heated exchanges, many Americans notably Caucasians and seemingly distant were calling for an attack and even nuking North Korea without a care of surrounding populations impacted. It was quite a contrast to East Asians whom were not in favor of war in the region. It's a generalization but this what was observed.
@@downtomars6268Huh?! What Americans were calling for nukes? You can't just make stuff up or take the words of a few idiots and generalize a population with words like 'many'. Where did you find this info? You gotta be a misinformation bot.
@@downtomars6268you do realize, we always called for nukes? But it never happens. Only reason NK doesn’t attack is bc of deterrence. Kim know he can’t win against us, we have to remind him.
@@matthewsnow6317 Not making it up, seen enough public discussions to say there are opposing biases and Westerners lean to war, often not in the interest of neighboring countries or peoples. The U.S. leadership Trump discussed using nukes on North Korea and blaming it on another country. Not the first time America targets East Asia for nukes. MacArthur planned to use 34 atomic bombs on Korea, China; prior we know what happened to Japan. Practically never hear such talk on other countries.
It's not that Koreans don't know about America's problems. It's also not that they like America because it's the most powerful country. They just like America because it's a country that protects liberal democracy and helps the Korean economy develop. Many Koreans, including myself, would not change our gratitude and appreciation for America even if America wasn't the most powerful country.
Korean people's views of the US tend to be of longing and a fantasy. The truth is, drugs, violence and a low quality of education, foods, and social services are just some of the big problems in the US. This is coming from someone who has lived in both countries.
As an American, this is indeed true. Most states in the US has poor education regarding the world 🌎. I'm 30 years old, and I constantly think to myself that I should relearn everything again, starting at 6th grade and up. So much has changed. I miss school. Can't afford college, so the internet is my school now.

Until Trump tries to pull out US troops from South Korea and turns a blind eye on North Korean belligerence. The reality is far from “happily ever after”. Kim Jungeun is already testing the waters to see how he reacts.
"liberal democractic countries" that have fake democracies where your vote doesn't actually matter? What is the point of "democracy" when your government doesn't act in your interest and only works for elites and defense companies? That is what happens in the US and the EU.
It's also clear that you've never been to China. Although Chinese citizens can't vote for their president directly, they vote for representatives at the local level. More importantly, the Chinese gov actually works for the common people, instead of just rich people or war machines. Actually to go China and see for yourself. I'll bet you won't be able to tell what kind of government system it has, and the living quality is way better than the US and Europe.
@@factcheck-us-media You know, I've met Chinese people, they were even guests in my house. And even my mom visited China once. But we are also very realistic, because we know history very well, andcwe see what old threats are coming back after some decades of peace, how undemocratic regimes, such as Russia, are cooperating with each other and what horrible atrocities they committ and what are they goals. And we know also very well what communism meant, and what it did to people, how much evil it brought. So definitely reality is much more complex.
Nice but i do not think they want their country where you can carry a gun everywhere and maybe one day at school, the classes become like a Call of duty battlefield with no chance of respawn

Lol whom are you telling. I literally saw South Koreans fighting with Japanese a few comments above on who the US loves the most. The South nor Japan has any national pride left in them. The South Koreans and Japanese believe the more good looking you are, the more intelligent and kind you're. If you're not that good looking in South Korea, your life's finished. Because no matter how talented you are, the people will always look down on u. No wonder the US brainwashed them so easily.
@blackbelt2000 Got nothing to do with the Japanese. In 1992, we lost everything. All these white conservatives watched those "rooftop korean" videos and all of a sudden love us and use us for their agendas, especially when they bring up riots. But in reality, they caused the riots, then abandoned us, didn't honor our insurances, and didn't march with us downtown in the aftermath.
It seems that the people interviewed made an effort not to appear biased in the public video. As a Korean, I don't think I've ever seen anyone who worries about China and the United States. Feelings toward China are closer to hate, and feelings toward the United States are closer to love.😂

There are actual opinion polls. Who will you fight with in the US vs China conflict? 95% of Koreans chose the United States. Even North Korea hates China. And the United States will consider practical interests when South Korea is in crisis. However, South Korea will help the United States if it is attacked. @@edwelndiobel1567 China didn’t and still doesn’t care about the two Koreas. China today is still supporting North Korea’s existence just because they don’t want American military bases and soldiers right at their door. I doubt they have any interests in the Korean peninsula itself at all, let alone invading it. Unlike the Americans, who actually want to have their military bases everywhere they possibly could just to show off how powerful they are. Especially around China and Russia. Every country around China today has American bases, except N. Korea and Russia.
as a korean new zealander, i see alot of ppl calling korean brainwashed for liking USA or supporting usa when they are supporting israel for genocide in gaza or making genocides around the world . but i think this mindset should stop because everyone has their own opinions. there are 7 billions people around the world and i dont get why ppl are forcing or criticising how other people think especially when they have own diff opinions. personally, usa has alot of issues such as shootings and also political issues such as withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan etc and US government made alot of bad mistakes but still it was USA that defended south Korea during the korean war and still continues to defend until today by having 30000 troops in south korea and 50000 in japan. if it wasnt for usa, then south korea would be under north korean rule which means no kpop, no kdrama, no kbeauty, no freedom/democracy, nothing. all the things that foreigners love about sk wouldn't exist today if usa didnt defend sk. despite all the problems that usa has made, majority of koreans have good image bec of it. also alot of them enjoy pop music and movies. its important that u differentiate politics with culture. even tho many korean dislike japanese government, it doesnt mean we should hate Japanese people or culture. theres alot of korean ppl that enjoy japanese culture such as anime or manga. so any people that forcing Korean to think the way they should is closeminded. its important to be open minded, accept other opinions and also mind your own business. if you dont like what u see then dont watch it. even i prefer peace between israel and Palestine. i dont want innocent ppl to die just because of relationship between two government so i dont support israel as well bec of genocide. P.S don't bother writing any negative comments bec I'm not gonna read it, if u don't like it then move on

Everything is always perfect when your life is good. The moment you're in trouble, nobody is interviewing you again. Health care is a disaster in the us. Poverty, drugs, alcohol, psychological problems, food/obesity/diabetes, prison slaves, factory farming/animal abuse, foreign policies that many times in history ruined whole countries (north and south korea divided).
Some of the best health care in the world is in the USA. The problem is it not being super accessible due to high insurance costs. There's high regulations on farming and raising animals for food or other uses that does not allow this so called "abuse" you speak of. North and South Korea are divided because one side wanted freedom and the other wanted slaves and absolute control. I do agree that the opioids are a big issue in the US. As far as poverty goes, there are poor people in all countries. But the US has social programs like cash aid, food stamps, section 8, hud and other programs to help people. Which most countries do not have. Most of the stuff you talk about are things that news stations spread false info about around the world. I can almost think you're not even American which means you shouldn't spread rumors about stuff on an country you're not even apart of or know anything about. If you are American, you need to get out of that bubble you're in and go and learn something about the US before spreading false claims and lies on the internet. Just a thought!

The situation is really not good. The government is trying whatever they can to completely control the lives of their citizens. The US is one of the most obese country in the world. The food companies are producing more and more processed food. There's no government regulation to stop it as far as I know. The sugar amounts in food products are also not controlled. Most of the insurance company tries to avoid giving out as much money as possible. The US is just a playground for the rich now, nothing else.
Everyone you interviewed was thoughtful and gave well-informed and intelligent answers. There is no doubt in my mind that we will defend the Republic of Korea if they are attacked. It won't matter how many other conflicts we are involved in. We will have enough forces to defend the ROK.
America has one of the worst health care in the world comparing to other first world countries. They have one of the best medical advancements and practice but not health care. Huge differences.
The disconnect between the Koreans interviewed and what appears on US-based media is very revealing. The relationship between the US and South Korea is transactional. The US offers a military presence, and Korea sends the US goods and KPop. Americans have no interest in visiting Korea, and neither do other countries, though China has the most tourists which can be verified by the Korean Tourism Organization. The man who actually lived in the US as a student has the most realistic view. While he does not elaborate he mentions the skewed image of the US in Korean media, the economy, and the election. It would be interesting to ask specifically about how Koreans view American politics. Would they be shocked at the length of campaigns, the amount of money spent, and the current choices for president? I was born in the US but I don't recognize the country that it has become. The open grifting and lies spewed by national politicians and the dysfunctional justice system portend a second civil war and the end of the Empire.
I was born and raised in the USA. I've spent months in South Korea. Of course that's because I was working or Samsung Telecom at the time, helping with Galaxy S phone development. Was that experience transactional? Perhaps. As an engineer, I'd argue that all interactions can be viewed as transactional, so that statement probably isn't as negative as you think it is ... unless you think one group of people has some inherent right to other people and their stuff. As far as US politics, you probably have a point.

This is genuinely just poor understanding of how geography and education works. Korea has way less people and far more concentrated groups of educated and well adjusted citizens in their urban areas.

And there are even some interesting, quite popular TH-cam channels about SK and Japan in my country: about South Korea - "Pierogi z kimchi" and "Pyra w Korei" (of two Polish women living since years in SK) or "Kim jestem" (of a Korean living since years in Poland, with both of his Korean parents who also moved to Poland, and he speaks Polish perfectly). And about Japan, the most popular channel is of Gabriel Hyodo, who is half Polish - half Japanese (his Japanese father lives since years in Poland and has a Japanese language school in Cracow). This week Gabriel went also, as a tourist, to South Korea for the first time (usually he visits Japan, where he has a grandpa), and there's a whole video from SK of him. And also "Ignacy z Japonii", a channel of a Japanese who also moved to Poland, and he also learned to speak Polish perfectly. So nowadays people do travel, are interested in the world, learn languages (also in Poland there are language schools of Korean and of Japanese), and there is cooperation especially between states that are democratic ones. And there's even a factory of kimchi in Poland, of a Korean brand "Jongga" (a Polish-Korean factory), near Cracow (because we generally like pickled food). A lot of Koreans live also in Wrocław, where's an LG factory, so there are some Korean restaurants in this city. So nowadays various countries and people may cooperate, if they share views.

Also, quick question, why does China want to be like us in every way? You hate us but wanna be us in every way 😂😂😂😂
Another way of looking at is due to US intervention, Korea was split in two with one half living under an authoritarian regime and the other half became a colony.
Because the big US social media and IT- platforms didn't want to abide by Chinese law. So they were excluded. Still they can be accessed by VPN if wanted. Look at TikTok in the US now. Maybe it gets banned as well. But the difference is, TikTok is willing to and already changing their App to abide to certain US safety laws and making clear that there is no reasonable or justified fear about national security. Still the US wishes to knock out a serious competitor in social media.

Was that experience transactional? Perhaps. As an engineer, I'd argue that all interactions can be viewed as transactional, so that statement probably isn't as negative as you think it is ... unless you think one group of people has some inherent right to other people and their stuff.
As far as US politics, you probably have a point.

Yeah, I want more older people opinions, like around 40 woman.
No need, South Koreans are the type of people who believe the more good looking you are, the more talented and better person you're. If you're beautiful in South Korea, everyone will look up to you. But still thinks uncle sam will protect them against China, just like Ukraine taught about the US against Russia.
This is genuinely just poor understanding of how geography and education works. Korea has way less people and far more concentrated groups of educated and well adjusted citizens in their urban areas. The US is far more spread out with a giant population in comparison. You're far more likely to find the dredges and less educated members of society simply because the educated people aren't actually on the streets as much as the less educated and well informed.

I'm from Europe (one of the member states of the EU and NATO), and we consider South Korea as a friendly, ally country. And from our history we do know very well how horrible it is to be under such regimes as many European countries experienced themselves, being for 50 years at the communist site of the Iron Curtain. So we don't wish it to anyone.
We Koreans also view the EU with friendly eyes. We think that the EU is the most advanced region in the world, and we even do not have any historical grudges as our enemy in the imperialist era was Japan (not the European colonial empires). I think the only problem between us is distance (western Europe and far-east Asia is too far away from each other to actively communicate cultures)
@@ignisilluminati Not all European countries had colonial past. My country (Poland) never had any overseas colonies. And despite distance, we have nowadays more contacts, and there's even cooperation between our countries, including military one (we buy currently quite a lot of military items from SK). Also more and more people, quite a lot currently, travel to South Korea as well as to Japan.

You hate us but wanna be us in every way 😂😂😂😂
You mean Occupied by the U.S. for 79 years.
Another way of looking at is due to US intervention, Korea was split in two with one half living under an authoritarian regime and the other half became a colony.
All responses seem very reasonable.
China? Ah yes, the super ultra modern country without access to the western Internet. 🤷
Bc of censorship, but still a good country imo
haha, i am looking at your comment from the so-called super ultra-modern country in your mouth.
You dumb?
They can access through vpn
@warrpedd "Western Internet" lol. You mean "US internet"
Geopolitics 101 -
-. Fully armed nuclear Japan is a threat to the US sharing the pacific ocean.
-. China is the new Soviet Union a systemic enemy/rival.
-. Korea is located right in the hub central location between the two risky countries for the US, so it's best for US to support and strengthen ties with Korea and even better if the two Koreas united to counter balance China, Russia and possible future Japanese threat(nuked grudge).
Korea's key stats :
1. High tech manufacturing capabilities - chips, military industrial complex, etc
2. Global influence - military/trade ties x soft power
3. Religion - Protestant Christian/Bhuddism + strong ties with Israel through out the history
4. Potential post reufinication new regional power house - aka undervalued atm.
5. Free democratic government with great ppl's voting power
Strong Korea+US bond makes sense
As a Korean-American, I don't support Israel's genocidal war in Gaza.
As a Korean-American, I don't support Israel's genocidal war in Gaza.
Third world country with no public Healthcare accessibility, university education and safety problems.

You must be 🧠💀. That’s American Propaganda excuses to keep Occupying S. Korea,Japan, other countries. Ever wonder why america spends so much money on their military instead of education, healthcare, or infrastructure?
As a Korean-American, I think overall the comments were fairly accurate. Yes, there are numerous problems here in the U.S., but I’m still grateful to be a U.S. citizen. I’ve visited South Korea several times in my life. However, I wouldn’t want to live there.
"I like china because when I was in EU the chinese people I met were friendly." I could go to every country on the planet and find friendly and nice people. If I don't like a country I'm probably talking about the government not the people.
@user-vf7cn3oy8g what did he do to you? You judt hate yourself
Why would you dislike the whole country and the people in it just because you do not like the government?
