Totally agree with everything you've stated. Before purchasing my S6, I hung out in the Facebook community and that's ultimately what sold me. What these cameras offer for the price point is just unbelievable.
Totally agree with you. I have always been a Canon guy, and last year I decided to move from my 1DXM2 that was my main for client work and get into a Cinema camera. I of course was gravitating towards the C200 and the day before I was making my purchase I saw a video on the Z Cam, and spent a few weeks reading on it. I decided to buy the F6 and could not be happier with my purchase. Sure there are some things I would have liked to have, but this thing is a beast and the ability I have to rig it how I like it for each shoot is amazing.
I shot my last video on my zcam s6 it was exposed right I used diffuser to block the sun and people keep saying is that the red you filmed that on I just laughed... when you know what your doing you can make just about any camera look good. These days everyone just want the camera to do everything for them and yet still want to be called film makers or cinematographer. Lol. Great viid.
Very very very well said. Please remember that the RED started out as a nobody too. The Zcam I bought is not the Zcam I have today. So many updates that made my camera even better than when I bought it. Good video Josh.
It's a good point that you make about getting hired based on ur talent and skills, not what gear you got and hoping it'll attract clients. That's where a lot of content producers go broke within their first year.
Yep. You know you can rig up a normal ssd external hardrive, from Amazon for like $60 along that cable into a type c. I’ve saved $100’s on those cfast cards. Im probably the only one that does this lol
One thing I can think of is that the Komodo is the cheapest cinema camera with a global shutter, although niche as hell for most individuals and production companies. A global shutter will give you a better image in slow-mo situations, no flickering and any sort of rolling shutter issues you will have, filming helicopters, bicycle spokes, quick pans. That is really appealing and I wish more prosumer options would implement global shutters!
Appreciate the videos and congrats on the major moves! Thinking about the Z Cam E2 S6 only because of the 4K 120 for product work that I do and it won't require a full rig! Just a battery, lens, and monitor. We'll see!
I went from Canon to Sony for film, struggled with getting exactly what I wanted out of the camera and then switched to Z-Cam after researching for a long time. You'll never look back.
I went with the Full Frame E2-F6 over the Komodo and I haven't looked back for a second. As badass as it is to say you own a RED, the Z CAM's are so versatile, with a beautiful color science and at an amazing range of pricing. I highly preach for Z CAM, I can careless if I sound like a fan boy haha.
It does looks like a pretty interesting camera, but $2k for 16bit, r3d and the support of a super established company is worth it in my opinion. The brand does make clients feel safer most of the time and if you’re building a production company that will grow then it makes sense to go with a bigger camera manufacturer. I agree with you that is a great camera but probably is aimed to different users compared to RED.
I heard on another channel that there is no discernible difference to the human eye between 422 and 4444, love to see a side by side from the venice to the one of there 422 consumer cams, would have to be Vimeo probably or on file probably.
My Arri Alexa does ProRes 422 and 4444 and there is huge difference when you have to grade. The power in Alexa is the sensor that is a true 16 but color dual gain architecture
I got an S6 recently, still testing out. It's all good so far. I'm basically coming from an A6300. I'm regretting a bit simply because of the whole brand recognition thing 😨

RED's raw is 16 bit linear. The 12 bit raw flavors (BRAW, ZRAW, Pro Res Raw, etc.) are log--which makes them basically the same thing. (If not basically then much much closer than they sound.) Atomos talks about it w/r/t to Sony's 16 bit raw out and Pro Res Raw being 12 bit. All that is to say, I think you got nothing to worry about
Hello Joshua! I will be working sound on a shoot where they will have a E2 S6 as the A-camera, and I am needing to know which adapter I need to purchase to allow timecode input? None of the dealers seem to be 100% sure, unfortunately.
@@joshuamartinstudios Thank you, I have many Tentacles, and TC slate, but what adapter to use to connect into the E2 S6? In before the Komodo fanboys flood the comments. This whole fanboy culture is getting obnoxious so I'm hoping we get away from that but I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. But for real, I'm glad that you're going all in with the Z Cam. It's underrated and joked on a lot but it's hanging with the big boys.

Upgraded to the s6 from the GH5S, I brought the M4 at first, wasn't happy with the MFT look. Super 35mm style is very pleasing to the eye.
