The angst. UGHHHHH! I literally bought this album THE DAY it came out. This song hit me like few others could at the time. I can still feel it all these years later. My hearts full of nostalgia
@shelbyhayden2277 have you ever seen them live? They play nearly all the time near me Long Island is just a hop skip and away actually most bands play near me in New York City I live in Princeton NJ which is just a 40-minute train ride haha
@shelbyhayden2277 that's very cool some of my favorite bands I saw them when they were just coming up and I got to see them up close because I would be in the first or second row I hate to say this but I am very good-looking and there was this band called (Always) from Canada and I was in the middle of the crowd and I can tell she was staring at me I only was confirmed this when I because I have long hair brushed it away for my face and as I did it she did it secondly she mirrored me lol I actually have a video of it happening to prove it haha it's crazy that she was actually like staring at me but it's not uncommon women very often like me but I'm not a narcissist it's just something that happened I haven't had a girlfriend in half a decade because I just have to be with somebody if I love them and for no other reason anyway that's so cool I love Taking Back Sunday
Wow, what a great song. I wasn't at all familiar with these guys; I don't know how they slipped under my radar for so long. I just finished listening to this album and this song was a brilliant close. Super cool.
This song is about Adam’s fiancee leaving him after they made plans to settle down together, obviously can also be applied in a more general sense to any relationship. LYRICS [Verse 1] We found a house with a yard And moved all of my things in And most of your things in And honey I was proud of it Yeah honey I was proud of you [Chorus] You quote the good book When it's convenient But you don't have the sense No you don't have the sense To tie your tangled tongue Instead you slash it through the mud [Verse 2] And some boxes And hand-me-down couch and chair They used to be at your church We borrowed them from there A cabinet record player With nothin' but James Taylor Tore the carpets from the corners to put in that hardwood floor I'd be a fool to have asked for more [Chorus] You quote the good book When it's convenient But you don't have the sense No you don't have the sense To tie your tangled tongue Instead you slash it through the mud You quote the good book When it's convenient But you don't have the sense No you don't have the sense To tie your tangled tongue Instead you slash it through the mud [Bridge] The love you had but couldn’t name The past that we were stuck between Beside myself I stopped to think Lord, what have I done? [Chorus] You quote the good book When it's convenient But you don't have the sense No you don't have the sense To tie your tangled tongue Instead you slash it through the mud You quote the good book When it's convenient But you don't have the sense No you don't have the sense To tie your tangled tongue Instead you slash it through the mud
Which is exactly what I did to my ex-boyfriend. We made plans to get an apartment and continue our lives together. But I left him, there's more to the story because things got out of hand one day. He was the love of my life, and I grew up listening to this band all my life, I'm 30 years old now. After we broke up I drifted away from this band, when him and I broke up. I stumbled upon this song, and I broke down because I felt like this was me. Maybe if I would have stayed and talked things through, maybe we might still be together. I miss him so much, but I can't go back in time and fix things. I know that I left him empty handed, so many people say I might the right choice. But he had to move into that apartment all by himself, and unpack those boxes alone. When it should have been him and I creating beautiful memories. Unpacking boxes together, not him doing it alone. Being happy and not caring about the little money we had. Because it wasn't much but it was all we had. Because we had each other; this song means so much to me. Because it reminds me that the pain is real and the past happened, but that doesn't mean we failed.
Agree to disagree. I think they changed their sound after the first two albums, and tbh the Fred era isn’t even a thought anymore after the self titled, and Happiness is. Though I don’t like Tidal Wave at all.

@@mr.anderson6040 I saw them live once in 2014 I think? It was in a gymnasium in a college, very few people were in the crowd. It was magical.

They really do quote the good book when it’s convenient
I loved this song as a highschooler when it came out. after my divorce it tears me apart.
Keep your head up friend, there is light at the end.

LYRICS
[Verse 1]
We found a house with a yard
And moved all of my things in
And most of your things in
And honey I was proud of it
Yeah honey I was proud of you
[Chorus]
You quote the good book
When it's convenient
But you don't have the sense
No you don't have the sense
To tie your tangled tongue
Instead you slash it through the mud
[Verse 2]
And some boxes
And hand-me-down couch and chair
They used to be at your church
We borrowed them from there
A cabinet record player
With nothin' but James Taylor
Tore the carpets from the corners to put in that hardwood floor
I'd be a fool to have asked for more
[Chorus]
You quote the good book
When it's convenient
But you don't have the sense
No you don't have the sense
To tie your tangled tongue
Instead you slash it through the mud
You quote the good book
When it's convenient
But you don't have the sense
No you don't have the sense
To tie your tangled tongue
Instead you slash it through the mud
[Bridge]
The love you had but couldn’t name
The past that we were stuck between
Beside myself I stopped to think
Lord, what have I done?
[Chorus]
You quote the good book
When it's convenient
But you don't have the sense
No you don't have the sense
To tie your tangled tongue
Instead you slash it through the mud
You quote the good book
When it's convenient
But you don't have the sense
No you don't have the sense
To tie your tangled tongue
Instead you slash it through the mud

that Eb5 at the end is insanely impressive. such a painful wail of grief
Listen Before “Better Homes And Gardens”
Yep. Direct link.
i can feel the singer's pain in this D:
Yeah honey I was proud of you
Sometimes this song can be about yourself, at least I feel that way.
A song they will never play live. I believe they still haven’t. 🤔
Gives me chills. Such a great song, but certainly heartbreaking.

@@JeremyChristofer Isn't even a thought for whom? The old shit are their most requested songs live.
