That was when I was truly blown away - this build is absolutely top-notch! Limitations like size and shape really do inspire greater creativity!
Woah, this looks amazing. Imagine finding one of these, say, as a young child at your grandparents' house. "Grandma has a little world on her bookshelf!" Awesome.
hmmm... imagine this one, and another narnia scene, used as bookends for your narnia books... welp, i think i figured out what i want for xmas this year~
Oh I can’t wait to see future iterations and riffs on the original design! I am stalled for tabletop crafting right now (pandemic gaming doesn’t need it) and a book book has been on my list of projects for months! Thanks for providing the challenge!❤️🙏
Alex Hetherington the sky’s the limit. For formative books in my life, Sherlock Holmes 221B Baker Street as a nook would be interesting, or Lord of the Rings I’d go with a Hobbiton scene, or maybe Mordor, then there’s Classic sci fi like Heinlein or Asimov...or Aliens...I think due to my stress state right now I’d go with Hobbiton! A gentle escape. Oh I forgot Peter Pan...Capt. Hook on his ship tailed by the Crocodile...I could go on and on then have no room for actual books.🤓
Absolutely brilliant idea and seeing it from concept to final build was great. I love the trees on either side of the cupboard and the lighted lamppost in the background.
Such a cool project! In woodworking I've learned to draw shapes over the edge, so that each piece has part of the shape, and in assembly the shapes come together. I'd imagine that might work with laser cutting too.
You could incorporate a "fake book" to pull off the front, with a magnetic switch to turn on the lights. So, for the "forest" you could have a book that has the word trees in or something. Also, using a mirror to have it fading off into the "distance" helps the illusion. The mirror has to be spotless (first surface would be the best for the effect, but hard to keep clean) for it to work.
This is so coo! I’ve seen a couple book nooks online and I have been wanting to make one myself. I’m very excited about the blank laser cut file because now I don’t have to figure out the base and I can skip right to designing a fun little world to put on my bookshelf! Now I just need to narrow down my ideas and pick one to start with.
@@alexhetherington8028 I'm on mobile so unfortunately I cant link URLs at the moment but search Mozu studios here on YT! He has all sorts of crazy dioramas hidden in interesting places 👍
adding some different color fabrics over the cloths in the wardrobe would really make this come to life. I know it's minor, but the misaligned doorknobs drives me crazy and is all I can look at.
Jen, your book nook is an artful piece of carpentry. A window to an imaginative scenery. Well done! I also enjoyed seeing the ingenuity you put into the Cricut cabinet in a previous video. Question: do you think the basic designs provided could be just as easily created by someone only using a Cricut Maker, foam core and cardstock?
It's such a coincidence, but my wife and I decided to do a book nook together as well since we're in the forced vacation these days which is perfect for the long detailed craft project! ;)
You could get the diagram on her etsy page. Then cut it by hand with a coping saw, they are around $20. I got a Dremel moto-saw, basically a table top hobby band saw, for under $100.
@@SurleyBlaine that's a great idea. That Dremel tool sounds quite good. Since I have access to a lot of pristine, white corrugated cardboard at my work place, I may be able to cut it out on a cutting table (it's like a laser cutter, but with a knife). Certaining not as durable or sturdy as plywood, but it could be fun. My mind went to the trench run in Star Wars... that'd be fun one to make!
One of the tricks I have seen implemented in these is an angled mirror to allow the scene to turn and continue on past the back of the shelf. Or an angled hall with a mirror parallel to the front that gives a straight view that continues out of sight.
@@AlasdairGR exactly this. I love dioramas etc, and watching people building them is incredible... but I've never heard the name or this particular concept. However, now I'm considering dipping my toes into it (at least with foam board and card, if nothing else).

No it wasn't the first thing in my mind. But now it's the only idea! I can't believe I missed that😕 Absolutely perfect.😀 And of course then it has to live within the HP books.
Small things to make the diorama better would be to paint the lamp post to make it pop a bit more, add glitter or glittery paint for the snow, and glue fabric to the hung clothes layers.
