@Christo Fat: actually they are even more ancient Han than most think. The Hakka languange retains much of the sound of the Tang Dynasty language, of which many sino-japanese and sino-korean loanwords were derived from. Many japanese "chinese " words can be easily understand by Hakka speakers, but not by Mandarin speakers. Japanese retained much of the sound of the ancient Tang Dynasty language.
One great example is the name of Japan itself, the Chinese characters or kanji for Japan (日本) are pronounced as follows: nippon (Japanese), rìběn (Mandarin), jat6 bun2 (Cantonese), ngit5 bun3 (Hakka). As you can see, the Hakka ng- sound is the closest to the Japanese n- sound.
@S. Young I've read the journals of Hakka studies in China and the state of research is that Hakka language and identity was formed around Ganzhou, then from there spread to Meizhou area in Guangdong and from there to the south and east. Please point me to scientific research that says otherwise.
@@Livingtree32 So the true origin of the Hakka peoples are from Jiangxi? That is very interesting, I would like to know more! Please share more of your knowledge of Hakka culture with me haha. :D
Hakka are han Chinese too!!!!! They are called hakka ( guest people) because they Han people from the central plain and not from south China, where they live now.. But is very common among mainland Chinese to think that they are non Han Chinese. But what a shame from cctv to make this common mistake.
@@oneviwatara9384 No connection ? How come southern languages are closer to Middle Chinese than Mandarin ? It seems that you know better than historians !

Southern Jiangxi is the origin of Hakka, they only migrated to Fujian and Guangdong from there.

He didn't. He said he was surprised to find rattan in China, since he thought they only grew in Southeast Asia (i.e. not China).

Hakka are Han people.
Hakka is a Han sub group.
What set them apart is the old tradition they kept and they speak an old dialec.
